I get crap fro all my movie critic and intellectual friends for saying this, but I really enjoyed the first National Treasure. I’m sure I’ll even get some flack in the comments for saying so. It was a fun, sit back, relax, much on some popcorn, sip on some soda, no need to think, type of movie. And sure, the concept was completely stolen from Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code novels, but who really cares? To be honest, National Treasure was a far more entertaining movie than Ron Howard’s adaptation of the Code. I also must admit that the first trailer for Disney’s sequel National Treasure: Book of Secrets worried me. It looked bad, but not in a good way. Thankfully, the second full length trailer which hit the interwebs tonight is a much better cut. My only complaint right now is that, much like a lot of trailers, it probably shows too much. You can check out this new trailer below.
Watch the trailer in High Definition on Yahoo! Movies. National Treasure: Book of Secrets hits theaters on December 21st 2007.

Why should you get flack for saying you liked the movie? It’s your opinion. don’t waver and be like all your intellectual friends, this is what makes you different ……

yea forget what they have to say, I liked that movie too lol It was entertainment. It served its intended purpose. Maybe you should remind them why they started watching movies to begin with. To be entertained.

Yeah, I liked the movie as well. In fact it is one of the better action/adventure movies in recent memory.

And that proves the point again why most people hate pretentious critics (like you) who cannot enjoy an entertaining movie or - better yet - cannot admit that they like a movie if it is not intellectual.
NT1 will probably still be a good movie and entertaining to watch 20 years from now while all that other intellectual crap will be forgotten (hopefully).

Reader: how am I a pretentious critic? I just glowly professed my love for the first film? My top 10 list for last year also included 3 comedies and Superman Returns, which was also not a critic (or fan) pick

Btw, the National Treasure story idea was conceived well before The Da Vinci code ever came out.
Ended up being a more entertaining movie anyway…

Cool! I actually liked the first trailer, and that one was good, too. I’ll probably see this, even though I haven’t seen the first, as this trailer impresses me a lot more than the ones for the first movie.

I loved this movie. Have watched it at least 3 or 4 times on DVD also. Besides it my girlfriend and I’s first date that we went to see it. Three years and we are still going strong. Can’t wait to see NT2.
