William Shatner

A bunch of big name websites reported earlier this week that William Shatner will (at least) have a cameo in the upcoming JJ Abrams Star Trek movie. We haven’t believed Shatner’s story from the very beginning (heck, we love the guy, but he’s not a very god actor). But Shatner strikes back yet again with another video interview, again denying the recent rumor reports. He claims that the reason he isn’t being brought back is because his character is dead. But even Shatner understands in the world of Science Fiction, if dinosaurs can be brought back to life, than so can Kirk. The funniest part has to be Shatner saying “I don’t do cameos!”

I have no inside info on this one, one way or the other. But my money is on a Shatner appearance in JJ Abrams Star Trek. Check out the video after the jump, and tell me what you think: Will Shatner return?

Bill seems upset about not appearing in the movie. He should write his own science fiction movie and cast himself as every character in the film just to show he's still important.
  • My girlfriend suggested perhaps it's a narrative being told by Old Kirk, before he got killed in Generations. I thought that'd be awesome.

I'll admit Shatner can be a ham, but if you have any doubts about his acting, check out his Emmy and Golden Globe Award winning performance on "Boston Legal." Believe it or not, he CAN act.
  • William Shatner is good at playing himself, and he does that well in Boston Legal.

i think it's there just to get people to be surprised when he shows up in the latest. he does do cameos-- he's in fanboys as a cameo, even.

I have been thinking about this a lot, and am a huge TOS fan. I can see the movie starting off with Spock, going back in time with him for whatever reason, reaching it's climax and Spock goes over to a unconscious Kirk and touches his face (he doesn't have to do the "remember" thing hopefully, we get the point). After the climax Spock returns to his own time only to have Kirk there too since the mind meld told him to kill Soren, or change the timeline in some way to allow Kirk to live without really changing anything. It's the kind of friendship that he, Kirk, and McCoy had. You risk anything for your friends, even your morality about changing time.
  • He won't do cameos but he'll do crappy priceline commercials and game shows like "Show Me the Money". He probably wasn't even asked to be in the new movie.
  • I think if William Shatner does not want a cameo that is OK. But, I do wish he would have some creative input to help out young JJ. Shatner is a big part of the Star Trek universe and in fact all the remaining actors should have some input.

  • I think William Shatner is a very good actor, and it is such a shame that that twat jj abrams has not asked Shatner to be involded with this movie. It could take place before 'Star Trek Generations', hello abrams, ever think of that without screwing up with continuity?!

I have to also say that 'Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country' was and is a nice ending to 'Star Trek' - The Original Series cast, and 'Star Trek Generations' is a nice ending for Kirk and nice begining for 'Star Trek - The Next Generation' Movies. So I actually am not looking forward to this movie anyway, with different actors in the iconinc Star Trek original series actors, no thanks. Don't mess with the perfect ending to 'Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country', ohh woops, too late, seems they are going on with this dumb idea of a movie.

The plot is not original to this new movie anyway, and remakes are so stupid anyway. Doctor Who got remade as of 2005, and that turned into a glorified shit, James Bond and Batman bothe got remade as well, looks like people can not make original things anymore. Battlestar Galactica also got remade. I would like to see 'Star Trek - The Next Generation' have one or two final good movies. 'Star Trek Generations', 'Star Trek First Contact' 'Star Trek Insurrection' are all great, but 'Star Trek Nemesis' was not a good ending, I ejoyed it, but they needed a better final film. The Original series got one more movie after 'Star Trek V - The Final Frontier', I think TNG deserves one or two more movies, probably two so they have enough to have a better ending. After all, TNG made and continued the success of Star Trek.
  • Glad Shatner does not want to do a cameo, because it is most likely this remake / movie will be shit! Shatner is smart in not doing this
  • The dude
Not a fan or anything, but saying that he doesn't do cameos is just weird. Just thinking about it quite a few titles pops up, where he was just a cameo..
Like Oldschool, Showtime and several of series...
Also if you check out imdb, the first title reads:

    # Horrorween (2008) (filming) .... Cameo
... aka Horrorween 3D (International: English title: copyright title)
  • Sorry for all of you who disagree but Shatner was and is Star Trek. No one will ever be able to replace him as Capt. James T. Kirk
