Justice League: Who Will Be Cast as Wonder Woman?

Who Will Be Cast as Wonder Woman?

Casting is in full effect on the Justice League movie, and while no names are yet attached, we are getting a better idea of the actors who are trying out for the roles. And everyone seems to want to know what actress will be playing Wonder Woman. Let’s take a look at the new hopefuls:

Australian actress Victoria Hill (December Boys) supposedly did a screen test audition in September.

MTV reports that 26-year-old singer/actrsss Christina Milian wants the role. Although, I’m sure her ethnicity might prevent her from winning the role of the Amazon. Wonder Woman is also known for her curvaceous long legs. The modern day character is 6′3″ while the older version was much shorter (5′11″ was “amazonian” height for a woman in the 1960’s). Millian stands at a very short 5′ 2”.

Cinematical has learned that Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight’s Tale, One Missed Call) has auditioned for the role, after blowing away the Mulroneys in a Princess Di casting session. Sossamon is 29-years old and 5′ 9”, a little closer in height, but still much shorter than the traditional character.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Final Destination 3, Live Free or Die Hard) and Teresa Palmer (December Boys) both auditioned for Miller earlier this week during the marathon casting sessions in Hollywood. Age 21 years of age, Palmer is the youngest of the bunch. Her publicity materials list her as 5′ 5¾”. Winstead stands 5′ 8” and is also young (22 years old).

The Past: Both Jessica Biel and Katie Holmes have been rumored, but are no longer in contention for the role.

Apparently they are looking for an actress aged 21-29, and anywhere from 5′ 2” to 5′ 9” in height. So chances are that we’ll be getting a younger/shorter Wonder Woman. So who would you cast as Wonder Woman?

I am all for Mary Elizabeth Winstead

she has the look (and what a great one it is) and i think can pull of the acting...

Shannyn Sossamon and Christina Milian are in no way good for the part
  • some_dude
why is no one looking to Kate Beckinsale for this role ... I think she would be perfect. I know she is not tall enough or voluptuous enough but I think both of those things can be made to look "right" in the movie.

As far as height goes though I think they can make anyone look tall enough so it should really come down to who physically looks the part.
  • Deb
Mostly too young and too short. WW should be a minimum of 25, this ain't teen titans. She also has to be a minimum of 5'9. Heels will add another 2", bringing her up to 5'11, and that is the very shortest any WW can get away with. Ideally she would be around 6'.

Even without Bale or Routh, their replacements will be around the same size. It is the nature of Batman and Superman. Welling, Reynolds, Bale and Routh are well above 6'. It won't look right if all the JL men are towering over WW.
  • dus
How about the lady that plays the bionic woman on nbc. I know it is going from one super hero to another, but she has the build and look for it. No?
  • I'm still bummed about the WW movie w/ Whedon being nixed.

I had my hopes up for a Morena Baccarin WW.
  • SUPER AMANDA!

Myself because I have the height and the large breasts, small waist and hips plus I'm Italian close enough to Greece.

All these other hopefuls are too small breasted and too short.

In all honesty no one can compete with Lynda Carter. Lyda had the best body in the history of Hollywood alongside Raquel Welch

You also don't know your Hollywood ethnic history Peter, Lynda Carter is half Mexican.

You teen pop culture bloggers don't really know your history do you?
  • Daslid
My vote is for Olivia Munn!!!!!!!
  • BTW: You can't fake an hourglass figure on a bunch of female sticks like the above bloggers are naming as their choices. Kate? Mary?

    Oh GOD!!

Take it from a natural DD, 5'10 Amazon none of you know what Wonder Woman's physique is about.
  • sexy_amazon
carrie-ann moss, retards. she's hot, kicks lots of ass, is tall/young enuf, also, she kicks ass. enuf said.
  • barbapapa
Xena Warrior princess (Lucy Lawless) is a perfect match to an Alex Ross style wonder woman! I wonder why no on has noticed that yet?
  • michelle
I agree Lawless would be perfect, she has the look.
  • Ditto Olivia Munn.

    She's got geek cred.
  • some_dude
Hugh Jack is a solid foot taller than the comic Wolverine so I really doubt that people would have a hard time with a somewhat shorter WW.

... wow you really think Lucy Lawless has the sex appeal for a WW? ... no way
  • travis
  • carrie ann moss is beautiful but virtually flat chested and square torsoed.

WONDER WOMAN HAS A WAIST TO HIP RATIO not a washboard square.

Lucy Lawless would be amazing but Hollywood most likely has her tagged with XENA which is a shame. Also out of the Xena suit she's not that busty. wonder Woman has to be buxom.
  • Olivia Munn is really pretty and talented but she has the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of wonder Woman's figure! she must be 32A-30-32

Her attempts at becoming the part have been a joke at best you might as well cast the Olsen twins.
  • Um, I was told Jessica Biel accepted the role from an inside source. But I guess something must've come up if they're still open.
  • donnie
i was thinking more along the lines of jessica simpson
  • Jessica Biel is far too small breasted and thin to ever play Wonder Woman. No trainer can give her what nature didnt.

McPhee is better but not powerful enough, she's Wonder Girl.
  • Sharon du Coudray
I think Charlize Theron would be great for Wonder Woman, if she would be interested in it.
  • Sharon du Coudray
I like Charlize Theron for the role.

She is tall, strong and a fabulous actress.
  • Steve W
I'd like to see Sarah Lancaster in the WW suit. I think she's right physically and she's 5'8" so not too short.
  • cleber.fernandes
looks ww all the way man!
  • Jessica Simpson
  • Andrew
    Charisma Carpenter or Rachel Weisz
  • I think that Charlize Theron or Naomi Watts would be good.
    Maybe Jordana Brewster??
  • jim
God, if only one wish....can you have Kate Beckinsale as Wonder Woman..and thanx
  • what about buffy?
  • Jamar
Scarlett Johanson would make a good wonder woman
  • NotAWWFan
Paget Brewster? She's tall and totally looks like Wonder Woman. Check her IMDB page!
  • Cawdor
    2 words

    Julie Strain

    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001781/

Standing at 6'1'' (6' 3') with heels she fits the part. Age is the only strike against her.
  • cleber.fernandes
    perfect!!!!
  • James
    Jaime Murray?

Her wiki said she was invited for auditions for the role based on how good she looked in the costume.
  • Jaime Murray is a good pick...
for some reason I think Minka Kelly would be good...but she doesn't really have the figure for it...
Sarah Lancaster is a nice choice...

    however :
    Nigella Lawson...
  • Wilbur
Lokelani McMichael would be my choice.
  • Jabadaw
Eliza Dushku would have my vote hands down... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0MtFIXfzco
  • Crissy74
TYRA BANKS. Height, legs for days, ample chest - and the kindest face since Lynda Carter.
  • bob
    "TYRA BANKS"

Except Wonder Woman was white. lulz
  • Jaimie Alexander from Kyle XY 5'9". 'Nuf said.

    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1526352/
  • I can't imagine someone that do not agree Jennifer Connelly was born to be cast Wonder Woman.
  • sparrowhawkes
    Rosario Dawson
  • Deirdre
If it has to be someone from Hollywood then the only actresses worthy and worthwhile are Charlize Theron and Morena Baccarin. Every other suggestion made has been terrible -- and thank God it won't be Jessica Biel (yuck). Best option would be an uber-talented UNKNOWN. Someone reminiscent of Lynda Carter but still their own person (just like Brandon Routh is remiscent of Christopher Reeve but still his own person).

But the whole idea of a Justice League film, especially one being "fast tracked" and featuring the talentless twits of so-called "Young Hollywood", is horrendous. We're likely going to see a superhero version of Ocean's 11 -- zzzzzzzzzz.

Wonder Woman needs to be played by someone with a brain and LOTS of charisma. She is a born leader and fearsome warrior (read the comic book!). Hopefully, a stand-alone Wonder Woman film, preferably modelled on George Perez's late-1980s reboot of the comic, will eventually happen (if done by a visionary director it could be a success!) and not be a spin-off from JL. But I won't hold my breath...
  • The Jack
The casting people are idiots if they go with a short actress. If they cannot find a hot 6'3" or better actress they should find another job because they do not understand the character.
  • Andrew
    Sarah Michelle Gellar.

This is no better person to play a super hero.
  • HappyEvilDude
I have said it before and shall say it again: Mandy Moore as Wonder Woman (she's tall, has name-recognition, the movie will serve to expand her role diversity, she will bring to the movie an audience which wouldn't have initially gone to see it).

They could also audition Joss Stone (not an actress, but she's tall, has a fondness for accents, so why not try her out? she too would bring in a whole new audience).

And though it sucks they're not getting Bale & Routh how about this:

-I'm still hoping for David Boreanaz as Batman (it'd be good he'd be a bit older).
-Tom Welling as Superman (do you really want three actors playing Superman at the SAME time?)
-Justin Hartley as Aquaman (hey he already did it once)
-Chad Michael Murray as The Flash
-Gaius Charles as The Green Lantern
-the voice of James Earl Jones as The Martian Manhunter
  • darkfenix
If it was't for the criteria mentioned above, that being mostly the age thing, I would have thought something along the line of Jeri Ryan or Lucy lawless. Both have amazinc physiques for this role, as well as who wouldnt ant to see them as Wonder Woman. Heck, one played almost as big an amazon for 8 seaons on a little show name Xena
  • The Jack
    .
You are all missing the point. All of the women mentioned are woefully inadequate.
    .
Anybody can act with a few lessons. The important thing is that they look like the role.
    .
Personally, I would inquire with the Russian Women's Olympic Volleyball team to see if any are interested.
    http://www.fivb.org/visasp/ShowImage.aspx?No=20...
    .
The way you all talk it sounds like a short skinny weaselly dude who swaggers around because he has a gang to back him up would be a good fit for Superman.
    .
  • Crissy74
I have to agree with "The Jack"..unless they keep to the true vision of what Wonder Woman is and what she stands for, all will be lost...
  • jazz
    how about estella warren?
  • estella warren?
    jebus...are you kidding?...

there are tow things that MUST be present in the actor playing Wonder Woman
    1) she has to look the part
it's not enough to cast some hot chick with name recognition (alba, biel etc), wonder woman has a physicality that, like it or not, is part of what defines her character...if one of the Olsen twins was the finest actor of her generation, a true chameleon, able to inhabit any role...she still wouldn't be right for wonder woman.
    2) a good actor
the currrent wonder woman is a leader, a warrior...not an OC bit player.

I have great hopes for this film...but just hope...no good expectations at all...
