The JokerI’m getting more and more excited for The Dark Knight everyday, and with Oscar winner Michael Caine making such huge claims, Heath Ledger may have huge expectations to fill.

“I tell you the big surprise in the new ‘Batman’ — Heath Ledger as the Joker,” Caine told reporters in New York Tuesday. “He’s fantastic. He’s gone in a different direction than Jack (Nicholson) … Jack was like a really scary old, nasty old uncle with a funny face. Heath is like the most murderous psychopath you’ve ever seen on the screen,” Caine said.

“I was waiting for Batman’s guests, but (the Joker) had taken over the elevator with — he has seven dwarfs and… oh! wait until you see them. So, I’d never seen any of it and the elevator door opened and they came out and I forgot every bloody line. They frightened the bloody life out of me …. It’s amazing and it’s so different from Jack.”

Can Not Wait…

I think… i think i need to change my pants. I join your enthusiasm for the movie. Here’s hoping it doesn’t take too long to be available down here in NZ.

Oh my god I have a feeling that The Dark Knight will be the most glorious and dark Batman movie ever made. I. Can. Not. Wait. Either.

  3. Gravatar

I also think this will be a great movie, maybe even more than great! I was very pleasantly surprised by Batman Begins (Bale is the best batman EVER), but the second one, oh boy, it gives me the creeps!

Sounds again and again like a franchise I will actually go and watch at the theatre instead of downloading. I am kinda fed op with movies that do not take into account that I like *grew up*.

Only movies I a priori go to these days are Ridley Scott movies. I grew up on Alien and Blade Runner and will forever more compare what I see with those movies. I thought it used to be about the superficiality of CGI use these days but that wasn’t it.

In a movie I appreciate good CGI that supports the story, like in minority report. But NOT CGI that patches a story, like the last Star Wars trilogies. I weht to see them but felt used. I didn’t go to King Kong for comparison but did bother to download it. But I still miss the old miniature feel, such as the wonderful creations of Martin Bower…

    *sighs*

ugggggg why do we have to wait until next year?? give me this movie now

  6. Gravatar

As much as I want to see this movie also, I don’t want them to rush through it and release something that ends up crappy! Take your time, please! The throngs of people will be standing outside every theater in America if they know it’s worth the wait!

  7. Gravatar

oh yes, it’ll be worth the wait. I’m just so excited!

  8. Gravatar

No kidding, this movie looks awesome. What was amazing was how the first one survived all the hype, hopefully the second can as well (and it appears it could) although I still have reservations of Ledger’s Joker as he sounds like a whiny Edward G Robinson (yknow the guy from the old “40’s gangster movies) in the teaser.
Hopefully Im wrong as it looks like a really good flick.

Not only did I watch them shoot all summer long in Chicago (and snagged an extra gig for two days) but I got in to the WizardWorld Chicago panel and all of the panel members, especially Gary Oldman (a man who knows something about imersing ones self in a role) said the same thing about Ledger’s performance.
    Can.Not.Wait.

  10. Gravatar

Please, don’t even let Joel Schumacher into the theatre while it’s showing.

once and for all no more batman films by people who only know the campy 60,s version ,IE who ever made the last two movies back in the ninties. to who evers making this movies now please stop trying to update Batman the guys been around longer than you’ve been alive .hes stood the test of time just make the film the way it appears in the comic. no one cares how you think the joker should look just make the movie and keep your opions and revisions to yourself if it aint broke don’t fix it.

Personally I was revitalized, enjoying “Batman Begins” more then I had expected. I have high hopes with the positive historic momentum now setting the pace entering into this new film.

  13. Gravatar

I personally think that from what I’ve seen and heard so far, Heath Ledger is going to make an amazing Joker. Definitely psychotic. I thought that Batman Begins was incredible just with Christian Bale portraying Batman, but I have high hopes for this second installment. I guarantee you I will be there to see this movie the day it opens.

  14. Gravatar

Holy macaroni Batman! I Can Not Wait either. I feel like I need a fix. Will definately be hitting the Imax theatre to see the seven minute clip of The Dark Knight in the I Am Legend movie. I think TDK is going to be one of those incredible movie experiences that goes down in history as an instant classic. Excited to see this new version of the Joker. Batman Begins was better than the Burton’s movies portrayal of Batman- wayyyyy ….and I think the Joker will finally be the disturbing sociopath he was meant to be in this new movie.

  15. Gravatar

i was surprised to hear heath ledger was playing the joker…i was hoping for christian slater personally…how about you…

  16. Gravatar

I think everyone was surprised at the choice of Heath Ledger….but I think it will turn out to be a pleasant surprise. Christian Slater has the face, and his performance in “Heathers” hints towards maybe a character fit, but I don’t think he has the acting chops for it.

this movie is gonna suck hella bad.jack did the best joker hands down.this idot legder sucks couldnt act to save his life and what ya know he is dead now.anyway with all the bad guys out there that batman could whoop on they shouldnt leave the classics alone dont screw with the joker.

oi ‘The Joker’. you are fucking retard. how you could ever mock someone like this just shows how much of a fucking coward you are you worthless peace of shit. what have you ever accomplished in your life mate. how about you tell us what you do and whether or not you make a fucking bit of difference in the world. heath ledger touched the hearts of so many people but all you saw was the negatives of a bloke who hated people like you. judgmental fuckwits of society who have no idea what they are talking about and just say things to sound important when deep down, they know they are not.

    RIP Heath!!!!!!!

now now there. Everyone just needs to settle the f— down. Now it is truly sad that Heath Ledger had passed away, a talented actor who actually seemed to give a damn about the art of acting, rare in a teen heartthrob I would say. As for “not screwing with the Joker”, it needs to be done. I loved Jack Nickolsan’s performance, who couldn’t. But this is a new franchise, a different franchise. There is clearly a darker more sinister tone being attempted in the telling of the story of Batman. Its a character that has been rewritten by hundreds of people over the last 50 years or so, why not another interpretation. I mean they can’t make up a new arch-nemesis for Batman. I think one of the most tragic things is that I heard Ledger had signed on for 7 films in the saga, being a reoccurring character….. hmmm now they’ll need someone else maybe I should audition.

Hey “The Joker”, or should i say “the ass clown”, what did Heath Ledger do to piss you off? Are you upset that you didn’t get casted as Jake Gyllenhaal’s role in Brokeback? Quit crying. Jack WAS a great joker, certainly better than Cesar Romero, (he was the tv series joker, which you probably didn’t even know). The fact is wasn’t just better, he was different. Just as Heath Ledger will most likely be in The Dark Knight. He will bring a different skill set to the table. It’s easy to criticize someone while sitting on a couch, believe me I know. But it’s cowardly to criticize someone who has recently passed. Why didn’t you voice your opinion in October like the rest of the movie fanatics? I suppose it’s just easier to criticize when someone he isn’t in your face. I’ll tell you what, the next time you find the need to criticize the recently deceased, do everyone a favor and keep it to yourself.

  23. Gravatar

By the way “the Joker”, who uses the word hella? Sorry boss but you are a complete tool. I don’t think I’ve heard hella since an episode of South Park about five years ago. You don’t even know how to properly space the end of a sentence. I don’t even know why I’m wasting my time with this. You just really know how to get under someone’s skin. Who cares anyway, you are probably just some pathetic half-wit, who lives in his parents basement, jerking off to your Laura Croft Tomb Raider “action figure”. Am I close, or am I right? Nah it’s probably a Boba Fett doll.

  24. Gravatar

It is horrible that Heath died, he is a great actor. And I am certain this movie will make him a legacy.
    R.I.P. Heath Ledger

  25. Gravatar

I think this movie looks bloody amazing.. i’ve never like scary movies but i will be paying too see this movie.. I’m from Australia and i personally know Heath and i also know that he wouldn’t want anything or anyone to stand in the way of this movie.. it will make billions and i think it will do better than Brokeback Mountain.. This will be Heaths final and BEST movie yet to come.. And anyone that thinks different.. time will prove you wrong..

  26. Gravatar

can u believe that they are thinking about not using heath ledger in this movie after his pasing…R.I.P…but i’ll be pissed if they dont use him not coz im Australian like him, but he put so much effort into that role and it made him use the sleeping pills tha killed him.
he spent a month locked in a hotel room to ge the joker’s voice, posture and aditude right… if they dont use Ledger than he wasted a month of his life for a movie that killed him and now they might not use him

  27. Gravatar

Don’t worry Jason.. If they do not use Heath in the movie advertising. it will be boycotted by most Australians.. His family included.. Heath made a promise when he singed the contract to make the movie, that being that he would be there until the end.. So those ppl that are saying that Heath’s image on popsters would be terryfing to the public i suggest you take these match stick in my hand and prop open your eyes BECAUSE this is HEATH’S movie not Christian Bale.. Let the man live through his movies and let him to continue to blow us all away like he has done for almost 29 years..

  28. Gravatar

‘You’ve changed things’ ‘Forever’ ‘There’s no going back’ ‘See to them your just a freak’ ‘Like me’ This will be one hell of a film, and I think all those people out there making there ignorent statements will wish they had not. Thanks Heath for giving us a new vision of The Joker.

when I saw batman begins, I was blown away but the part that really got me was when batman got the joker card from Gordon. once I saw that I was like yessss the joker is back! When I found out the people that were interrested in playing that role I was like whoa these are some good actors and they can make an amazing joker. I went traveling out of the coutry for a bit and when I came back they were like Heath Ledger is going to be the joker and at first i was like huh? but then when I heard that he spent one month in a hotel room, I was amazed so I went to the movies to go see I am legend and then the batman trailer came on. once I saw it I was amazed with what I saw. Heath shows us the more killing crazy joker that he is like in the comics. that laugh was pure evil and it made my 9 year nephew cry he still has nightmares to this very day. that stuff gave me chills. I can’t wait till it comes out. Heath you did an amazing job and you will never be forgotten. R.I.P
