You’ve heard us talk about Wes Anderson’s 13 minute short film Hotel Chevalier which stars Natalie Portman (in the buff, kinda) and Jason Schwartzman. And now you can watch it exclusively on Apple iTunes. Fret not, it’s completely free - just click this link, download and consume.
Hotel Chevalier is set in a hotel room in France and is a “brief coda to a doomed romance and the prologue to The Darjeeling Limited.” I read in an interview that Portman didn’t want to smoke in the short (which was part of the script) so they replaced the cigarette with a toothpick.
A few screen captures after the jump, including the much talked about “money shot”.
Update: The movie is now available on Google Video, check it out after the jump.

Thank you!
I’ve been looking for this all day but iTunes really hasn’t done much to promote it or make it all that easy to find–unless it just went up recently.
September 26th, 2007 at 4:24 pm
Well, I think the better shot is the extended close-up of her ass.
September 26th, 2007 at 4:27 pm
To be honest…I’m almost more interested in exploring the relationship between these two characters than the Darjeeling Limited. I think they seem really interesting…and i hope that Darjeeling goes into them somewhat…or that Anderson makes either another short or even a feature film maybe.
September 26th, 2007 at 5:40 pm
Thanks Peter! Thanks Apple and (*gulp*) Fox, they can get me using iTunes store with great deals like this: Free and somewhat high quality.
September 26th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
Man! All I want to do is see Hotel Chevalier but because I am not an American Citizen I cannot download it from iTunes. Can someone please download it and post a torrent. Globalization my ass!

I can’t get my iTunes account working either, though I’ve given it a valid credit card. Quite astonishing really that the first time I attempt to actually use the iTunes store it’s to view a free video and I can’t get it because it thinks I have an invalid credit card address!
I turned off that crappy youtube copy. Can someone please put the full quality version online somewhere!? Come on, it was free to begin with and it’s not a big file!
September 27th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
hey im from canada and itunes wont let me download it
what can i do to watch it???
September 28th, 2007 at 1:05 am
well thank you for the head’s up…
September 29th, 2007 at 11:23 am
I can`t tell which is cooler, the fact that I can`t download it from itunes, or the embedded google video not playing …
September 30th, 2007 at 8:34 am
anyone know when we people outside the US will be able to watch this?
September 30th, 2007 at 10:11 am
found a good stream. better than the google video one
http://www.mefeedia.com/entry/3631897/
September 30th, 2007 at 12:26 pm
WTF! Why can’t someone just upload the original 149mb file?! The mefeedia link from the last comment is just the flash version of a blip.tv file. After about 3 whole seconds of searching I found that the user who uploaded this to blip.tv uploaded three different copies which in total add up to more than 149mb! They even cropped and resized the video! Why would someone copy a video like this?! Was the wide aspect too much for a small brain to deal with?
So, bugger it. I give up on the internets and the multitude of idiots who now reside there!
September 30th, 2007 at 12:31 pm
Holy crap! It’s cropped so tight that it even cuts off the closing credits!
September 30th, 2007 at 12:35 pm
OK. I’ve found the original now. I’ll upload it to a few places and post a link here, so we can all rest. Well, I can anyway.
September 30th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
“Fret not, it’s completely free”
Thankfully someone upped it to other services, but tell me, how is giving a corporation your credit card details, and thus identity, “free”?
:)
October 1st, 2007 at 12:16 am
Sorry, all the high quality copies I can find are protected by iTunes DRM. How’s that for free! I’ve been quite unsuccessful in finding an app for ripping something like this, so, I don’t know. I’m uploading it anyway so that people can at least get it and maybe someone else out there knows a trick. Link soon…
October 1st, 2007 at 2:33 pm
There is several apps to remove the drm from the original file if you own the file.
So anyone who’s downloaded this from iTunes could remove the drm and then put the drm-free file up for download.
October 1st, 2007 at 2:39 pm
i’ve downloaded the movie and wouldn’t mind uploading it. i haven’t been able to crack the drm though. tried tunebites but wasn’t successful. any other tools you could recommend?
October 1st, 2007 at 2:56 pm
Try qtfairuse
More tools: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FairPlay
October 1st, 2007 at 5:01 pm
I did upload it and I posted a comment here with a link but comments with links are screened and it didn’t go up. hmmm. Either way, I haven’t found any apps that remove the DRM from iTunes video files, only audio files. All of the DRM removal apps on that wikipedia page including qtfairuse only work with audio, not video.

I found it in WMV format without DRM.
October 1st, 2007 at 6:19 pm
Though the WMV doesn’t appear to be very degraded and doesn’t have any noticeable DRM, I don’t think it’s the full quality version. It’s actually smaller than the ripped versions already online such as the ones on blip.tv.
Oh well, continue waiting…….
October 1st, 2007 at 6:21 pm
Actually, upon further inspection it does look degraded!
October 4th, 2007 at 1:30 pm
That was the biggest load of crap I’ve ever seen in my life. I scratch my head at the point of of it. Pondering why I wasted 13 minutes of my life for nothing. Even though I love Natalie, this movie was a giant waste of her talents. If nudity was the point, it failed because even that was poorly done. I’ve seen more skin on daytime TV. I’m just glad I didn’t pay to see it.
October 4th, 2007 at 1:35 pm
Wow Eddie von Vondrecht! Never seen a Wes Anderson film before?
October 6th, 2007 at 4:00 am
well, he digs his yellows! I like Wes’ movies, but they’re all variations on similar characters (educated, privileged, self-loathing, neurotic) and similar themes (able to afford going to exotic places to freak out and/or be miserable, or work it out). Fantastical elitism!
I wonder if he’d ever do a ghetto fairytale and call it Get Poor and Die Broke. Have a character imagine that his/her life is ‘Forbidden Planet’.
October 9th, 2007 at 9:24 am
Hi:
Someone please post me high quality copy of the short. As many others I’m not an american citizen and it seems that our credit cards are not worth it for Itunes. Hope someone could send it. Thanks!
October 10th, 2007 at 12:01 am
How does the story start?? Can someone put the first 3 or 4 minutes of this short film pls?? the links provided only show the last 10 mins, i guess due to time constrain. Thanx!!!
October 10th, 2007 at 12:15 am
Amira, the film only goes for 12:59. It’s a short film. That’s all of it. Although, as the article says the film is a “brief coda to a doomed romance and the prologue to The Darjeeling Limited.” so in a way the missing part is The Darjeeling Limited.
October 10th, 2007 at 12:35 am
but there’s a phone scene too. i saw a little bit on the short film’s trailer.
October 10th, 2007 at 12:40 am
Which phone scene is that? The phone scene that starts at about 12 seconds or the one that starts at 37 seconds? They’re both in the google video version at the top of this post and that’s the same as the cinema version apparently.
October 10th, 2007 at 12:48 am
um… google link isn’t working, it keeps saying not available… and it happens to alll vids related to hotel chevalier…hmm
October 10th, 2007 at 12:52 am

October 10th, 2007 at 12:58 am
I’m uploading the WMV version somewhere for you now. I’ll let you know once I have a link.

It’s already there. Refresh the page and it should be 4 comments above this one.
October 10th, 2007 at 2:22 am

October 23rd, 2007 at 10:54 am
Why can’t I download this from itunes? I keep getting a message that says it is no longer available?!?!
October 25th, 2007 at 11:10 pm
i just saw the darjeeling limited in theaters last weekend. was excited to watch hotel chevalier online. now none of the links work because apparently it’s going to accompany the film going forward! but i paid in theaters and didn’t get to see it. so unfair! missed it on the big screen AND online. is this online anywhere at all anymore?
November 3rd, 2007 at 3:34 pm
I missed it at the theatres too, when I saw it there, it said “please watch hotel chevalier at hotechevalier.com.” well, i guess that was two weeks ago, but here I am now trying to find the video online and its not available. Jerks.
November 9th, 2007 at 12:16 am
I agree jacinta….I loved Darjeeling…but dont like being manipulated…I give up.
February 16th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
