HalloweenA workprint of Rob Zombie’s Halloween has been leaked onto the internet. The  copy turned up on several bit torrent websites just four days before the film’s theatrical movie premiere on Friday.

Hopefully Halloween won’t suffer the same fate as Eli Roth’s Hostel: Part II which had an unfinished work-print leak online a week before its theatrical release. In the case of Hostel, a week was all that was needed to convince the online horror community not to spend their cash at the box office. On the other hand, an early leak of Michael Moore’s Sicko lead to strong word of mouth, which many people speculate, may have ended up helping the film’s box office (however there is no way to prove anything either way). Disney/Pixar’s Ratatouille also ended up on the torrent sites a week before the film’s theatrical release after a nationwide sneak preview screening. Most people agree that this leak didn’t hurt the film due to its targeted family demographic. Movie Piracy seems to be most effective against the box office in films which target a teen demographic.
It’s also interesting to note that both Sicko and Halloween have ties to The Weinsteins, while Sicko and Hostel 2 have ties to Lionsgate. It’ll be interesting to find out exactly where these work-prints were leaked, but I have a feeling that they might all be connected. Again, I have no proof, but I’m guessing there is a leak somewhere in the chain of post production of all three of these films.

Absolutely dreadful, the pacing for the film in this workprint was just atrocious. I really hope Rob fixed a lot of the mistakes in the workprint.

Yeah this version was not good at all. I’d give it between one, and one and a half stars. Things just did not fit or work in this movie. Zombie clearly wanted to do a LOT of things, but … what a disappointment. So many annoying characters, and when Michael FINALLY gets around to stalking Laurie… he does it in plain sight in front of everyone in plain daylight. That alone lost a bunch of the suspence the film could have had, but instead we were subject to boring and painful dialog, until Michael decided to just randomly attack individuals that really had nothing to do at all with the storyline (aka the trucker in the bathroom), yeah he probably killed him for the truck… but the station the truck was at had about 7 other people, none of whom were shown dead or dying. Not only that but Zombie completely avoided even showing Michael leave the scene… he just shows up, stabs a guy, and scene. What?! At least the first hour or so was somewhat tollerable. However, the strongest character in the movie is clearly Michael’s mother. Everyone else can’t get slaughtered soon enough. The only other interesting thing I enjoyed was Zombies course of action (SPOILER coming up) when deciding to actually let one of the babysitters, other than Laurie, actually survive. That did get some extra points for me, because it was actually pretty unexpected. Alright thats enough from me. Hopefully the actual theatrical version will end up being a lot better than what I just got done watching, because if not, we all better be ready for a HUGE dropoff in sales in the days after its initial release.

Doesn’t matter how many takes they do with this one..
He totally screwed with a great story.
I think that is why Carpenter allowed him to do this one, it makes the original look all that much better!!!

truth be told im not surprised rob zombie may be a huge horror film fan but if anybody saw his last 2 movies you know he cant direct if his life depended on it . all he is doing is riding on his semi successful music career coat tails to get big name projects stop letting this guy make movies please!!!!

I personally thought this was an awesome movie. I heard the final cut has more gore, which is not needed. The humanization of Michael was awesome, it’s nothing supernatural that keeps him going but pure hatred and drive. Michael is a product of his environment.
Great job rob zombie, your other movies where funny and over the top, but this one is truely great.

I just hope that the studio didn’t fuck up the final version too much.

This movie/workprint shows the Myers family as white trash. It has Michael end up as a big stupid psycho with a childlike mentality (resulting from his upbringing). The killings are way too random and gory. And he doesn’t even go after Laurie with the intent to kill her(at first). Worst of all, a lot of the memorable scenes from the original weren’t even included in this one *sigh*
It really dumbed down Michael Myers from the original Halloween series, IMO. It makes him more like a leatherface-ish character than a well-planned stalker/slasher.
I hope the theatrical release isn’t as much of a letdown. As a fan of the series, I’ll give it a shot but I’m really hoping that in the future they’ll pick up where Halloween 6 left off and bring some closure to the storyline. I’d rather see another sequel, even something like H: Resurrection, than the piece of garbage I just wasted my time and bandwidth on.

I will agree though that Michael’s mother, played by Zombie’s wife, was done very well and he did do a good job of showing why Michael’s parents were MIA by the time he’s an adult.

Unnecessary carnage in a Rob Zombie movie? Say it isn’t so… Honestly guys, what did you expect? His other movies, while good IMO, had loads of carnage that frankly wasn’t necessary. Of course there’s going to be unneeded killing going on. Throughout the movies, he’s usually only killed people that had something he needed (or wanted) or to get them out of the way so he can proceed on his mission to kill his family members. If in this new movie he’s killing mindlessly - yeah, no thanks. He’s a psychopath, but he’s a psychopath with a one track mind.

    I’ll rent this one.

Doing a film re-make that is just essentially a scene for scene remake is as boring as doing it with an album… the whole point of a remake, IMO, is to do something different with the material. From what I saw in the workprint, Rob did a hell of a job with this. It also has the LEAST amount of ‘unneccesary’ carnage from any of his films so far. (SPOILER) The whole rape scene (which I understand was cut from the theatrical release), Michael has the chance to kill everyone, but leaves the girl alive. I like the humanization of Michael. To me, it worked.

WTH has anyone even SEEN the original. I liked the showing of the monster in creation. Yes micheal was in a nice family in the original not the white trash but thats the Zombie touch. but the movie was the exact same with more gore. exact… the final theater release has every scene from the original. just more elaborate. if I was to do a remake i think the homage would look the same. The rape scene was not needed and im glad they changed it. The workprint did lose alot of the original stuff. but the final version brings you back to 1979.

FIRST OF ALL JOSE….IF THATS ALL YOU THINK ABOUT IS NAKED GIRLS IN A MOVIE YOU’RE A PIECE OF SH**. ACTRESSES DESERVE MORE CREDIT THAN THAT. AND THE RAPE SCENE WAS COMPLETE BULL. iM GLAD THOSE MOTHERF88CKERS DIED AND SHE WAS LEFT ALIVE. i HAVE A QUESTION THOUGH…DID BOTH OF THEM RAPE HER OR WAS IT JUST ONE OF THEM?
