Walk Hard Movie Trailer

Walk Hard Trailer

I first saw the trailer for Walk Hard at Comic-Con 2007, and was not impressed. Now you can check out the same trailer and decide for yourself. The movie written by Judd Apatow (Knocked Up) and director Jake Kasdan (Orange County) is a comic take on musical biographies as Ray, Walk the Line, and Selena. The trailer will be attached to SuperBad. But you can watch it now after the jump.

Walk Hard follows the up-and-down-and-up-again struggle of legendary musician Dewey Cox (Academy Award® nominee JOHN C. REILLY) as he rises from the poverty of a hardscrabble Alabama farm to conquer the world of popular music through a rollercoaster career that spans seven decades. Along the way to superstardom, Dewey acquires all the trappings of fame and fortune – multiple wives, eleven kids, several mansions, his own ’70s TV show, and a chimp – only to blindly trample them all on his relentless journey to the top. During a life that includes losing his sense of smell after a tragic childhood accident, conquering the music industry and carousing with celebrities from Elvis to The Beatles, even the love of a good woman – longtime back-up singer Darlene Madison (JENNA FISCHER, “The Office”) – isn’t enough to stop the rock n’ roll spiral of drugs, prison, and rehab (lots of rehab) that marks Dewey’s pursuit of writing classic songs that will change a nation at least once.

It should be noted that I’m a huge fan of both Reilly and Apatow. So for a movie trailer for a film written and produced by Apatow starring Reilly to not impress me is a task. May-be I just don’t like the musical biography concept.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
will hit theaters on December 21st 2007.

  • So... Will Ferrell wasn't available? This looks like a steamy pile to me.
  • Kendra
I love Jenna Fischer more than life.
  • RedandJonny
Jack White as Elvis....Worth the price of admission.
  • Pete
i'd see it for fischer too.
  • This movie looks like it could be either a huge disaster or a secretly great smash. But I'll see it for Fischer and Reilly anyway
  • Philip
The parodying of "Walk the Line" is way too obvious. It's a promising concept, but this just doesn't look that good.

But I do love Jenna Fischer, too.
  • Am I just seeing a different trailer than everyone else? Cause all I see are great laugh lines from some of my favorites like Tim Meadows, Jenna Fischer, Paul Rudd, and Jack Black.

People just seem kinda confused about this movie, but I don't see why. In terms of style, it seems to drop somewhere right in between a broader comedy like Talladega Nights and a genre parody flick like Naked Gun. What's wrong with that?

I mean, I'd get it if the jokes weren't funny, but nobody seems to be saying that...
  • Kestrel
Trailer has too much Walk the Line and not enough of the other musical bio movies
  • meg white is better than karen
jack white is god, everything with god is great
  • John C
I think it looks like it could be hilarious. It has the same dramedy feel as boogie nights (which John C Reilly was fantastic in).

I'm looking forward to it. Some of you are just way too critical, and really who cares about the similarities of walk the line? Most people find the music bio genre to be way too melodramatic as it is.

I'll definitely be seeing this, unless reviews universally pan it.
  • Sean
I do love Judd Apatow, but what's made his work endearing is his tendency to cast geeks getting hot girls amidst some edgy, raunchy comedy. Parodies he's done (and I'm primarily thinking of the Ben Stiller Show here) haven't been his strongest work.

I'll wait for the reviews on this one. With that said, I loved me some Superbad last night. :-)
  • who sings the songs for the movie... walk hard... and the others songs. I would like to hear more of them. anyone know?
  • Ash
Entertainment Weekly says Reilly does all the singing and that they're planning to release a boxset of all the music when the movie comes out, aptly titled "A Box of Cox".
  • sol
woooo! Jack White as Elvis!! :)
cant wait to see this. hope they'll bring it to europe this year.
  • I know I'll get blasted for this, but I've never been accused of keeping my opinion to myself.
I love comedy. and love some of the actors in this film.
BUT..based on this trailer...I am personally offended.

Two of the "scenes" really bother me. It's personal to me, so I realize I may be more sensitive about it, I don't appreciate the way the "wife" is portrayed, and sure didn't appreciate it in "Walk the Line" either, and I don't like the line they keep repeating in the trailer, "The wrong son died".

My Grandfather was portrayed in the original saying that to my Dad, and they took that very sensitive line and made a joke out of it.

We're all entitled to our opinion...I won't be seeing it though.

I don't think anyone is going to be blasting Kathy Cash for being annoyed at these cliches...

Kathy, I read about your annoyance with your mother's portrayal in "Walk the Line," and I think you've got every right to skip "Walk Hard." Seeing you speak up on the forum here surprised me, because it's unusual for people connected to these larger-than-life celebrities to make a public comment like that. But it does offer a sense of perspective, so thank you.

For what it's worth, I'm going to too, simply because the film looks like a disaster to me.
  • Thanks SecularSage,
You'd be surprised at how much I've been blasted for just about everything.
I even got made fun of for months on another board for crying 3-4 weeks after Dad died on the CMA accepting awards for "Hurt".

It was astounding for me to believe that some people would be so cruel.

Anyway, Comedy is supposed to be funny. Comedy as a parody can be funny, but this just looks like bad taste and insensitive writing. Dad does have a large family and we're real humans with real feelings. It's just sad to me.

Anyway, I don't normally put my felings on public boards like thi, but I took this one very personally and think many things are disrespectful. Many people may not care for Dad's music, but I've never met anyone that didn't respect him.

Peace and consideration goes a long way! xoxox Kathy

  • sl gal
did jenna fischer sing her parts like john c reilly? if not, who sang? it sounds great. all the music sounds great.
  • Boomer Sooner
This film has a lot of potential and Jenna Fischer is so hot I want to cook a steak on'er. If this traler doesn't do it for you then I think it's time for some introspection and self discovery.
  • Imran
This movie is going to be awesome. I'm planning on buying the soundtrack aswell. That song Walk Hard is awesome! lol.
  • Duke
    This is a parody right?
  • Tracy
hehe EVERYONE WHO LIKES INTROSPECTIVE APATHY WATCH W@LK H@RD LOL "its gonna be a hard walk but i'm gonna try." what a inspiration to the little people hehe
  • Matt Prater
This is the most insensitive, misguided piece of trash I've ever seen in my life. If you want fodder for parody, there's plenty out there...but not Johnny Cash. And especially not the most tragic events of his life. The "wrong son who died" wasn't just a character in a movie...he was Jack Cash, John R. Cash's brother. In his autobiography, Cash tells how Jack went to the school shop to cut wood, then his stomach was ripped open by the blade and he died. The young boy had wanted to be a minister, and his last words were "mommy, can you see the angels?". That Is NOT Acceptable for parody. Make fun of Elvis' quirks --- fine. Make fun of The Beatles and all thier pretentiousness --- fine. Make fun of Johnny Cash's things you can make fun of, fine --- he's human, he did his share of stupid things too. But he was a fine man, and a saint in more ways that one. And one other thing... a hell of a lot more intellegent than he would ever let on.

And If You Can't Tell By Now, I'm Pissed.
  • Matt,
THANK YOU! I just saw another trailer, and can't believe how insensitive and horrid some of the "comedy" is based on the most tragic events in Dad's life! I am appalled that this is what Hollywood has stooped to, but not surprised.

They took liberties with "WALK THE LINE" after Dad died and changed quite a bit of the script that Dad approved before his death.
NO respect for the death of an Uncle I never got to meet because he died a horible death at age 14, No respect for a VERY large family of relatives, children , grandchildren and great-grandchildren left here to mourn his loss. No respect for our loved ones that have gone on before us, and no respect for one of the most important musical genius that ever lived. NOT TO MENTION an incredible person and great Dad.

The trailers I've seen are not only disgusting, but disrespectful and hurtful.
    Kathy Cash
Johnny Cash's daughter and proud of it.

I have to agree with Kathy and the others that say this is in bad taste. When I first saw the trailer for Walk Hard I thought it was a joke. I think the writers were trying to create something like 'Not another teen movie'-esque, and instead created something very insensitive. Every time I see the trailers I get a sick feeling, I think there are many out there that will see it, especially young people, and think this is funny (the part where the brother dies, etc) and not understand this really happened to someone. I have a similiar situation in my family where an uncle I never met died on farm equipment when he was 12. Its tramatic for any family and I just plain think its poor judgement of the writers. If they wanted to write a spoof on the Walk the Line movie (which I think anyway is strange) they could have left that part out at the very least.
  • Jed Apatow
Apatow is way overrated. Both Virgin and Knocked Up were way too long for one. Virgin by a 1/2 hour and Knocked Up by about two hours.
  • suzie
well, folks, no guesswork here.....I have seen the movie and I am mortified that I spent the money on this atrocity. How can I warn you?..... picture a 90 min. SNL skit that is moderately funny at first and then runs way out of steam fast. So so bad. I thought the promos looked great but you can't keep doing the same jokes over and over again for 90 min. Thumbs way down !
  • Jessica
Jenna Fischer doesn't sing her own parts in the movie, she's dubbed over but I can't figure out who sings for her, I'd love to know!
  • Nick McCoy
hey! i just wanted to say fuck you to all of you all who doubted this movie, yall are all fucking dousche bags and fuck yall. does no body have a since of humor in this fucking nation? the people in this movie are the funniest people will see in a movie yous stupid pricks. if yall had any brain matter what so ever yall would appereciate this comedy, fuck all of yall and honesty if yall have a problem give me a call at 432 559 1244, honestly if yall dont think this movie is funny then fuck yall and you apparentl havent seen walk the line and yall are apparently a boring sack of shit
  • kathy cash
    Wow Nick,
happy New year to you too.
I have a SENSE of humor, but it's not at the price of hurting people and making fun of the REAL death of a child and other REAL things that happened to a family. MINE.!!!
I love comedy. I like FUNNY comedy, not stupid and insensitive parodies on a real family that is still grieving for 7 family members that died in less than 3 years.
We all have a right to our opinion, That's mine.
Pour out your cereal someone pissed in.

would you recomend this for teen agers. my doughter was in it and I was thinking of taking her she was in the gardening /walking seen. she played one of his doughter.
  • Johnny Cash is an American icon, I grew up loving his music. I had a brief thought of seeing this film, not really knowing what it was about, until i read these posts. My heart goes out to you Kathy. Personally, I've never met a person who didn't like Johnny Cash and I'm 35. It saddens me to think anyone could not like him or his music. I did see Walk the Line and liked it, but felt the power of Johnny Cash just wasn't quite there. I think it's sad that Walk Hard is using the tragic events of Mr. Cash's life as the basis for their storyline. What a shame.
  • Mandy
I watched this film, not having heard anything about it before, and was really surprised to find someone had parodied the life of Johnny Cash.....why would you??!!
There are plenty of movies which parody different film genres which ARE funny....but this film blatently singles out Johnny Cash, for no apparent reason, with a string of mediocre gags about his personal life which I found very uncomfortable to watch. I am truly surprised that someone would make this type of film about a music legend such as Johnny Cash.Perhaps if the film were not based so heavily on real-life traumatic events from a real person's life, the film would be vaguely amusing, but, as it is, it seems to me to be just plain insensitive.
The first thought my husband and I had was of Johnny Cash's family, and did anyone run the film past them first before releasing the film....out of respect, but I am guessing not, being that it is so insensitive.
Have seen some of the actors from Walk Hard in other films where they were indeed funny, but I find it difficult to see this as just a funny movie when the gags are at the expense of a real person, I'm afraid.

Saw the movie tonight and loved the singing. Was about to watch the director's version to get more info when I found this site.

1.) Having seen the JCash movie -- I still didn't realize that this mixed parody was focused on him. It came off as a composite of all LABAMBA-CASH-BROTHERwhereARTthou genres.

2.) The detail mentioned in this forum is too precise to be on accident by the writers. Hmmf. It's like someone just pissed in the beer. ARE THE WRITERS NOT CONFIDANT ENOUGH TO AVOID SICK REAL LIFE DETAILS?

kudos to the main actor for his hard work but... this wasn't satire or useful in any way when you have to get a cheap laugh out of a dead guy.

"Scary Movie" and the like make fun of genres not real people.

I will avoid movies by these people. They aren't getting our money.
