I Am Legend screenwriter Mark Protosevich is already talking about a potential sequel. The LA Times writes:
“There is no word yet on how Protosevich plans to extend the story of lone military scientist Robert Neville’s struggle to survive against a mutant populace. But it’s a good bet that he’s setting it at least 10 years in the future.”
Of course, a sequel all depends on the box office success of the first film. I Am Legend is a modern day adaptation of the classic 1954 science fiction novel by Richard Matheson. Will Smith stars as Robert Neville, a former scientist who is the last uninfected human in Manhattan, if not the world. Warner Bros has been developing the project since 1994. At one point Ridley Scott was attached to direct while Arnold Schwarzenegger was in talks to star. I Am Legend hits theaters on December 14, 2007.

Well, that says a whole lot. How are the filmmakers staying faithful to the novel if a sequel set farther in the future with Neville is being planned? Unless the film doesn’t tell the entire story in the novel, at least not up to that ending. This is not good.

I can “pitch” a sequel to Titanic, but that doesn’t mean it will ever get made. Protosevich is just trying to get some publicity for himself based on the fact that he worked on an earlier draft of the script that eventually became the current movie.

SEQUEL? These people have read the book havent they…. I was excited when I heard about this film, but theres been, what, 2 other versions that weren’t close to the book. I don’t think they’re going to get it right either.

If the movie follows the book, then the book never explained his “real” immunity. There were a lot of assumptions about the germ, the anti-virus, the pill, no answers so room for franchise (err, Resident Evil?) But since this is based on the remake of ORIGINAL storyline of Shelly, this wins.
That leaves room for assumption, just like Neville throughout the “novel,” for the first portion, no one really knows whats going on. It would be nice to know how technical the movie will get but, for all we know, he’s immortal too.
I can see them going into to detail about the new minorities and bats and what not. For now, I’m ready for the first one, after reading the novel.

I think that the movie was great but setting a sequel 10 years into the future doesn’t sound that exciting. I would rather see a pr-sequel to the movie going more in depth with the beginning of the virus and how Dr. Neville got to how he living in the movie. I think there is a lot of potential in the making of and sequel or a pre-sequel but regardless of what happens i will still go watch another I am Legend movie.

I would really like to see another I am Legend movie, no matter if it was a prequel or a sequel. I think (Spoiler) that if it would be a sequel, then it should be based on how Ana (I think that’s her name) and her son recooperate after Neville’s death and how she goes to the colony and they all figure the cure and so on. It would also be cool to see how it all started and how Neville got to where I am Legend started. Which way, I think it’ll be cool to have another movie come out.

They should make a sequel that takes place in the survivors colony and they are trying to find the cure but they create an even deadlier strain of the virus that spreads throughout the colony.
I also agree with the idea of making a prequel about the time the infection hit and whatnot.

Im 15 so excuse my unproperness. i read the book and thought it was bomb…i generally like the book over the movie book in the this sort of situation. But i found the movie to be better. The dog had more of a roll and..yea dawgs are cool…but making a sequal will suck becuase no one cares about ana and her child …but a prequal about smith and his doggy id see that shit….and no one can say that this movie is a copy of resident evil or 28 days later becuase in fact there more of a copy off the book. But yea…sick movie..and sick book aswell…

a good sequel i think would take take place of the colony making the vaccine and spreading it but at the same time the dark seekers got smarter witch i think is a possibility (spoiler: when the one dark seeker was purposely trying to kill Nevile with the releasing the dogs, setting up the trap just like Nevile’s, and the tossing of the other dark seekers away to get to Nevile) with them eventually talking and developing characters but still some of the dark seekers still primal and having some sort of war with the humans

has anyone seen the omega man with charlton heston was made early eighties,of which he was called robert neville,great film a must see,same story!wish they kept the original music sounds very cool, thought the remake was good, found that the action was not evenlly spread.guess if you can see the omega man you will no what i mean,but neverless great film, i think a sequel would be good, whats to say neville is dead???? whats to say that they could use another “a” class actor who resides in the colony, who has to go back to finish off nevills work, i dont think we have seen the last of these mutants…….

There must have been someone else outside that came to investigate the explosions in the city, he Neville throw his grenade toward the middle of the infected to get the biggest effect or Alice and the boy would be eaten, they were knocked out until morning and left in the walls of the lab. Neville is surrounded by three of the infected in his destroyed lab he was knocked out during a second and bigger explosion that came from outside to blow the walls down he got knocked out and is drag from the lab by an unknown savior. It has been two weeks and he awakes to find him self with a small group of survivors that are heading to the colony that Alice spoke.
During his stay in the colony he has been trying to perfect the process of his cute, so from time to time he and his team have to go out and trap new subjects for his experiments. Every time they go out the infected track them, and they come ever closer to the colony, during his last trek to find a new subject and while he had him at the lab he discovered that they are changing. He is in a race against time because his antivirus cure will only work for a little time, the virus is in a constant state of change they are mutating, it could be tomorrow or a few years from now, and they the infected will become and more like the vampires of legend, and those people who exists in those colonies will be completely wiped out!

a brilliant film just ordered the book to see how good it is.
they could make a prequel and a sequel or even one set in the same timeline in a different place your not telling me that america is the only place that scientists can make crazy viruses and cures!
so the prequel could be set from when the helecopters crashed to when neville is in the gt500 but you could find out about how it spread and how neville is immune.
it could be called im gonna be a legend lol.
the one in a different place same timeline could be about survivors in a different part of the world with of course the ever evolving kv virus.

the sequel could be many different things maybe nevill was dreaming the whold running at the infected with a grenade and that really some other survivors come and kill the infected and neville can go along with ana and ethan to the surviors colony trying to cure the infected but that it only worked on certain infected the others would stay infected and allow them to be able to move in the daylight which would not be good for the survivors.

but whatever happens i would like to see more of our infected friends and i would like to know if that infected male who traps neville and sets the dogs on him smashes his head into the glass in the lab etc. if he is some kind of infected leader because he seems to lead them in a few scenes. but no matter what the reviews would be of another film i would still go and see it.

Every writer talks about either a sequel or a prequel after finishing something. They always keep the idea open. I personally think a sequel would be awesome. At the end at the survivor’s colony, they never really show if the cure worked or not. The filmakers could go into more detail with that. And for anyone who hasn’t seen the movie… GO SEE IT! It’s awesome, it seemed so short because of all the suspense!

Prequel or Sequel, I thought Neville gave his life for Anna and her son to get the blood test to the survivours Colony. How could he survive such a blast from that Grenade also he was holding it. other than that observation the movie was fantastic and i love to see the special effects on how they transform well know cities into a desolate, dead habitations. like 28 Days Later which was another realistic movie on a deadly plague! I Am Legend and 28 Days Later are probably the best films, by plot and special effects. Not those stupid predictible Zobie movies that are more or less funny to watch not to be taken seriously. i have finished reading this fantastic book Oryx & Crake and WOW does it have an amazing plot with a deadly Virus, like I Am Legend. I wished they had made a movie of that because it’s plot is so much more detailed. Read that book, I doubt you will be bored!!

I think they are following the book, but the story has been divided in 2 parts, one is this movie, and the last part will be the sequel.
The girl and the boy are not what they seem. Check again the scene when Will Smith is trapped in his car, upside down, after the monster runs out from “the light”…

So wait there might be a sequel on the book not the movie because that makes alot more sense. If he does not die in the end of the novel (he being Neville) it’s best then for the novel to have a sequel, but not for the movie because the girl narrates at the end of how Neville gave his life to “light up the darkness” there could be a sequel on how the colony survives, but they cant show Neville because he gave his life in the first movie. It would be neat if they came up with a sequel for the novel.

Neville mentioned one time the progressive behavior of the zomies when the one “leader” zombie came out into the sun light to roar after he had captured the infected female.
You see, the zomies continue to mutate as the virus evolves. The virus bringing at first the world population to almost nothing. And reverting the remaining 10% to a primal inhuman state. Slowly as the virus evolves the zomies start to become more intelligent, forming sub-primal clans ruled by the strongest and most intelligent.
So when Neville captured the female zombie for testing the cure, he was ACTUALLY kidnapping the leader zombies “mate” of some sort.

I over all enjoyed the movie a lot better than the book. I would have liked the movie bettter if robert had a way of killing the zombie things, without killing himself. Although the ending wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. But I have to say that I enjoy happy endings. I was very happy that they chose to have Willl Smith as “Robert Neville,”Will still has the ation hero thing going on like in “I robot.” I think Will was the perfect actor for neville, I don’t think that anyone could have pulled the movie off better then Will. If it were someone else then I would probably be even more upset about the ending. but I deffinatly think that they should make a prequel. I think that neville should have cured more people before he died. But I strongly suggest that they make a prequel then make a sequel.

Actually I know how a sequal could be done. I had an idea and decided to push my other stories aside while I write it. If I have an idea, I am sure that others do too. But I think that Hollywood will make the mistake of trying to make money rather than make a good movie (which would then make a lot of money) so a sequal will be lame.

If done right a sequal would be cool. I had an idea that could work, and have pushed aside the other stories I am writing to write my idea. So if I have an idea, I am sure other people do too.
However I think that Hollywood will try to make money rather than make a good movie (which would then make a lot of money) so any sequal will be lame. Especially since they usually rush put it out.

I like this ending far better, the person or persons who said to use the other are asses, how many Virologist do they think survived the outbreak! You would need someone who had his notes and the samples to cure the population in the end and that would take many more years because you would have to weaponize the cure in order to insure that everyone one received the Cure! I even wrote an alternate ending myself, I told others that it would take from three to five sec for the grenade to go off, but they said I was stupid for saying how it had ending wrong. Also remember that we all saw those guys standing around him in the trailers so there had to be a better ending! I also explained who in part two how the virus was continuing to change the infected and that their abilities were increasing, and that they were becoming more like the vampires of legend! Dr. Neville had gone out on a search for more gin pigs to test how well the cure would work , because they could not afford to wait three or four day for it to work, he was developing a faster process to assimilate the cure into the infected! But during their search they encounter a new type of infected and they are running out of time the infected are have more trouble find food in the cities which provide them protection from the day light so they are having to expand their search for food outside the cities which in time have them come toward and humans that are left in the would in camps, this only protection right now is that they are far from any protection for the infected , but as their powers has expanded so has their range of movement throughout the country. So if Neville dose not complete his cure soon their will be now one left, because they will be food for the infected.

OK First of All Im pretty sure the part with the Infected around him is just a marketing ploy to show the struggle between Robert Neville(Smith) and the Infected becuase there is no way there could be a second movie seeing as yes he did blow himself up and yes he was holding it when the grenade went off because he leaped at the Infected “Leader” as he came through the glass and the explosion took out the lab and Ana and he Brother were saved because of the chute that they were in and im kinda disapointed that he didnt throw the grenade through the hole in the glass and i was sad wen his dog got the virus because he already had a cure for animals but it didnt work for his dog??? and honestly why did he leave his assault rifle by the puddle rather than strap it around himself it would have saved and if anyone has seen the cover for Omega Man you may notice the “O” is the scientific sign for OHMs as in electricity which makes no sense because its viruses kinda wierd

or maybe they will just use the “alternative controversial ending” of I am legend (its on youtube and the dvd) where neville survived for the continuity of a sequel. I hope if there is a sequel that they focus more on how the virus spread.
Im in for a sequel because the movie felt kind of short just as long as the continuity is not disrupted and they make it as good as the first one or better.

There were a lot of things I didn’t like about the movie, so my friends challenged me to write a different version. The basic idea could be used as a sequal. Rather than “revive” a dead character, a sequal could look at other cities in the country. Mine is written about a survivor in Seattle. I couldn’t make up information that wasn’t in the movie, I could only expand on observation that I made from the movie.
I do have a question, how did that lady drive in and out of New York? It is an island and all bridges were blown up.

That cure sucks it takes two to three days to work and very cold tempetures of the subject or it will just kill them, did any of you really see what happened when he gave it to that girl on the table she died she went into anaphylactic shock. So it is not anything that any one can take. If you are going to be analytical in describing or judging this move you have to look at what really happen at the smallest level. Most of the mice died the girl only live because he revived her, he described how he needed to reduce her body temp. so that her body might readily accept the drug or she would die from it. so in its current form it not a very good cure the body has trouble assimulating it on the celluar level, if your body can npt process the drug it won’t work even if it has the ability to cure you!
