A few months back, Bryan Singer was forced to drop plans to helm a remake of the 1976 cult sci-fi film Logan’s Run. Last we heard, producer Joel Silver turned to commercial director Joseph Kosinski to helm the film. Apparently that is a no-go. Silver has confirmed to Sci Fi that no new director has come on board since Bryan Singer dropped out.
“I’m working on it now and hopefully it will come about,” Silver said at the Television Critics Association press tour. “I’m in the middle of six movies now, so I have my hands full.”
It doesn’t sound good. The original Logan’s Run had a great concept. The new film was/is to be set in an idyllic sci-fi future. There is one major drawback: life must end at 21. A young police assassin at odds with his society’s mandatory death sentence, and plots a daring escape on the eve of his fateful birthday. Let’s hope that another hopeful director steps up to save this project.

Actually, I think the age of 30 is when you were forced to cash in your chips not 21. Even the most jaded adult thinks their 20’s were worth living :)
Great plot and still a fun movie to watch, would love to see it remade. The trick will be capturing the 1970’s “love is all we need” look and feel while adding a modern darkness.

Age 30 in the film, age 21 in Nolan and Johnson’s original novel. Given the ages of York, Agutter, and Jordan (and the challenge of finding name-recognizable 19-21 year old actors), I can see why they made the switch. In addition, we were still in the “don’t trust anyone over 30″ years, so the number was relevant.
Could the story work outside its ’70s context? X-MEN succeeded, to me, partly because it abandoned the “alienated teenagers” theme that ran through Lee & co.’s original comics in favor of a more age-universal problem, represented by the Holocaust. Could LOGAN’S RUN make a similar pilgrimage?

I’d rather that Joel Silver produce the highly sought after, “DreamScapesAxis” movie that is rumored to be the Wachowski’s next Block Buster after Speed Racer is finished.
