Shia

Steven Spielberg is currently hard at work filming Indiana Jones 4. Could Indiana Jones 5, 6, and 7 be far behind? I kid you not. IESB is reporting that Shia LaBeouf, who plays Indy’s son in the fourth adventure, signed a contract which gives Paramount the option to bring LaBeouf back for three sequels.

I’m assuming that Paramount hopes to continue the franchise after star Harrison Ford retires from action. So is the studio hoping that Shia can carry on the franchise as Indiana Jones Jr? (And since it was revealed that Indiana Jones is actually a Jr., would that make Shia Indiana Jones The Third?) I love LaBeouf. He has never done me wrong in the past. I’m sure he’ll be perfect as the sidekick/son character in this film, but could he become the next Indy?

The site also reports that the City of Gods working title may actually be referring to the aliens (as gods). Let’s hope not.

  • Am I the only person whose first thought on this is "WHY, River, WHY?!?" Though, honestly, I'm excited to see this on its way!
  • MKW
Actually, Shia would be Indiana Jones the first. Because Indiana was more of a nickname as his real name was Henry, as Sean Connery's character called Indiana, "junior" as he was really Henry Jones Jr. Unless Indiana names him Henry as well and that would make him the third. So I guess it really depends.
  • Oh, I guess I meant that River Phoenix was my favorite young Indiana ever. *sigh* And then he had to go and buy the farm.
  • Fez
Sweet! I pray to God that this is true! I have complete faith in Shia being capable of continuing the Indiana Jones franchise. That would just be so completely awesome.
  • Kris
He'd totally be capable to continue the Indy saga. Shia's a great actor and has proven himself able of doing action movies. I'd be thrilled if he'd do his own Indy films. He deserves it!
  • colton bean
Well, Im somewhat amazed, that there isnt any hate or Disapproving of this. Though it makes you wonder, would they change the series title?
  • Jungle Joon
Why can't Harrison Ford continue doing the movies?

You say he's too old? Watch X-Men 3 and see what they did to Patrick Stewart.
  • Paul
He could do more movies if they did them now or over the next few years. I think it depends on the popularity of the new film. If it's a mega hit, how can they not be tempted? To do at least one more anyway. Harrison Ford's career could use the shot in the arm these films would give him, long as Spielburg, Lucas, and the writers dont take 20 years to write and produce a new picture. Time to get on the stick like they did after the first movie!!
  • IndianaJoeIndianaJoe
Am I the only one who remembers the chines sidekick or wat wy the hell isnt he in the new movie or is he thats stoopid if he isnt.
  • Indiana
Well at the end of the film it hints this is DEFINATELY not true! go watch the film

I loved the first three Indiana Jones films, and eagerly awaited this 4th one. I saw it last night, not expecting it to be as great as the "originals", but it was still pretty good and FUN. Many people are complaining it sucked for various reasons, I give an excuse and say this film was geared more toward the younger fan crowd (I went to get an Indy t-shirt in the stores and found more youth than adult sizes- so it confirms my excuse.)

I pray to God they don't do any more Indy movies, though. Of course I'd probably continue to support them, but anything after this fourth one (and if they keep the same "feel" as in the 4th), they will continue to downgrade the authenticity of the series. And as for Shia, he's a good actor and was better than I expected as his "sidekick"... but I don't want to see him take over as a "young" Indy ever.

And referring to a few comments up, Shorty (the young boy sidekick from Temple of Doom, was not in the movie.

Overall, the movie was pretty solid and worth seeing, even after 19 years. Fedoras off to you, Indy!
  • Marlon
I just saw the new indiana jones movie... i was a bit confused by all the facts they wanted to implement. It was like watching a movie based on a timeline - to much focused on iconic events that happened in the past. The movie itself is great though but you'll have a mixed feeling after seeing this one. Good in a way that they reallt tried something new (for hollywood) look for camera positioning, colours, special effects but also storywise. Lucas and Spielberg have shown that they understand the audience, entertainment and surprise. Youll be surprised! Bad because, its really hard to get into the movie... it feels like seperate scenes bond together but so unnaturally. Its also to much, the first three where building up a story and the score helped a lot. Youll have a feeling they rushed it to finish it on time. Blur when CGI effects, wide shot (car drop at cliff, youll see), there are a lot of shots not right. Interior is really good! all i can say is look for yourself and take the ride worth taking!
  • Monkey
I agree with you, Marlon... Although I did like it overall, I forgot to mention the "weirdness" I kind of felt thru most of the movie. I thought it was just me at first, but I've noticed many people commenting with similar thoughts. At the end you want to give it a standing ovation, but you really can't. It's still worth seeing, though. Enjoy people!
  • indianajones
indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull is the best indiana jones of all
  • Dr. Jones
Ok, after seeing this movie, i am happy that i grew up watching the first three and did not have to base my indiana jones experience on this flick. Monkey is right the "weirdness" of this movie is too too much , it doesnt have the same feel and aura that ythe first three have. Speilberg has to calm down with his happy go lucky, weak CGI effects, the more he puts in the less the movie is respected. Weaaakk story line, with out spoiling the plot, certain elements of this origins of the Skull and the backstory from the first scene, ulitmately disapoint. Lastly someone had to work on resurecting Marcus Brodey, if u can bring him back from the dead i will see Indy 5
  • Monkey
    Amen to that...
  • XD I think it would be great.... seriously right now, i can only see Shia LeBoufe as Indy jr. He's the only Disney star (ex disney star) to be a great actor on movies of todays world. Raven Symone wasn't a disney star before so she counts as well. I think she's more famous then Shia. anywho, i don't see anybody else as mutt... well Lucas Grabeel would make it well too. :) although both indy and marion are not blond. LOL i would love to see indy in our present time, ya know, i seen all 4, and from the first 3, i never realized that it was set before 1950's. XD, i was so like eeeeh when i found out part 4 was set in 1950's, i thought it was going to be set in our time. XD
  • WOW i wonder how proud Shia's parents, cousins, uncles, aunts and friends, to see him in an "WELL KNOWN ALL TIME MOVIE" indiana jones and transformers. And to know that maybe his parents and uncles and aunts may have seen the 3 indiana jones movies and probably grew up with it to see their son/nephew in it, and to turn out to be the next indiana jones. XD
  • ellol
i like shia but i think the indiana jones franchise would not be the same without harrison is the main character position, if this 5,6,7 is true i hope shia delivers
  • natalie
i like shia. i have no problem if they bring him back. but, lets face it, harrison ford is and always has been indy. it wouldnt feel right if it wasnt harrison ford being indy. so i say yeah, sure. lets bring shia back... but lets not forget the original indy
  • I Have watched all 4 movies. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd were the classics however the 4th was crap!! Was it really created by Lucas and Speilberg???
I think Harrison is a legend of this franchise, so i dont really think Indi can kill him of.
I do think Lucas has come to the limit!
Dont get me wronge Shia was great in the film, however i think they should either:

    1) Make a 5th Film, A classic, this film should be an end to the franchise (Harrison doesnt live forever). People can remember this film, not just an advventure, but a life story

    2) Ive always had this idea on producing these 4 or 5 films of indies classics for a conclusional reason which will be the HIT!!! If it was Indi's grandson telling a story of to his children tommorow about the Jones creations

The 2nd option would be great, maybe i should email Lucas about it (any how it would be better then his plot)
  • indy
indys dad shouldnt be dead they should make it turn out he was not really dead at all.
  • ewhui
I felt like it needed some aplause, but I ddidnt and no one else did
  • as long as Harrison Ford is alive he would be the 'only' choice for the Indiana Jones character. He is still a fantastic actor and in better shape now than most of the younger generation going to see the new film so 'age' has no matter. We all age.
Shia Lebouf is a great actor and I think he has the chops to do his own take on the Indian Jones franchise.
The new film doesn't feel right, though.
  • phil
Dj plasmic Nebula,Your an IDIOT (no pun intended) Indiana Jones setting PRESENT ??? C'mon dont Joke around....
  • phil
I totally agree with Hit Critic,Good Obsevations(fortunately we were born yesterday(he,he,he)
  • phil
To Tell You FRANKLY the film SUCKED!!!! It's way OFF,It's TOO much,CRYSTAL SKULL?Soooooo LAME,SHAME ON LUCAS AND SPIELBERG!!!!
  • phil
KUDOS for the rest that thought Ford is the 1 and only INDY, I could not see anyone replacing FORD,(except for RIVER PHOENIX, God rest his soul)
  • Indy
Shia is a good actor but it would almost be a slap in the face to the original trilogy if he were to continue with the series. The fourth was not as good as the first three, so I think that they should do a fifth just to put an ending suitable for the series.
  • Stephen
I thought Shia would ruin this film. Turns out, I think he was the best part. It seemed like they forced this story. Did they have to bring aliens into it? It reminded me of the second NAtional treasure. Like they forced the clues, not nearly as interesting as the first. BAck to Indy, I loved the series, I did not love this one. They didn't have the chemistry in the film. Anyway, having Shia take the reigns, no. As much as I would love to see more Indy movies, I say no. Harrison was a professor and Connery I believe was also smart...Shia, is a school drop out who they tried too hard to make look like a 50's biker...what was with the combing of the hair??? The new Indy should be older in my opinion. Shia is too young. What they need to do is make a new back to the future, even without MJ Fox, I think it could work...Dr Brown with his wife and sons...or a new Ghostbusters...
  • Dr. Jones
just showing my disgust once again , this movie is yet another trilogy ruiner, right up there with Die Hard 4 , cmon now , ur rich enought Spielberg...and another thing , this isnt james bond indiana jones isnt suposed to go on forever with a new lead role every 10 years , no need to find a new one cause there is and has been only one indy as far as im concerned. And thats the bottom line cause stone cold said so .
  • Laura
I believe the Spielberg and Lucas did their best to keep the Indy theme alive but also realized that it had been 19 years and the demographic of people who would pay the most to see this movie had changed. They needed something new. I believe that the movie was good; no it wasn't the originals but if you went in expecting it to be you were bound to be disappointed. If they continue I am sure Harrison would be in the movies as a major player. Lucas and Spielberg knew Indy is nothing without that man and they know they would lose half the fan base by taking him out altogether. I have faith in these two men to do the best of their ability with any movie they wish to put out. It's not like they put out half assed work they try very hard and it may not be perfect but if that’s what you expect then you will always be disappointed.
Shia did an amazing job stepping in to big shoes and trying his very best to live up to what he knew would be expected. You could tell he had doubts about taking the role because the reviews among fans and new comers would be mixed. He has a definite Indy flare. Shia as an actor is very good I have no doubt in my mind that if sequels were to be produced that he would stand and deliver.
  • Dr. Jones
Try try try again huh ? u dont do that with indy, the plot was half assed and wierd , definitly a long term scratched together story line to be different from the others , people dont want different they want wut they like , and aliens and scifi and cheap CG is not wut they like, Shia sucks and trys to hard , he is not natural on camera, he is a cheap corny lining side kick in the majority of his career, which has yet to truely produce and make a legit name for himself.
  • Stroud
For me, I just wouldn't enjoy an Indiana Jones film if Indiana Jones himself were not in it. Besides, for me, Shia Lebouf just doesn’t fit the “Indy” mold. I think Zachary Quinto has the right look and attitude for the part, but he was busy with Star Trek. Besides, since I’m not a highly paid professional, my opinion probably doesn’t matter anyway.

Still the same, I absolutely do want to see an Indy 5. I’d love to see more adventures in writing, too. I know it may not be with Ford, but who knows? Someday, it’d be great to see Indy on the small screen — a tv series and not something like Young Indiana Jones. There was nothing "Indiana Jones" about it, until Harrison Ford guest starred. Otherwise, that show failed to meet the mark for the audience. I would love a series, or even tv movies. In any case, it's got to be true to what the crowds fell in love with--Indiana Jones.
  • Joe101
I agree, they should only continue the searies if Harrison Ford is in it other wise they should not do it because Harrison Ford is the major star of it and their would be no movie with him he is in-replaceable.

They could make it so that they go on a adventure together like Indiana did with his dad in the Last Crusade.
  • George lucas must be mad to think this will work, im am well up for an indiana jones 5,6,7 but only if Harrison Ford is still in the driving seat, i dont mind shia (mutt) as his new sidekick helping him kick the russians ass and any other bad guys, but thats truely all he could ever be, and the only way it will ever really work!
  • Why would any of us want to see a spin off with mud?? if ask you? You do realise if there ever is a spin-off with Shia as Mud on his own then will may have to kiil off indiana jones as they did with indy’s dad (sean connery) as they did in this one to make bit more believable. I mean come on who wants to see Shia’s caracter (mud williams) in a scene at begining of film of indy 5, 6 or 7 looking down at photo of indiana jones (harrison ford) moarning over his dad indy dying, as indiana jones did in this latest film lookiing at his dad (sean connery), who wants to remenber the franchise like that because i dont. If harrison Ford aint in the sequals then the heart/soul/magic will be gone! they just wouldnt work. We dont want to see the charactor Indiana Jones an all most old man nearly needing a walking stick or bumped off to bring in the son to take over the franchise, it is just demoralizing the first three films! we dont want to remember indiana jones like that do we????,
IF THEY DO ANY INDY MOVIES WITHOUT HARRISON FORD IT WOULD BE WRONG! IT WOULD BE “SAC RELIGIOUS”!!!
  • LETS HANG GOERGE LUCAS FOR EVEN CONCIDERING ANY SEQUALS WITHOUT HARRISON FORD!!
WHO THINKS HE IS JUST TRYING TO MAKE AS MUCH MONEY FROM THE FRANCHISE AS HE CAN BY EVEN THINKING OF MAKING ANY SPIN-OFFS?!?
  • PLEASE DONT WRECK OUR MEMERIES OF HARRISON FORD AS INDIANA JONES!! DON'T KILL HIM OFF JUST FOR A NEW SPIN-OFF FRANCHISE THAT JUST SIMPLY WON'T WORK!!
  • Dr. Jones
    story flaw:

indy drank from the grail , technically him and his father should not die in these horrid sequals that never should have been made because they drank from it,

    also:
shia is such a girl in this too , indy 4 should not have been made nor should thougths of 5? ....6?....7? cmon , if you can think of a better way to end an timeless classic trilogy than indy riding off into the sunset ( crusade ) .come talk to me and we can get rick but untill that day , indy franchise should have been put under lock and key nailed up in a wooden box and wheeled away into a secret governemnt bunker next to the ark ( raiders)
  • danny
It's just sad because, this one was like a forced kids movie.. happy meal Indiana. Harrison tried, but from the get go of that freakin C.G.I. hanger it was just damn insulting. I hung on. But by the time they were going over those freakin waterfalls, my suspension of beliefe had been stretched WAY too far, and I was sad. Literally sad. But he time they finished, with the flying saucer, it was like.. honestly, I could have done better then that. Marion had no scene time. And she looks better in post film interviews then she did on screne. Poor gal... The script was forced. The story was forced. And Indy's jacket looked like a bulky bunch of frumpy plastic.

Raiders had this darkness about it (Did you know they considered having Sallah shot point blank by the Nazi's while Indy was figuring out the location for the Well of Souls?) and despite the fact that the franchise was about a fantasy, this earthy grit kept it grounded.... When it came to loosing Sallah, they didn't have to because the feeling was already there. It could happen, and our heros, however cinimatic and lucky, were vunerable... not just dirty.... Just that that and other possibilities were in the air made it intense... real... or, at least, dark enough that it wasn't a happy meal! Temple of Doom, hokey but still, the same. Indy's friend, shot in Club Obi Wan, dies right in his arms. I half believe it all. Even in Last Crusade, I'm thinkin' "crap, these guys are Nazi's, watch out!"
With the exception of a couple scenes, Indy four was far too much of a given.... Ok, OOPS! HEEEEERE we goooo! And by the time they're done, well, crap, throw Me off a water fall. The Room with the Aliens didn't even look like some cryptic dark place. It looked like a video game! No C.G.I. You lied! Liars!
Honestly, I would have rather watched a touching, less ACTION based film about a old adventurer going around and trying to get his life together, maybe after his father dies.... I could have been done. Like Franchise Ford Coppola. maybe he could find mutt, or try and re-kindle somthing with Marion and get wrapped up in somthing along the way... Or SOMTHING besides what they did! With almost NO story line!

Wouldve liked it better if Marion saved Indy this time. maybe she could have run a Circus, or a Orphange in south America, and be GROUNDED in her life. Indy could be on the track for somthing and then get to searching in his own ife... find her, fall in love (more then 2 minutes of dialouge) and then, the old call, to go and look for somthing..... But if they kept it real, like in the begining... if they were PEOPLE and not just Action Family pack, then they could be in thier fifties and still pull it off. Hell, why don't they just make a re-make!
  • Henry JR.
I myself didn't think foundly of the fourth Indiana Jones movie. I mean Aliens. Come on. Mr. Spielburg needs to relize that this isn't E.T. or Close Encounters any more. And the story was forced. I mean the plot and everything didn't seem to feel like the old classic Indiana Jones triology(which WERE REALLY good). I think that Mr. Lucas was a little off his rocker(literally) in this film. The story was just basically disappointing compared to the original adventures. If you're going to make an Indiana Jones movie then make an Indiana Jones movie, not some X-file crap. Now that they are coming out with a new one, I hope that they are able to do better. It's not like it could be any worse than it already was in the fourth film.
    .
  • Hery JR
And please don't replace Harrison ford with Shia Lebough. It just wouldn't be the same. I mean, do you really want a wimpy-lookin' Indy prancing around the globe looking for artifacts. No way. And besides he's too young(I bet that he still lives with his mom). It just wouldn't be right to replace him with the original hero who started the adventures. Please don't replace him with Harrison Ford. It just wouldn't be the same.
  • I really hope they dont make shia the lead role in the next indy movie, there can only be one indiana and thats ford, if they make shia the lead role i garentee half the people wont even watch it, ford is the only peron who can play indy no one else!!!
  • There have been a lot of very interesting points raised here ..... but my biggest problem with Indy 4 was the lack of chemistry between the cast.
Sean and Harrison had it - they had it in spades - but there was no real magic between the cast members in this adventure.

I still think it was a cracking movie ... not half as good as any of the first 3.... but then how many films can compare to those all time classics? The CGI was also tacky ... not what we would expect of a 21st century blockbuster and the waterfall scene went more than a little too far !

Despite these flaws I reckon they could redeem themselves with a much better 5th installment and I hope they make one while Harrison Ford is still up to the task.

We need more witty dialogue... more chemistry between the cast members and Harrison Ford must remain the title character - Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford would be like Buzz. Lightyear without Woody !
  • Jason
If they do this lets make Shia costume as close to Harrison as possiable you cant top that outfit.
  • nouki
cool! huh? hey where's that picture from???
Shia LaBeouf on more of this!? insanely coool!!!!!
of course a spin off can work out.
Hey not all my friends have seen the movies yet, if there's a spin off new public can be interested on it don't u think?
    yaaaaaah wooo hoo!! more sequels!
  • ash
    fuck all of you
