Slusho in Cloverfield

slusho

Update #2: Watch Five Minutes of Cloverfield Right NOW!

Update: One of our reliable studio sources/spies has confirmed that this website is a part of the viral marketing campaign.

We can now confirm that the Slusho.jp site is a part of the Cloverfield viral marketing campaign. I just spent the last half an hour watching and re-watching the Cloverfield trailer when I realized that the guy (Mike Vogul) who appears 52 seconds into the trailer is wearing a Slusho brand t-shirt. Click on the photo above to enlarge or check out the cropped photo to the right. The same guy can be seen on the official 1-18-08.com website pouring a beer into Rob’s mouth. But in that photo his t-shirt is blurred so that you can’t read what it says. The logo too closely matches the logo on the Slusho.jp website, seen below.

Slusho

The Slusho.jp website was registered a week before the worldwide release of the Cloverfield movie trailer. So unless the website was registered by someone who was on the cast or in the production, this site is 100% part of the viral campaign.

As we’ve previously told you, one of Cloverfield’s on location production titles was Slusho. Hardcore fans of Abrams’ Alias may remember as the Slurpee-type beverage that Vaughn offers to Sydney in the second episode of the series. The website seems to be for the Slurpee-type beverage.

Exit Mystery St

We also found what we think might be another clue. On the refrigerator is two pieces of tape that say “EXIT MYSTERY ST” or something to that effect. This could be nothing. Our Slasho on 1-18-08.comfirst thought was that the label was a real life sign for the nearest exit. But we found no Mystery St listed in Los Angeles or New York City. So it seems to be a prop. And most of the other props in the apartment seem to be from Ikea or Urban outfitters. While these two small labels/signs seem to be custom made. Anyone have any ideas? Check out the photo captured from the 1080p resolution trailer to the left. We turned the image sideways to it was easier to read.

If you notice in the source of both of these sites (1-18-08 and slusho) a google script is used, "urchinTracker()" this leads me to believe that these two sites are indeed related. However, on the EthanHaasWasRight site, there is no use of this urchinTracker(). Further proving that the Ethan Haas stuff may indeed not be related to Cloverfield.

But I'm curious as to why Paramount pulled those video's off of youtube. Maybe they're related to another secret project that they have going on?

We'll just have to see on August 1st about the Ethan Haas stuff. And for the rest, time will tell...
  • Skrib
The Ethan Hass is making me more and more curious, i have managed to crack the 1st level of the sphere and you get a grainy video with a guy in military gear talking about a prophecy to do with Ethan Hass. Moves on to another puzzle, all very odd!
  • Um, "urchinTracker" is a VERY common piece of code found on tons of websites. It's just the analytics code for Google site stats tracking.

    Vic
  • The Slusho site provides some potential clues to the origins of the monster in the film because in the History section, there is reference to the magical ingredient in Slusho that turned a fish into a whale. Perhaps its that ingredient that creates the monster that takes off the Statue of Liberty's head...
  • bill
This is what I have found so far in the trailer... when everyone is running into the building from the roof, there is an explosion, and on the wall to rob's right is spraypainted "1987-2004 ace." I googled this and it took me to some wierd rememberance sight for Robert Neville. might be related, might not. Check it, yo!
  • Kevin
Urchin tracker is just an analytics system... we use it on the site I work on.

The Mystery Street sign probably references Mystery Street in New Orleans... probably some Urban Outfitters thing. Also the name of a 1950 film noir movie that takes place in Boston.
  • Mystery Street is a movie in the film noir genre (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mystery_Street). Maybe Abrams is a fan of the director or the genre?
  • rublind
I'm aware that urchin tracker is just an analytics system, but my point is that it's on both of the confirmed Cloverfiled sites, and not on the Ethan Haas' site.
  • Going off of the analytics is a moot point. It's a very general and accessible script for anyone. Besides, we already know that the Ethan Haas websites had nothing to do with this at all.
  • jerry seinfeld
    yawwwwwn...

am i the only one who's ALREADY lost interest in all of this so-called viral marketing? i just don't have the damn time to peruse all these websites and look for clues and talk about them endlessly on the net...

how 'bout just telling me the name of the movie and release date?

or if i just send j.j. abrams a $10 check right now and save all of me the trouble?
  • KJ
This guy found some interesting info

CHECK OUT THE PARODY FOR THE TRAILE....hahaha
    found it on youtube

When you're on the history section of the Slusho site, there's this horse swimming by - when you mouse over it, a thought bubble with a blue oven mitt pops up. I googled "blue oven mitt" and the company that makes one is called Orka. Orka...Orca...killer whale??

I also just search for "Orka" and turns out that it was a Marvel villan that was 24 feet tall and can summon killer whales. WTF? Probably nothing, but who knows? The history does mention whales in it...
  • Has anyone noticed that "Rob" in the trailer is leaving for Japan and Slusho is
clearly based in Japan....grasping at strws here Iknow. But i'm at work and this
    is much more fun.
  • CRC
Hi...going through the trailer carefully. Stop the trailer as Rob comes around the corner...when they are talking about him being "his main dude." Pause the trailer. Focus on the fridge over his left shoulder (on the right as you are looking at him). Do you see the small white object on the fridge? Another demon?
  • CRC
Ok, and then as Rob approaches the makeshit bar after the "main dudge" segment. See the three people to his left. They look CREEPY! Then again, most of them do. :)
  • CRC
and here's another one...right before the guys "main dude statement ends. Pause it. There is a picture of a person/man in a mirror. Not a photograph, not a piece of art.
  • Mota
In the Slusho website, it mentions Honshu, which was the originating coastline that Godzilla came from in the 1985 and 2000 adaptations. It's a possibility.
  • XdarXideX
CRC... you are seeing things you want to see. "Another" demon?? What... there was a first? Did you see one in the hair of the picture of those two girls on the 1-18-08 website? It's not a demon, it's hair. As I've said in a comment on another news item on /film - I bet you're one of those people who believe there was the face of a demon/the devil in the smoke cloud coming from the burning WTC in the attacks of 9/11.

Another bit of info: registrant of the domain name "slusho.jp" seems to be "Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum & Morris", a big Hollywood lawyer firm. In any case, Kudos to JJ Abrams & Co. for creating the best Viral Marketing campaign since
    "The Blair Witch Project".

At 1:02 a skateboard can be see in the background. "AKM" is displayed. A google search didn't make any connections to AKM being a brand name. Perhaps a pro skater's intials? or another clue? Any help?
  • Ian
ummmmmmm......hey guys. he purposely made slusho a japanese site. do not think the japanese lettering has hidden messages. ive checked, ive hoped, nothing.but for the ppl, picture, and refrigirator thing, could u please gimme times!?!?!?
  • Ian
guys sorry for double-posting but something bout the trailer that out. CRC, I looked all around the fridge and there is nothing that looks like a demon, just two photos that that look like the voltron movie site. which has a 20 on it(WTF!?!?!?!?). Anyway, the pplto the left of him look normal like ur average rob friends who i have given them names(bob bill and ted sorry for pointless stuff) and i did not see any person pic mirror thing. Also, Champ, i did not se any skateboard at 1:02 point. just buildings. Sorry for putting u two down for hope of getting clues.

At 1:01 the news broadcast can be seen. Which reveals the temperature to be 63 degrees. 63 Degrees between 12:01 and 12:36 am on January 18th in New York City? Hardly seems right...

NEW YORK CNTRL PK TWR (305801)
    Monthly Totals/Averages
    Maximum Temperature (degrees F)
    Years: 1971-2000

Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Annual
    Average 38.7 41.6 50.5 61.5 71.8 79.9 85.3 83.6 75.9 64.7

    Any insight?

Guys, we must work together, become one. I have thoughts and so do you guys. If you havent already made an AIM adress, make one and contact animefan39 stating Slusho, Cloverfield, or 1-18-08. Then i know i know ur from here, maybe we can find out and know what the ******* **** this monster is!!!!!!!

Regarding the Mystery Street sticker: Its actually a sticker of this sign: http://flickr.com/photos/jonnodotcom/148016918/, from New Orleans Fairgrounds

This is not really a comment, just a pointer for the moderators: In the url in my previous comment, obviously the comma doesnt belong to the adress. Plz remove it?
  • CRC
Guys and gals, if you look at the top of the fridge, there is something that is on top of the fridge. Sort of like one of those bookend gargoyles that perch off of a shelf.
And yes, we see what we want to see, or we all interpret things differently, so to XdarXideX, I feel sorry for you. To go through life without any imagination or creativity must REALLY suck.
And that's the type of response you should expect when you S**T on someone in an open forum, so please NO WHINING ABOUT IT.

Has anyone noticed that the 2nd picture (the girls) is now moving too? Or am I just lame that I didn't notice that before????
  • giggle
    good website LK
I think the number 6 is definitely significant because of the slusho website. Why would it say just 6 if it wasnt. What is the beast in Revelations suppose to look like?
  • bob77
wow. i think LK nailed it
  • Both pics on 1-18-08.com are rotating clockwise at different rates. I'm leaving the site open while I work to see if it does anything else.

My only problem with the Wiki Zeno page is this: "This page was last modified 09:45, 2007 July 11."

LK's comment is posted 65 minutes after the modification.
  • Also, I cross referenced "Anastasius Balkin Zeno" with the wiki pages of those mentioned in the entry (Byzantine, Ariadne, Eastern Roman Emperor, Flavius Zeno, Apokalypsis, and Flavius Anastasius) and there is no mention of Anastasius Balkin Zeno. The timestamps on the other pages aren't as suspicious.
  • Champ
Awesome find LK! Does hell "open" during the end of days? That would explain the temperature increasing. You would think the news broadcast would mention the heat change, perhaps that's giving too much away though. Some people seem to be taking this a little too seriously (here and in other forums) we can spend all day speculating and reseraching and it should all be done in good fun. if we are wrong who cares its a movie, a form of entertainment. If you feel like we're "wasting time" then you are def taking things too seriously...
  • claire
    LK is full of shit.

first of all, the person made that article today. second, his name is 'crimsonfield'

hm. crimsonfield and cloverfield. how convienient. brings to mind a song called 'crimson and clover' by simon & garfunkel. or are they a part of this as well?
  • CRC
I just looked for what the beast in revelations looks like and it only has 4 heads, but they have names: Bush, Cheney, Rice & Rumsfeld.
    HA!
And if you are a supporter of these guys, chill out, it's just a joke.
  • giggle
heeey on that wikipedia site posted by angela, it gives you gives you the link to a related page called bloop. Bloop was a sound found in the ocean near where cthulhu city is suppose to be.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloop

a link to the recording in on Wiki. I dont know if it really sounds like the noise the monster in the trailer makes..maybe the first noise....just putting it out there.
  • Champ
WOW I feel like an idiot! thanks claire!
  • herbert
umm awhile ago when the trailer just came out i searched cloverfield on wikipedia and all it had back then was the date and year wen i opened the date Jan 18 i looked for the year 2008 and it said 'there could have been more time' i thought this was weird so i went to the date jan 18 and i looked for 2008 and it said 'it will begin 28 minutes after midnight' the day after i tried to do the same thing but it was taken down by wikipedia because i guess they thought it was spam but then i remembered that the date jan 18 had a footnote i cliked on it and it took me to a character from H.P. Lovecrafts storys and the character was from the Call Of Chtulu so i guess its most likely going to be about the Chutlu... the links that i clicked were taken down because they thought it was spam so dont try it again but its true it really happened
  • Chris
Well, here goes for my whacked out findings on Slusho.jp:

Hear me out…I think it’s Cthulhu.

Visit Slusho.com and click the 4th link from the left, takes you to the feedback email address Satoshi@slusho.jp. So, a quick search on this Satoshi person reveals this Wiki info:

Satoshi Tajiri is a Japanese electronic game designer and the creator of Pocket Monsters, better known as Pokémon.

The creator of Pokemon! Tell me this is not happening. :)

Ok, you probably think I’m crazy now, but I’m reading more about the Pokemon creator, and guess what, he worked at Nintendo, on Pokemon, for 6 years. 6!

“Slusho! You can’t drink just SIX.”

Now, read the history page on slusho.com. There’s reference to “many towns and villages on Honshu”. Well, you guessed it, Satoshi was born in Machida which is located on Honshu!

Apparently there’s a Digimon (not so much different than Pokemon) character whose design is based on Cthulhu and named after Dagon. The character’s English name is “Dragomon.”

Most Digimon of all levels reside in the Digital World (sometimes called “DigiWorld” for short), a parallel universe created from data inside the Earth’s electronic communication networks. However, Digimon are sometimes capable of traveling to Earth - or as it is called in DigiWorld, the Real World. Courtesy of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ultimate_D...)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ultimate_D... - this is the pokemon character designed after Cthulhu, his type is Sea Animal and his level is ultimate (perfect).

I read on another blog that the monster was a sea monster?

Oh, one more Pokemon coincidence, the kids on slusho.com (boy & girl = the two Pokemon kids) are under water. The Pokemon monster Dragomon is a sea animal.

Dragomon is a Sea Animal Digimon. His Japanese name is Dagomon as he was named after Dagon of Lovecraft literature known as the Cthulhu Mythos, and appearance is based on Cthulhu of the mythos.

Dragomon is a “Wicked God” referred to as “The Sinful Priest of the Ocean Floor”. He is thought to be born from a computer virus that infected the computers of ships and such, disrupting direction and course. When he takes a life, he holds the juzu (prayer beads) on his neck and seemingly mourns.

All these Japanese links, not to mention that Rob (in the trailer) is going to Japan, and his apartment motif is heavily Japanese.

It’s stretch, but lots of coincidences here. If this is not the case, I challenge someone to find that many clues from Slusho.com. :)
  • Zach
ok on the slusho site the number six is emphazised....if you look at every sixth sentence(there are three) of the history you can flag the following phrases: "but tragedy struck", "he is very big", "unlike anything on earth". and i was thinking the last one may point to an alien creature of sorts maybe

i googled the 1987-2004 ace that someone pointed out and it is a creepy memorial website but in the light a candle page there is a candle from j.j. saying cloverfield... thought that was interesting also a lot of other weird stuff as well... also cracked the sphere first level as well the grainy video talks about august first and needing to get alot of people.
  • XdarXideX
CRC - Not that you deserve a response but I have plenty of imagination and as it happens I'm an artist... so creativity is also no problem for me. I just don't fool myself with WILD SPECULATION based on no evidence whatsoever. It's a problem yourself and many people like you have. One that holds you back and I feel sorry for YOU. Hell, the comment you made regarding a demon's face... that doesn't even require any imagination or creativity at all! I can see this "face" but I know it's purely accidental and just a trick of the eye. We're used to identifying faces so it's only natural that you see one.
  • MW
    Hi guys!

Just a quick thought. I looked at that memorial page and read quickly through the slusho page and noticed that both are about addictions - the person in the mememorial page died from huffing and slusho is made from an addicting substance found at the bottom of the sea and which makes you NEED to drink and drink and drink...

    Just thought it was interesting.

I work for a translations company and had one of my japanese QM's look at the text. It says from left to right "Product Description", "Menu (flavors)", "Downloads", "Customer Feedback", "Shop", and "Distribution Opportunities". The reason the 6 is in roman lettering is because that's how the japanese display the number six. Hate to burst your bubble on the "The 6 MSUT be important cause it's not in Japanese!!!!" theory.
