Warner Bros has optioned the property based on a script by newbie Paul Sopocy. Growing up a kid of the 1980’s, I liked (or at least watched) all sorts of bad 80’s cartoon shows (probably starting with The Smurfs). It seems like Hollywood has run out of all original ideas again. Later this month Transformers will be unleashed and prove all the Hollywood movie executives right: “See, remaking the old shit brings in the real cash.” They are already talking about adapting He-Man, The Jetsons, Land of the Lost and many others. And now we have Thundercats. I hate to sound down on the whole idea of live action remakes of the classic animated series, but chances are they won’t be done right. I appreciate the flashback of 80’s nostalgia but would rather something like the first Masters of the Universe movie have never been made. And I’d like to be excited for this film, but I just find it hard to believe that they could make cat-faced humans look “cool” in live-action. I mean, for the record: I always thought car transforming robots fighting each other on freeways would translate to a live-action big screen movie. But this?

I’ve been hearing rumors of this for ages, and as a longtime Thundercats fan, I’m excited by the idea. Honestly, the show was some of the most cracksmokin’ bat-shit crazy material I’ve ever seen — Remember the Robear Berbils? The horrid amalgams of Ewoks, Teddy Ruxpin, and Steven Hawking? — so I have no doubt in my mind that it would hurt to see if it was produced with anything less than full appreciation for its camp value.
As far as the costumes go, take a look at the makeup done for Cats: The Musical. Yes, it’s bizarre and circuslike, but with some changes, it could work. I’d love to see the movie turned into an over-the-top campfest, or even a comedy.
But all that aside… I would die a happy death seeing Ving Rhames or Michael Clarke Duncan playing Panthro.

Yes, I’m in total agree about you Mr. Sciretta.
A robot-car can be… but a cat-human?
They’re just to be kiddin’

I loved the show as a kid but I don’t know how the hell this could be done, and not be laughable on the big screen!
And given the bad recent track record by the WB (Catwoman, Superman Returns, All the Potter movies which have sucked!) I have little hope that they will get this one right.
I will say if they don’t cast Ving Rhames as Panthro I don’t want to bother with this movie at all! He was born to play that role, and even has the same F’IN voice as the toon!

The movie isn’t going to be live action, it’s going to be CGI. Hopefully this won’t suck like Superman return!!

as long as they have the right cast, i’m all for it.
Brandon Routh as Lion-O. he’s perfect
Hugh Jackman as TYGRA. He’s perfect too.
UMA THURMAN as Cheetara.
you get the idea.
oh, and Patrick Stewart as Mumm-Ra

Well I was never into this cartoon if I watched it a couple of times it was cause I was in someone else’s house and hell they watched that… I honestly got bored of the Guy using his sword to watch what was going on in some other places when they have a huge screen in their base that did the same!! honestly the guy wasn’t looking to the future… another thing… every episode ended in the same freaking way.. The mummy was defeated by the guy’s stretching sword and got back to his coffin…. I think they realized that so they added more characters later however it wasn’t something that really keep my attention is like this other cartoon and is the same thing.. it just changes character they were like People with armours and the ability to use metal wings and they called something like falcons or whatever.. I just remember in spanish was “Los Halcones Galacticos” and it was the same thing a crappy bad guy that used some sort of energy to get bigger and stronger, the good guys defeating him and the he got back to his place… so honestly I’ll just wait for Transformers… meanwhile I’ll line uo for SPEED RACER!! NOW WE’RE TALKING!! I hope they don’t screw up this one!!

well I do like the Idea of classic movies and TV programs to come back to the big screen but they do sometimes screw it up with puttung the wrong actors in the movie or just overdoing the special effects…..I dont know if theres some website where people can suggest on whats good and what sucks……Im no movie expert but I know what I like to see in a movie so if I dont like the previews I wont go watch it at the theatre…..not worth it!!!! anyone know if theyre thinking of making the great american hero? I would like to see that one with Will Smith,Jim Carey or will farrell….what do you think?
