The final running time for Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End comes in at whopping 170 minutes, according to FilmJerk. That’s almost three hours long. A whole thirty minutes longer than The Curse of the Black Pearl, and twenty minutes longer than Dead Man’s Chest. CHUD claims that an 2005 early draft of the script was only 99 pages in length. What happened? I’m guessing it has something to do with going into production on a movie before you have a final script.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a great lengthy film. I loved Grindhouse (me and some other guy were the only people to buy tickets apparently). I love the Harry Potter films. I even enjoyed Lord of the Rings and Titanic. But when Hollywood makes a bad lengthy movie, it can be insufferable. What worries me about At World’s End is, well, Dead Man’s Chest. It was long and boring. So when I think “Pirates” and “Long,” the resulting first thought is “Oh No.” But let’s give the film the benefit of the doubt. Heck, the theatrical trailer was very cool indeed.
FilmJerk also reports that the film will rollout on 4150+ screens on May 25. My first thought was that World’s End might be the largest movie release EVER. But after quickly consulting my book of stats, I found that Spider-Man 3 will also be released on 4,150+ screens, in addition to 53 IMAX theaters, making it the largest release (at least that I can find).

Man, the LAST POTC movie was already about 20 minutes too long. If this one isn’t any better, then you’re right: it will be painful to sit through.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS!!!??? BOY, YOU CAN TELL YOU GUYS ARENT ANY FANS OF ANY OF THE ACTORS IN THE MOVIE WE ALL HAPPENED TO LOVE DEAD MANS’ CHEST. AND PLUS JERRY BRUCKHIMER THE PRODUCER SAID THAT HES MAKING THESE MOVIES FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DONT TAKE LIFE TOO SERIOUSLY BECAUSE ITS A PIRATE FILM AND YOU CANT EXPECT IT TO BE SHORT WITH CHARACTERS LIKE JACK,BARBOSSA,ELIZABETH AND WILL. ALL I KNOW IS YOU PEOPLE SHOULDENT EVEN GO SEE IT IF YOUR GOING TO THINK ABOUT IT THAT WAY. MIGHT AS WELL STAY HOME AND TAKE YOUR LIFE TOO SERIOUSLY BY YOURSELF………

Actually I didn’t mind the length of the movie in Dead Man’s Chest, I think many people complained was because either they’re not really fans of pirates to begin with or they didn’t understand whats going on thus making it boring. I know many people that enjoyed watching that. But I do think it’s hard to follow if you havn’t seen Curse of the Black Pearl in a long time.
I don’t think the third movie would be any problem with me. Personally I’d rather they go over time, have a kick ass ending and tie every loops together then have a rushed ending just because of the time….now that would be disappointing. Also it’s hard to cut down many of the things they’ve done.
There’s so much more invloved in this movie now, character development, love triangle, not to mention big action……they’re having a big war, facing pirate extinction….seems rather exciting to me, so it’s expected to be longer, also bigger…and better.
So I’m sure there was no BIG suprize there if the film is longer.

I’m definitely not the target audience. My daughter and her 11 year old friends are completely ga-ga over these movies. I have a feeling that “sparrowis” is very close to that demographic. ;-)
