Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Hudson has turned down a $3 million role in a Warner Bros. movie because of a nude scene. Ready for the twist? It wasn’t Jennifer’s character that gets naked.

Update: Jennifer Hudson claims that this story, which originally appeared in British newspapers, is false.

The Dreamgirls star says that she will never appear in a film that features nudity because she is a role model to aspiring young black women. So I guess we won’t be seeing a Jennifer Huson nude scene anytime soon. As stupid as that may be, you must applaud her for sticking to her convictions especially when a big paycheck it being flaunted under her nose.

  • Paul
How is that stupid. Just because she will not sell her soul for some money, she is stupid. Obviously this writer has no moral clarity and can't recognize a true Christian when he sees one. Instead of making lite of her we should be applauding her resolve. Love you Jennifer.
  • Rod B.
Nice going Jennifer. Thanks for showing us intergrity and conviction. Such character is reward in itself, but rest assured, favor will be upon you.
  • Anonymous
I applaud this sister. I wish MORE celebs would show some integrity and CLASS like she is. Jennifer Hudson is winning in big ways that matter the MOST.

Now I wanna see ol' shake-that-thang-and-dikk-teaser BEYONCE (who claims to be such a CHRISTIAN) try and COPY that same integrity that Jennifer has and start "refusing" things in her career because it "lacks morale" (rolls eyes).

That's really ridiculous she didn't even have to get naked for three million. That's insane for her to turn that down I think that Oscar is going to her head. I'm a black male that watched Dream girls twice because the first time I was not impressed. In my opinion that was not an Oscar worthy performance as far as the acting in concerned. It wasn't bad just not Oscar worthy now if you get Oscar's, for singing the hell out of a song then they should start handing them out left and right. Mary J blige, Patti Labelle and Tina Turner should have ten each she need's to take every role she can get. As long as she is not being portrayed in a stereotypical manner or degrading herself I don't see what the problem is. To me she sounds like she's trying hard to be something that she's not because you can be religious and spiritual but it's called ACTING for a reason. There is probably going to be someone nude or semi-nude in every movie and if she's acting like this already you better have a phenomenal album so at least you'll have a fall back.
  • Danielle Wilson
I believe that she did the right thing because i believe aint no amount of money worth changing you're mind about what it is you believe and, so i give her the up most respect that she doesnt sell herself for short
  • Young
Whomever wrote this article is an ignorent idiot for calling her stupid, because she has morals. Thats all I have to say.
  • Prinxess
The writer in this articles has no morals whatsoever. Why would you call someone stupid for having high morals and self worth. Obviously your the stupid one here. Go to Church! you need it.
  • Moneybags
That is stupid for the people that can't read. SHE'S NOT THE ONE GETTING NAKED!!!!!!!!!
  • Respect
SHE DOESN'T NEED TO BE THE ONE GETTING NAKED TO DECIDE THAT SHE DOESN'T WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN THAT TYPE OF FILM! I can't understand how that makes her stupid? That is her decision. Furthermore it doesn't matter what your opinion of her acting skills are...SHE WON AN OSCAR.

Depending on what type of morals she stands by it is perfectly sensible that she would turn down doing a movie with nude scenes. When Halle Berry (AN ACTRESS!!) was refusing to do nude scenes no one complained, so why is it a problem now?
  • A.G.
This is why this heifer is getting on my last nerve. I thought she was all right at first but nowHer "goody-goody two shoes Thank You Jesus" act is as phony as a three dollar bill. It might have been a great script. Then again it's lucky she's not the one who was asked to be naked. That would have been too brutal to watch
  • Ayana
jenifer hudson doesn't need to be nude for a scene becuase she's better than that and she know how to take good care of herself and can think about what she's gonnasay be-4 she says it and she made a good choice cause i wouldn't do it either!!!!
  • africanbuterfly
she's a very respecfful woman and i agree with ayana's comment
  • Nettie
If Jennifer is a true Christian, I would agree that she should stick to her morals, but what does she have to say about her wearing dresses with her breasts popping all out of her dress. True Christians DO NOT dress like that and she knows it! There is no way she is representative of God and refusing to do that type of movie when she looks rather gross wearing those low cut dresses. She even performed at the Oscars in one. So either she's big headed or she's just a hypocrite.
  • Moneybags
    Talk about it Nettie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • iverwhitt
J, Hud was just in a movie that had her dealing with a man an having a baby out of wedlock. Also, in that same movie, anika noni rose didn't show anything but she was dealing with a married man (eddie) and did a love scene with that married man. Is that being a role model? What is the difference with her being in a movie with a nude "scene".....she is "NOT" the one going nude.
  • REKA
I NEVER SEEN IN THE BIBLE WHERE IT SAYS A CHRISTIAN HAS TO DRESS A CERTAIN WAY IT ONLY SAID THAT MEN SHOULD NOT WEAR WOMEN CLOTHING AND THAT WOMEN SHOULD NOT WEAR MEN CLOTHING. PEOPLE ARE SO IGNORANT TO CALL THE GIRL STUPID FOR NOT WANTING TO DO THE MOVIE THATS WHY WE GOT ALL THIS MESS ON T.V NOW HALF NAKED WOMEN IN VIDEOS AND RAPPERS CALLING WOMEN EVERYTHING AND RAPPING ABOUT ANY AND EVEVRYTHING CAUSE NO ONE WILL STEP UP AND SAY NO I WILL NOT PROMOTE THIS WRONG THING OR THAT WRONG THING WHATEVER IT MAY BE FOR ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY.BUT PEOPLE JUST SEE DOLLAR SIGNS AND THEY DO WHATEVER TO GET THE MONEY.
  • Starscream
I say good for her. I believe she will garner MORE respect for sticking to a personal conviction. $3 million IS a lot of money but even as the Bible says, " . . . what good does it do a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul . . ." I know that the world is worth a lot more than $3 million, but many people have compromised their convictions and morals for much less. Just one person's opinion.
  • LOS
I don't what someone else is doing has to do with her. If it was a scene that she had to do than I understand that. But if its not dealing with her why should she care. It had to be for other reasons. If she is going to be a actress she is going to play in a movie that has some nudity in it. I guarantee that!!!
  • blackpower
To the one's that said jennifer is stupid for not selling her sole for a buck, That show me that you dont have any morals about yourself. You Would let the devil flash some dollars in your face n you would dance like Mr. bojangles. She show class and respect for herself and I applaud her for that. We need more black sista out her to show this young adolescence that you dont have to sell your sole and love yourself because no one will if you cant respect yourself.
  • REKA
WE DONT KNOW WHAT TYPE OF NUDITY IS GOING TO BE IN THE MOVIE THAT COULD BE THE REASON . THERE IS A SUCH THING AS TASTEFUL NUDITY AND UNTASTEFUL. WHATEVER THE REASON JENNIFER WASNT COMFORTABLE WITH THE ROLE OF NUDITY IN THIS MOVIE.ALL I KNOW SHE MADE A DECISION THAT WAS BEST FOR HER NOT BEST FOR HER POCKETS.WOULD YOU BE IN A CRACK HOUSE JUST CAUSE YOU ARENT THE ONE SMOKING CRACK I DONT THINK SO.
  • Lacey
I think that is stupid and that is all I will say.
  • parris
so what if she is missing out on 3 mil for not wanting to do a movie. its her decision. if she doesn't feel comfortable being in a movie with a nude scene--EVEN IF IT IS NOT HER GETTING NAKED-- so what!! yall aint missing out on the money. so why the hell is it such a big deal? every artist/actress has preferences and hers is simply not to be in a movie with portrayals of nudity. maybe if it was you, you would make a different choice, but its not. and all yall complaining aint changing nothing. let the woman live her life her way.
  • SAPPHIRE
I THINK MANY OF YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE DOLLARS SIGN AND NOT SEEING THE BIG PICTURE BEHIND THE MONEY.
I BELIEVE THERE IS MORE TO THIS SCENE THAN WHAT WE ARE HEARING.
MAYBE IT COULD BE THAT HER COUNTER PARTNER IS THE ONE THAT WILL BE NUDE.
DAMN IF SHE DO AND DAMN IF SHE DON'T. MANY PEOPLE WILL STILL COMPLAIN ABOUT HER.
LET'S FACE THE FACT, THE YOUNG LADY SAW THE OPPORTUNITY AND GRABBED IT.
  • realist1
She better take that 3 million and take her ass to church on sundays because when it's over it is over. Take all you can get before the next JHUD emerges-and a new one will.
  • YouBetterKnowIt
Bottom line - Jennifer doesn't want to be in a film that has nudity. APPLAUSE!!!!
The world is going to hell in a handbasket because no one has integrity, morality or plain sense. You can't put a price on everything. For the love of money is the root of all evil. Obviously, Jennifer knows which path she's on and is not about to deter for no one, especially the devils.

I'd rather live as though God exists and find out when I die that I was right, than to live my life as though He didn't exist only to die and find out I was wrong.

    Yall better think about it.
  • lindsay
Good for Jennifer Hudson...we need more black role models like her....especially black woman. All these girls running around naked in videos and having men disrespect them should be ashamed....Jennifer has something that very few know about....it's called class...
  • James
Ok first off its good to see yall sticking up for her but this shit is just a rumor. Jennifer was never offered no nude scene role for 3 million dollars. Secondly she is focused right now on her album because her fans have waited long enough and thats what she wants to do is give them a album since they stood by her so long waiting patiently. Third of all why does it matter if she did or didnt turn down the role. Although its not true of her turning it down but why is it any of our business or concern if she turns down something. its her life not ours! but for the record everyone this story is not true!
  • Tonia
Thank you Lisay! You spoke the truth that's it and that's all!!!
  • Tonia
Thank you Lisay! You spoke the truth that's it and that's all!!! Go Jen
  • KJOURNEY
Whether she is a christian or not, I want to applaud her...pple do anything for money now of days..and I think it says a lot that she wants to show that a black woman can be straight and narrow and doesnt have to be in a movie where there is nudity ....whether its on her behalf or not...
For the person who said seeing her naked would be brutal..remember beauty is in the eyes of the beholder......(learned in like umph grade)...
If you hate it or love it its here decision.........

    do your thing girl
  • Evette
I would have taken the money especially if I was not the one stripping down but i ddo applaud her for being strong. But it could not have been me.
  • beowulf1357
While I have to appaulde her for her conviction I have to ask if her decision was truly the smart one to make. Yes she won an Oscar but f you look at all of the recent female winners of the academy award, each one has shown a little boobage on the big screen. If it's not her taking off her clothes in this movie, than why does she have a problem? Right now she is a hot commodity, but if she doesn't keep her self in the limelight than people will start to forget her. She has to make a choice, is she in this carreer for the long haul or will she be the next George Lazenby?
  • lil tasha
I watched Dreamgirls a few times and i just dont understand why Jennifer got an oscar for singing and not really acting in the first place it took Halley Berry to kiss a white man 2 get one and she just came along and snatched the oscar from other hard working actors that have worked hard and still no oscar not only that but she is ungreatful to american idol. She signs a avon deal but no 3mil contract for others to be naked noe how stupid is that I AM GLAD that a plus size women is now on top but i think someone has the big head
  • MJ
Wow, I am so proud of her for sticking to her convictions! I really am. Many
have sold their souls for riches and I am happy that she didn't. I must say
that I am a Christian as well, but if I had been offered the role, I WOULD
have taken it and the $3 million. However, Jennifer and I are two different
people with different convictions, and I am happy that she had the courage
to stand up for what she believes in.

And for all of you calling her STUPID for refusing the role...if YOU don't
stand up for what is right, YOU will fall for anything. Think about that.
  • atl_1987
    1) none of us know the film or why the actor/actress had to be nude
    2) SHE did not have to be nude, so she still would have been keeping up her convictions
    3) this is definitely potentially damaging to her career, because it is one thing to turn down roles because of what is asked of YOURSELF...but to refuse a role because of an action that is requested of ANOTHER ACTOR?? She is going to turn off a lot of people
  • mimi
Finally someone who agrees that nude scenes are down right disgusting! I never have understood why our society is so infatuated with watching people have sex.
  • Dee
I think Jennifer is being a bit pretentious. She says that she won't partake in a movie that has a nude scene because she has taken on the part of being a role model, but yet in Dream Girls, she participated in premarital sex and even had a child out of wedlock. She didn't seem to take her morals into consideration when she accepted that role. I definitely understand taking a moral stance, but she needs to be consistent.
  • Jacqueline Rhone
Yes, Jennifer did participate in a premarital sex seen in Dream Girls and had a child out of wedlock in the the movie...but she was not naked. There is a difference. I applaud her refusal to bite the dangling carrot. It would have killed her image.
  • The Truth
Dee, none of the scenes where Effie's and Curtis' child were created were portrayed on the screen, so your point has no validity there. In that sense, a child out of wedlock, was IMPLIED, and for that, what she did onscreen was not offensive or inappropriate. In any case, I agree with the poster who says this rumor is probably not true. Either way, Jennifer has a right to remain as devoted to her morals and ethics as she has every been, Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe, SAG, NAACP Image
Award or not. She should never deviate from who she is, and if she is offered a
role that makes her uncomfortable in compromising her religion or ethics, she
very well has that right. Nuff said.
  • jay
ok sincerely, by her saying "aspiring role model for black women"...is that to say that Halle Berry is not?

Lost points here with that comment. I'm all for principles, but the way she stuck in her point in about being a role model makes me feel that Angelina Jolie isn't a
role model because she has been seen in films naked.

Angelina is certainly more a role model than our new fave Ms. Hudson
  • Tianni Dourts
Since when is it a requirement to consider popular publc opinion when managing ones career? An american peformer has a right to chose any role/work for what ever reason they so desire and if their talent warrents they may have more opportunites than others. Therefore if Jennifer Hudson donot want to participate in a film for $3 million and the other actress perhaps with lessor staure in his/her career chooses to disrobe for whatever the cost, then that is their choice. In comparison, why is it that everytime a black person acheive an acomplishment they are expected to be a role model? I mean really people! Was Julia Roberts in PrettyWomen a role model for Dakota Fanning or perhaps the Olsen Twins? Or perhaps it was Cate Winslet....Or Gwenth Patrow ....I wonder what breast baring..., unmarital sex.....murder/horror ...rolemodel roles they'll be expected not to choose due to their target audiance....
  • jay
As I've said previously, - and I think Tianni is agreeing with me. Turn down whatever amount of money, professionally or not based on beliefs. Your principals are the only thing that you really have.

But don't slam down on those who have come before and done these nude scenes and say "i'm trying to be a role model" insinuating that no one who has done a nude scene prior could possibly become one.

Like I said before, Angelina Jolie has done many nude scenes, and even erotic love sequences. Halle Berry of course won for Monster's Ball, which she was having sex in. These people have set the course in hollywood, and for Jennifer Hudson to say that the she needs to be a role model w/ out nudity is like shoving her face into those who came before, and still dominate the industry... and help the world. I mean George Clooney was in "Out of Sight" and there was an erotic scene in the film. Does that mean that George Clooney now is not a role model.

TO HELL WITH THAT! Jennifer, just stick to you guns, but don't say things about the industry that you NOW work in that you don't quite understand yet. Remember you're still very very green.
  • YouBetterKnowIt
How in the world is Angelina Jolie a role model? To whom is modeling a role? She slept with someone elses husband, rumored to have slept with women, wore her first husband's blood around her neck and just because she adopted children from another country and she gives money, she is a role model? Not to mention she had been nude in films.

You don't have to be a celebrity to give to charity, she's just able to do it on a grander scale. I love Halle, but she is no role model either. Multiple marriages and nudity in a film which she got an oscar for showing her chi chis.

Jennifer is right on for standing for what she believes in. Besides, she has already been offered another role and she has accepted.
  • A.G.
On second thought, the story is probably false. Husdon is not yet in the $3 million range. She's needs one or two more film hits before she can get that kind of fee. and another 5 or 6 before she can get more than that

More direct to the point... MIMI WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM?

    Nudity is DISGUSTING??????????

What a boring, frigid prude! You must have been molested as kid!
  • jay
Multiple Husbands makes someone a bad person? Are you effed? What kind of ass backwards society are you living in?

Halle Berry has over come a lot in her years, making her a role model to abused women everywhere!

Angelina may not in your eyes be morally just, but that doesn't mean she hasn't contributed to the well being of this world. Adopting a child on any scale is a large commitment and deserves to be respected.

George Clooney has appeared in films that have had nudity...does that make him any less of a role model in his efforts to stop injustice and starvation?

You know something, this is ridiculous. Principles be damned! You're making the same arrogant remarks that it would seem our Jennifer has made. People who try to change this world need to be admired, not cut down because they've been seen naked.

Geez...it's like talking to an effing wall.
  • YouBetterKnowIt
    To Jay:

That's exactly what I'm saying. It doesn't mean you are a bad person, you are just not a ROLE MODEL. Don't get it twisted, watch who you call your role model. Young people should not be taught to trade spouses at the drop of a dime. These celebs, Halle included were marrying and divorcing so fast the ink is hardly dry.

And first of all, I didn't say if they appeared in a nude film they weren't a role model I said if they were nude in a film they weren't a role model. You better know JESUS and stop worshipping these celebs.
  • blahblahblah
Oh, how 'Christian' to stand up for anti-nudity. I guess standing up for anti-violence was out of the question.

I get a real kick out of people who take such offense to that which we all have, yet don't bat an eyelash to violence.

A role model would be actually *doing* the nude scene so that people of a 'socially undesirable' (ergo, supermodel figure only .0001% of the world has) body image shouldn't feel embarrassed about celebrating that which God gave - no, BLESSED them with.

Sigh. We weren't born with clothes on.
  • jay
Know Jesus? Oh my god. I can't argue my point when religion comes into this, reason just goes out the window.
  • James
WHY ARE YALL STILL TALKING ABOUT THIS. DIDN'T I JUST POST AND SAY THAT SHE SAID THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!! YOU PEOPLE ARE BLIND OR SOMETHING
  • Jacqueline
Like other people have said, doing a sex scene can still make you a role model! Look at Halle Berry.

That girl has worked HARD to get her Oscar, and you were just lucky enough to win Supporting Actress in your first and ONLY role! If anything, being naked in a sex scene would make you more of a role model...

You might have an award, but if you wanna stay up there, you need to work a lot harder. And you can start by getting off that high horse of yours...
