When MGM first announced Terminator 4, they warned fans that the movie would feature an all new cast, which includes an all new Terminator. Many people speculated that because of his political career, Arnold would be absent.
“We did have to think about a new franchise character. He couldn’t carry the movies anymore. So that caused us to have, I think, a pretty novel approach about what the new terminator would be like,” screenwriter John Brancato said.
Well it now looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger might return after all, albeit briefly.
“I think it’s in his contract [to make an appearance],” MGM CEO Harry Sloan told The Boston Herald.
So it looks like Arnold might film a cameo after-all. Sloan also revealed that the hunt has begun for a new Terminator star. Rumored Terminator replacements over the last couple years have included: Ralph Moeller, Vin Diesel, The Rock and Orlando Bloom (no, seriously).
Terminator 3 stars Claire Danes and Nick Stahl are not expected to return for the fourth film. Although T3 star Claire Danes has said publicly that she has an option for a fourth film, if they want her back.
“None of the cast is coming back,” Stahl told SciFi Wire in early 2005. “The T4 story is changing conceptually. I believe it’s a jump to the future, so my character will be quite a bit older. That’s all that I know. So I’m not coming back, which is a drag.”

Terminator 4 … What a big surprise to the nation of terminator lovers who were confident of a real crisp ending to such an innovative story and primarily due to such a wretchedly disappointing 3rd wave of this epic.
Why is that T4 is sooo being looking forward to be watched? The plot and design of T3 almost summarized the gap between no war and war. This is useless and definitely not right for this type of film.
The reason why the production of T3 was very interesting is that what was left of T2 - the belief of ‘judgment day’ being stopped. The film had to take under consideration of the significance and emotion of Kyle Reese, Saraah Conor’s struggle and life and ofcourse John Conor. Although T3 did conclude John’s life, the fact he was naive, confused and ‘messed up’ along with ‘judgment day being inevitable’ doesn’t respect what Kyle and Sarah had been and fought through. Why the hell did they totally introduce the wife of John and her life? Ok, so her father was like the cause of Skynet’s release, but even the part of the machines taking over was much too straightforward.
Arnold did NOT look very suitable as a terminator. I guess it was the essence of the whole movie which is agreeable that it is not very good. The humour really diverted the attention of what this terminator is and what he means. And why is this terminator VERY knowledgable? Abit like a secretary for both Katherine and John… So I think that this was Arnie’s opportunity to make a solid good finish to a very initriguing story inspite him being the undisputed icon of ‘The Terminator’, however this moment for Arnie is far-stretched for T4.
So Arnie’s agendas and age is quite a problem and realistically I don’t think he will make the best terminator like he used to because I think T4 deserves the best of attention compared to the previous films, ESPECIALLY T3. If Arnie can’t do it, nor could this whole idea of T4 unless you get a very well devised idea from the experts. James Cameron did very well for the first 2, perhaps his ideas were made for ‘terminator’ all the way.
If T4 is definitely to be made, I hope Arnie takes the will to make the best terminator film, if not, good luck to the makers.
But for the past, Arnie is absolutely great in ‘The Terminator’ and I don’t think ANYONE can beat a standard like his.

Im a huge Terminator fan and i think nothing beats T2 but the success of 1&2 was the good chemistry between Sarah Connor and Arnie which was missing in T3. I agree a woman terminator is not suited to the role (no offence) T-1000 was even better! Arnie actually recommended The Rock to play the next one and i think he will be the best choice, this time no humor from the Terminator like in T3, it ruins the whole concept. If Sarah comes back (original) then im sure it will be back to what it truly is, this time with its suited theme song and atmosphere which made T2 such a success!

I think that big movies come from big artists only, this movie is far biger than John Cena. Arnold is not suitable for his role animore too. I have three people in mind better than this Cena guy.
1. The Rock
2. J. C. Van Damme
3. Dolph Lundgren
the last two choices are only because they are experienced in this kind of a movie, but i’m not sure with them neither because I haven’t heard from them for a very long time. My first choice is because I believe he can create his own Terminator charisma in his own way. I also would like Arnold to make a short appearance and kill John this time and get captured at the end of the movie. But I don’t want a terminator as the last one to have some stupid weapons as flame thrower and a saw or some kind of a star wars laser weapon on him. That’s why James Cameron was the best, he knew where to stop.
Overall I think we should all get a fucking life.

Ok, I think IF T4 is to be made, the script, the directions and the whole story maybe must be altered in way that this terminator is not the subject. We all know now what’s going on; the war has started. Why see another terminator following some so-called-saviers trying to protect them and all? Would it be necessary for the exciting T4? If you guys were expecting Arnie to play as the terminator, how effective will his role BE, regardless him as old as he is or if he were young?
The fact is; the war has begun. That means the battle between Kyle Reese and the terminator, the battle between Sarah and her fate, the protection of John Connor has been accounted for TOTALLY and now we need a total adjustment and revolution to our war, which the director must take into account.
Perhaps the script should introduce a flaunt, a twist, a SIGNIFICANT error or simply something completely amazing that will withdraw our attention on the Arnie-as-terminator thing and rather see how fierceful this battle has become.
The point is, now that we’ve seen Arnie in action, we want his amazing charisma to BE shown in Terminator 4, like a token of honor. That is how great films never last - the series can go on. Just the way a great person is remembered, the future is still enlightening as if the person still was there - same applies.
Soo people; let’s just hope that T4 will be great film ;)

terminator 4 should be with john conor after plastic surgery to disguise himself so that a new good looking actor can take his role. arnold is must. climax of the film may be with an elaborate ariel fight with planes in which the bad terminator is destroyed by being thrown into a volcanic crator from the aeroplane after a good fight. it should end with an emotinal farewell between john and arnold as in terminator 2 may b a scene like arnold throwing down a reluctant john with a parachut attached to save him from a burning plane where as arnold himself perishes in the air crash

Like most Terminator fans im also a Arnold fan but ppl must realize arnolds age…he is getting up there….and also if any of you have read some of the terminator books or even remember some of Kyles flashbacks in T1 you notice that there are different looking t101’s out there….and more importantly …being that the next film will most likely be “in the future” the film could be full of bare exo skeleton drones all over the place….

hi im gina. i absolutely love the whole storyline of the terminator and i honestly believe along with others that the story will be really boring without arnold. people won’t wanna go see it in theatres or bother spending money to see it. it will be boring without him. he has the perfect look and body and no one can take his place. i watched all 3 terminators and he has done a good job in all them and has to comeback and be the terminator, PLEASEE I BEGG YOU, COME BACK!!!!

I too wish that Arnie could still be Terminator, but lets look at the facts folks, he sometimes walks with a stick now and he’s let himself go a bit since the last movie. I don’t believe that he will be able to get the body to be the Terminator again. He just managed it in T3 and it nearly crippled him! Plus, if T4 is going to be set during the war then there is no need for Arnie because the Terminators were only given human skin after the war had ended in order to infiltrate the surviving human camps, therefore we should only be seeing the endoskeletons in this film.
If they are making this film then I hope they stay truer to Cameron’s masterpieces than the last film did, example being calling Arnie a ‘T101′. He’s actually a T800 Cyberdyne Sysytems Model (CSM) 101 (Robert Patrick being a T1000 in T2). I couldn’t believe it when Arnie uttered “That was a different T101″, I would have thought that he’d blooming know what kind of Terminator he was seeing as though it was the film that brought him world-wide fame and all that, oh well… rant over :-p

I hope that when they do this new film that they do not forget certain details of the old ones. An important one is that Skynet first launches it’s nukes on Russia in the hope of provoking Russia to a counteract nuke strike. So I hope the film dramatizes this event where Russia is first destroyed and in a desperate reaction Russia then do a meeting where they decide on who launched the nukes and whether to initiate a counterstrike.
Meanwhile in the Usa the leaders are trying to figure out what happened and are very upset about Russia being nuked and the film should dramatize the arguments between Russia (what’s left of it) and America, they should also involve other countries such as Uk or Nato and other forces just to give the feel that this is truly a global devastation and not just something that affects Russia and America.
The film then should play a large part in this dramatic devastation and to see the reactions of horror on the rest of the world once they learn of Russia’s devastation,
(also some time between here , there will be human Usa military forces working in America who have built underground secret research facilities a bit like area 51, which are nuke proof. These labs and military facilities serve as factories to produce prototype terminator machines, at some time in the past they acquired the technology from Cyberdyne systems, but at sometime skynet takes over these machines and begins to launch an attack within America, the armed forces would be called upon to fight them, using tanks and helicopters against terminators, waw!)
the film should then gradually unfold as tensions mount and then for a brief moment everything seems normal again– until Russia decide to counteract with Nukes, and we see the horror on peoples faces as they see these nukes being dropped upon them on Nato and American forces.
This should then set the stage for the next film of a devastated future with the machines raging war against people.
I hope it goes something like that, because if the world is just blown up straightaway, it takes away the tension of devastation, it would also be kind of dumb that machines would simply rise up out of nowhere after nukes have just hit and blown up all kind of buildings, including power stations, especially since T800 are manufactured in factory and skynet needs working computers to stay alive. Also if Russia is not attacked first then Arnie 101 in T3 would be telling tales

Silent because am brethless, any way i heard rumers about terminator 4, no commanent on my motional feelings . i was 7 years old when i seen Arnold play the terminator, now i have his special edition at 29 going to 30 ….? feeling old even thowe people tell me i look and seem young even thowe am a long neck too. i feel Arnold as a roll model or a father..? only he would know. i feel resless, confuse or disapoited if he wasen’t coming back, you know al be back, but i understant if he didna’t. arnold was the best on the 3 terminator movies which has seen him rise to worldwide stardom. and now his career has took him to politics… i doubt hes gonna have the time or commitment to return as a star of the movie.. so why not let terminator 4 take us to the future and lets see the thousands of terminators gettin their ass kicked by humans… and im sure arnold could find a day to make a cameo appearance in the movie.. for old times sake.

If there is going to be a main terminator, then Sylvester Stallone would be a good candidate. After Rambo 4 he has shown he still got it.
Plus everyone knows about how hard rocky is, perfect for a bullet shredded terminator.
Alternatively he could play the battle hardened soldier, as a kind of leader/bodyguard with John Connor. It would be good to see Sylvester’s human dogged determined effort fighting the evil machines. Sylvester’s a real pro of showing the emotions of fighting through pain.
Plus the fact that he and Arnie are friends is a great bonus

I don’t think John Cena would suite the role of Terminator. He might be big and strong but he hasn’t got the right look to be a Terminator. A terminator is a cold blooded killing machine, who walks rigid or with a kind of bouncy/twitchy robotic movement.
Cena is a guy who looks more like an agressive street thug/bully/ego look. He justs has to much agression and has a human fleshy, aggressivness and that’s the opposite of a terminator, who is simply an efficient, emotionless, killing machine.
The rock would be much better, he has the ability to do the required movements and has got that ruthless look, without looking too human.

i agree with gaz, futhermore, if u look at arnold n the rock, thier soze is almost the same, their skin colour looks alike.. so it will reduce viewers disappointment.. If we analyse futher, voice also plays a role in ones character, both of them have the robotic kinda voice.. So dwane johnson aka, the rock will be the perfect replacment if arnold ain’t returning..

scence arnold will not be playing the full roll as the terminator. i think they should use john cena, because he has more of arnold’s features and built than vin dessiel. vin dessiel would be good for a different type of terminator.

Arnold is the best actor of all times the movie t1 t2 t3 are hit because of arny without him the three of the movies are flope it is a terminator movie and i dont want or expect any other flope actor to play the role accept arnold.If he dont then dont make a t4

Go back and watch the 1st terminator….in reese’s flashback or forward technically……it showed terminators killing everyone in those underground tunnels and those didnt look like arnold….
Plus who says there will be “SKINNED” T-800 class terminators in terminator 4? Dont get me wrong though, i still think they should show at some piont arnold going back in time for say T2 to defend the young John Conner from the T-1000. But ultimately there should only be endoskeletons and HKs and flying HKs in T4 and maybe some other ROBOTS that we never got to see….

Not to go off topic but, I see alot of talk about how T3 screwed up the timeline for the movies and how in T2 killed off skynet…but really people…..have any of you watched these movies? for 1 since reese is conners dad and sarah/john supposedly kill off skynet from ever being built then john would have disappeared and time would have reversed back to 84 to sarah before the initial attack….
And dont get me started on T2:3d all the rules went out the window on that 1…

The terminator films should be left alone. Christian Bale is surely set to star in the worst film of his career and do his reputation a lot of damage in the process. Some people will watch any old crap.

I see Vin Diesel and The Rock as the best choices, since Arnold is no longer the star terminator.
That might actually be cool too have Vin Diesel as the new terminator, though nobody beats Arnold.

wow this thread is the shite! from 02-07 to now.. more than a year!! well yeah its about Arnold aka The real Terminator afterall.
YES WE ALL WANT ARNOLD IN T4. NOONE CAN KICK ASS LIKE HE DOES… STILL. PERIOD.
Bring him back even if for 5 fookin minutes. Give him the climax. Rest assured T4 will be blockbuster.

Thats just it. I am a Terminator fan, but firstly I am a film fan I’m not a fan of shoddily produced sequels that undermine the quality of the originals. It sounds like a 4th film is well on its way to being one big gimmick with little substance. As for taking my comments elsewhere, you can probably guess what I think of that.
