It’s being reported that Matt Damon, Adrien Brody and Gary Sinise are being courted to star in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek XI.
According to the studio source, Damon (Good Will Hunting, The Departed) would play Captain James T Kirk, the role William Shatner held in the original series. Brody (King Kong, The Pianist) would play Mr. Spock, a role immortalized by Leonard Nimoy. And Sinise (Forrest Gump, Apollo 13) would play Dr. McCoy (originally portrayed by DeForest Kelley), the ornery and politically incorrect ship’s physician aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise.
I have a strongly doubt Brody would agree to glue on the Vulcan ears, but Damon and Sinise have always seemed game for such a project. Plus both Sinise and Damon seem like perfect choices.
What do you guys think?

I was there when Star Trek first aired, and have been a fan every since. The triad of Spock, Kirk and McCoy is special to me. It allowed the writers to explore different facets of the “human” experience.
Years ago, when the initial test balloon went up about a “prequel” I groaned. And I still am. The casting choices makes sense. I like JJ Abrams but all I can ask is WHY?
Star Trek, in its different guises, looked to the future. Even Enterprise had that feel to it. That is what I expect from Star Trek.
Personally, I like the idea that McCoy, Kirk and Spock met because of serendipity. It makes their relationship more organic and realistic. If have they met so much earlier, at the Academy, for me feels contrived. The cynic in me just sees this project as a way to get the fans who are dying for another Star Trek into the theatre without any real work. And there is so much more that can be done in the future. We don’t need the past. Star Trek is about the future.

Name 10 better writer/directors that have emerged in the last 3 years (I know he’s 40, but he just recently started directing movies)

I knew about Matt Damon as Kirk, but Adrien Brody as Spock and Gary Sinise as McCoy!!! This new Star Trek movie sounds worse and worse every time I read about it and I’m not even a diehard fan! All those guys seem to being cast for their physical similarities to the original actors rather than for their acting ability! What next – Paul McGillion (Dr Beckett in Stargate: Atlantis) as Mr Scott!?! (He’s another Canadian who’s done a pretty good job of playing a Scot!)

Please help! I’m not a Star Trek fan but just happened to watch an episode the other night and could not get over the resemblance between Deforest Kelley and Gary Sinise! I’m convinced they must be related - can anyone confirm my curiosity????

Zach Quinto (Sylar from Heroes) has actually expressed interest in being Spock.

hmmmm, this is very interesting. I’m not sure what to think of it. I am a pretty big Star Trek fan but I am trying to keep an open mind about this idea. And wouldn’t Brody put on the ears? He did King Kong, and that was SciFi-ish… What you think he doesn’t realize the icon image of Mr Spock? I think it would be very silly to believe that he wouldn’t “want to” put on the ears.
I don’t like the idea Quinto playing Spock though, I don’t think he has the physical attributes (like Brody has) to play Spock.

Suzie Kane, to answer your question, they are related, but, not really, see Gary Sinese IS actually DeForest Kelly. Hes immortal, kinda like the Highlander, and he has stayed in acting under the disgiuse of Gary, and when you see him in the later Trek films, hes wearing old person make up. Hope that helps

Look, I’ma huge Trek fan, and I will defend the passion of it’s followers, but maybe it is time to allow it to become something different. I have heard they are looking to reboot the franchise, something this universe really does need,
Anyone who is willing to write this movie off based on the casting choices is just being foolish. EVERYTHING comes down to the story and the way it makes you feel. Jay Leno could play Spock and I’d still watch it if it was a kick ass adventure through space!
