It looks like a third Ghostbusters film might actually happen after-all. The catch is, it will be completely computer animationed.
Dan Aykroyd confirmed that an animated Ghostbusters 3 is in development while doing an interview for CISN fm.
“Ghostbusters 3 lives today. A year ago it didn’t.”
“I wrote a script called Hell Bent, Ghostbusters go to hell basically. The premise is that it’s Manhellton. There’s Manhattan and ManHELLton. And if you can build an inter-dimensional phase system so that you can go from one dimension to another. We’ve succeeded doing that and we go to the hell side.
Downtown, Folley Square - where the cops are, they’re all blue minotaurs. Central Park is this huge deep mine, green demons there, surrounded by black onyx thousand foot high apartment buildings with classic red devils. Very wealthy. And we go visit a Donald Trump like character - Mr. Siffler. Lou Siffler, Lucifer. So I will say we meet the devil in it.
It won’t happen as a live action because Billy [Murray] won’t come on to the live action but he will voice his part, as a CGI animated project.
With CGI, and animation, the way these cartoons are done, we can do everything I wrote in that script for a lot less money.”
So there you have it. I’ve never liked the Ghostbusters in Hell concept that much, and Aykroyd’s detailed explaination doesn’t make it sound any more appealing.
Harold Ramis, who co-wrote both films and played Dr. Egon Spengler has been trying to get the project off the ground for a couple years now. Ramis’ plan included the casting of a new Ghostbuster played by Ben Stiller, and the return of Dan Aykroyd and Rick Moranis.

I don’t get how “hat” is the opposite of “hell” and why ManHELLton (GEDDIT!!!!1) has “ton” at the end instead of “tan” as in Manhattan.
To be honest this all feels really contrived and horrible. As a spin-off to The Real Ghostbusters cartoon, fine, I don’t really care. But as making it the third in a Ghostbusters trilogy? Horrible.

I have been waiting for a third sequel for years. I have been an over whelming Ghostbusters fan since I was 2. I even wrote my own script at age 10 for the third one. I have been checking back for years and I come back to find you are going to make an animated film in hell? You can do way better then that. You need the live action or you are not really making a third film at all. If it is that Bill Murray wants more money for the part, forget him you could - use the three of you and still come out ontop, I mean hell its over ten years later..

I never understood why they never made a Ghostbusters 3.It was one of the most popular franchises in the mid 80’s! The cartoons went on for 7 season! There was all kinds of merchandise and toys,it was basically a gold mine for Dan and the rest, but now after 18yrs sence Ghoustbusters 2 and 23yrs sence the original they are finally making a ghostbusters 3…………. What the fuck??? Ghostbusters go to hell? Is this the shit we waited for all this time? The Ghostbusters go to hell to fight a Donald Trump wannabe demon? Dan Aykrode should burn in hell for this! i have loved ghostbusters all of my life and i have always wanted so desperately to see a third movie. and now finally they have got their act together and are going to do it! however im not too keen on the idea that its gunna be cgi. surely its more about a decent plot and a good cast which is what they have rather than a huge budget film? they could easily pull off a brilliant film without spending a load of money. still i will go and watch any film they make cause at the end of the day folkes its still a third gb movie.

The CGI thing might work if they do something like have all the “Hell” scenes in CGI and all the “normal world” scenes in live action. That would make sense. I’m unsure of the whole “Ghostbusters in hell” concept though. We’ll ahve to wait and see.

This is great, I think most of you are underestimating how realistic CGI can look. I mean, with the same voice actors, this being a true sequel to the first two I think this could be great… Honestly, just because it’s CGI doesn’t mean it will look cartoonish at all.

cgi is good in place of real life effects, such as stunts. There would be no problem if they used cgi for the effects in the movie, or for the ghouls. That would be awesome, but to make a third film that is completely different from the other two movies by makeing it computer generated makes no sense. …. Die hard 4 in claymation would be nothing like ghostbusters 3 in cgi. If the cgi is done right, it could look very realistic. The first time I eve saw “Final Fantasy: Spirits Within.” I didn’t know what the movie was but I didn’t realize it was CGI for about 10 to 15 minutes, it was very realistic.

Nick I think that your misunderstanding my statement.What I ment was that takeing a well renowned movie that is depicted a certain way, and then adding an installment to the franchise that is completly different is a horrible idea. I know my example of Die Hard 4 in claymation was a little extreme but in the same tense it would be an extreme to continue on with ghostbustres makeing the long awaited third film drasticly different.I know CGI can seem almost real with newer technology but in the back of your mind you would still know that its CGI.

Also, One way to solve the Bill Murray problem would be to just give him a bit part with limit live action scenes. He said that he would do a small part in the movie or that he wanted to be killed of and come back as a ghost to help the rest of the ghostbusters. I’m not a big fan of the latter. Since the movie is supposed to be 10 + years after the second, have Peter take the role of say, the mayor. He woulnt have to do much live action and he could still be in contact with the ghostbusters.Add an up and comming comedian as a new member and keep the hell story line. Then bring Peter back in the end, suited with a proton pack, to save the day.

nick i dont know where you were when ghostbusters came out on the big screen, but i was witness to one of the greatest big screen films ever. and at the point when i saw the ghost inside of the cross symebol i knew that it was going to be a joy ride of film full of greatness. now youre telling me they can emulate that useing CGI, i doubt that. i’m sorry, i know it may have worked for video game turned film movies like FF but come on…We fell for the live action Ackroyd, Ramis, and Murray, not some picslated version. For the crowd this film would be going after CGI would cause the masses to scare shy.

While I may not have been able to see either of the movies at theaters, they are my favorite movies ever. Now with CGI there is going to be a third… If they have high quality CGI, the same voice actors, the same sort of story, the same feel in general, the movie could be great, and I believe it will be.

look i think what the main thing that everyone is not realising here is that there is going to be a gb3. cgi or not, yeah okay it probably wont have quite the same feel good live action as the first two but i still think that if its played out well enough then it could still work, you need to have all of the oringinal ghostbusters even if it just at the start or at the end to save the day. its all well and good having new ghostbusters but you still need the chemistry of the dan bill and harod, and even earnie hudson i thougt he added to the trio brilliantly.

Well like everyone who is a gb fanatic,i am a little perturbed to find that the 3rd film will be made totally in cgi ! Has Bill Murray got too big for his Boots? Yes there all older now and i guess he doesnt want to be running around alot,but come on Bill ! What you did in the first 2 films wasnt exactly strenous was it ?Just say yes to live film work,Thats what makes the films so great, the interaction between real life and fantasy ie ghosts and ghoulies.Come on Dan and Harold write bill a cameo roll then introduce another gb to the team to add new life to this forever loved franchise. I have been like most of you a big Ghostbusters fan ever since I was kid. I bought all of the toys, and even researched/ built a replica proton pack. After I saw the original idea about ghostbusters going to hell, my first idea was ” how odd”. This , our, generation grew up in the era of zombies, vampires and demons, but Hell.. It might be cool if there wasn’t too much of a kid-like atmosphere. I understand that computer animation has come a long way, but I agree that a live action film would serve the franchise well. If I want a cartoon I will break into my Original Ghostbusters DVD collection, and if I want to get into it I will play my son’s gameboy version Extreme Ghostbusters, but I am wanting to see another live action film. C’mon if they did well with the second film with CG they can do just as well on the third film. It has been over 10 years since the second film CG has gone a great distance and can do thing that you can only imagine. As for the Trump deal, give the guy a break he is already the devil…

I was reviewing the screenshots for the platform game. Looks great. As for the movie I still stand on the thought that the movie should be a Live Action rather than a CG. As for the screen shots to the game has anyone noticed that the creature in the background looks much like the General off of Gears of War? Anyways, there is a rumor that the movie may go live action. Check out the latest info on the newest issue of Fangoria. Columbia Pictures offered Bill a bundel of cash to film the live action. All of that being said it is just a rumor in a magazine. I plan to wait until further news that tell more indepth details.

The Rumors about GB3 have been haunting us ghostbuster fans for years. I will never understand why there is not a production company willing to fund this movie. There is more and more crap released into the theatres every week and the american people still flood the theatres giving their weekly paycheck to production companies that will keep producing crap. GB3 is something that people want to see. If they can take chances on the garbage movies they produce now, why not take a chance on GB3. Harold Ramis has never dissapointed us before. CGI could be cool… if done in a more realistic style like the upcoming Beowulf… not like Final Fantasy (which was awful) and hopefully not cartoony like TMNT (which isn’t that bad in its own way). I’m not sure about the “in hell” concept tho. reminds me of bill & ted’s bogus journey. I actually liked some of the RealGB cartoon episode storylines better than GB2. I would give up the live action to have bill murray voice it as long as everything else was done right. I’m curious tho if the time frame of the new movie will be 2007/8 or just a couple years after the last movie. I ultimately hope that GB3 is a high quality, realistic, action-packed comedy. As long as they do the visuals right and have a decent story (better than GB2 please!!) then I think I’ll be happy with it.

I think they should do one using the original premis Akroyd wrote when John Belushi was still alive. The Ghostbusters travel through time catching ghosts. That could be taken in so many directions.

My son got the Ghostbusters 1 DVD on Saturday and loves it, he’s watched it about 4 times already. I have just ordered him the Ghostbusters 2 DVD aswell. Just because Bill won’t perform live doesn’t mean you have to make an entire CGI movie. Why not just make Bill’s character CGI? Like, have him turn into a ghost and the rest of the guys have to rescue his sole or something.
Honestly, there’s no point making a sequel if it’s not done right. Just look at Blues Brothers 2000.

the idea of peter getting killed and becomeing a ghost was actually tossed around.I dont think that would leave a good taste on the die hard fans that would want to see a conclusion to this epic adventure. Also the idea of them going back in time to fight ghost would be great, had the first two movies not been made to seem semi realistic. I think we all deserve one more movie that can close the ghostbusters chapter and leave evryone the way they felt after the origanl.

Dear Mr. Ramis and Akroyd:
Please tell Bill Murry to stop being such a baby and do a live action film. The 1st 2 movies were great. the effects were nice but what really made those films was the people who were in them. Another fact that made those films great was that the story was told as if it was actually possible that a 100 foot marshmallow man could come walking down into central park. These factors is what made the 1st 2 films. Everyone saw Ghostbusters back in the day the only audience who may not know and go for a simple CGI film is probably kids, but the one audience who knows you are the kids who came up in the 80’s and 90’s. If you made a live action film that had computer generated effects it would not only bring an older generation to the movies it would also bring the new generation. I think Bringing Ben Stiller into the gang cool addition, but without a doubt Bill Murry, Dan Akroyd, and Harold Ramis. You are the 3 that made those movies. Please don’t make just another animated movie .

I would like to have seen a live action version of GB3 but I understand why Bill Murray wouldn’t put his face on it. All the original cast is (sorry to say) getting too old to do a continuation of the last film unless they write in the fact that they’re all getting too old to be Ghostbusters (for continuity). It might even be that Murray doesn’t want to be forever known as a Ghostbuster. He may want to retain his image as a credible actor (though Charlie’s Angels was a turd). of course, the cheapness of CGI compared to the budget of a full-blow sequel. Same thing happened to the Ninja Turtles.

I’m a huge fan of Ghostbusters, i am 16 years old, meaning that Ghostbusters 1 was out 7 years before i was born, and The Real Ghostbusters wasn’t shown T.V that much when i was younger either. I also found it extremly difficult to get hold of proper GB Toys and esspecially the proton Pack, which was on my wish list for years! lol
I think CGI is the wrong route to take, I think introducing the original cast (Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudsen) is the wrong route to take…
I think a brand new cast that can pull off the same expressions and quick wittiness of the original cast should be introduced.
e.g: Quote: Ray”Where do these stairs go?”. Peter: “They go up!”.
Simple, but funny, and it can be pulled off easily by, like, Ben Stiller and Ewan McGregor.
Quote: Peter: “We Came!, We Saw!, We kicked it’s Ass!”
This kind of hyperactive, shouting, could be easily portrayed by a Ben Stiller, a Jim Carrey a Jack Black or a Matt Perry even… lol
Here’s some new cast ideas… Pass them on to Mr.Aykroyd,
Ben Stiller, Jim Carrey, Jack Black, Matt Perry, David Schwimmer, Collin Farrell, Tom Hanks, Vince Vaughn, Bradd Pitt, Owen Wilson, Will Smith, Eddie Murphey, Leonardo De Caprio, Matt Damen, Samuel L.Jackson, Nicolas Cage, Hayden Christensen, Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Steve Carell, Greg Kinnear, Brendan Fraser, Orlando Bloom, Jonny Depp.
Sure they could be juggled around and found out to be an ultimate successful new Four-some of GB’s, and if the Chemistry works out well, we could even see a head-start for Ghostbusters 4 no doubt.

Would Just like to add that,
if the CGI idea is like walking a tight rope… there would be a lot of pressure on pulling it off, and if it gets pulled off, but looks too “childish” then i don’t see many original fans watching it…
I expect 7yr olds would greater benifit from a CGI Movie.
Live Action Ghostbusters 3 would be aimed at a much larger scale audience… and i know for a fact… I WOULD LOVE TO WATCH LIVE ACTION GB 3, AND SEE Ecto 1, SKIDDING DOWN THE ROAD! lol

I bought TMNT on dvd and turned it off within 15 minutes, it just didnt do any justice to the previous live action films.
Please don’t let the same happen to ghostbusters. Imagine the special effect possibilities with new technology!

how about the facial abd bodily expressions and the timing only a real life actor can conjure? It won’t be the same without Bill. The Hell concept sounds retarded. It shouldn’t be CGI. Can you image if the 4th Indiana Jones was CGI? Holy crap. The Jones franchise is one of the most successful in history because they stuck with the formula. Ghostbusters 3 will be a flop in CGI no matter what story they write. They also need to keep the CGI special effects to a minimum. They don’t appear organic when used heavily, and they lose they’re believability. I think if they come up with a good enough story, Bill will do it. If he did, it could rival Indy 4 for #1 summer blockbuster.

As a fan since i was 3yrs old. iv always injoyed the ghostbusters movies, even the cartoon the real ghostbusters iv realy loved. even the toyys were awsome. now years later they want to come out with a ghostbusters 3 i say yes. I think it would the coolest thing to see, and i could take my little nephu to go and see. now this generation of kids my nephus or little cusins can share what wee loved as a kid growing up. I think it would be great. cant wait to see it. those of you that say no, dont buy the ticket to go see it.

It’s funny how back in college a little over 10 years ago I remember doing web searches trying to find information about a Ghosbusters 3 and now her I am today doing the same thing. Back then the big rumor was a group of younger, hipper Ghostbusters with Chris Farley and Chris Rock. I hope they make a 3rd. If it sucks who cares- it doesn’t take away from how good the original is.

I Have written a script for a third movie and have had it handy for a long while. I don’t think any animation movie of ghostbusters will give it any justice at all.
All I have to say is look at the recent TMNT movie they made, Yes the ninja turtles have stuck around for kids while the ghostbusters didn’t, but I havn’t met a ninja turtles fan that can even attempt to tell me that ninja turtles animated movie comes even close to the first 2 ninja turtles. what makes anyone think that ghostbusters will be any different?
I think it will ruin the name of ghostbusters unless they make a live action movie.

Well at least the Video Game is coming to Xbox 360. Got the Christmas issue of Xbox 360 Official Magazine and its the front cover… The graphics look great… and a movie clip of gameplay on youtube shows great physics and clumsey proton streams…. the game will be great because the cast are voicing it… and you use real proton streams and traps as opposed to the old Sega mega drive games.

WE WANT THE ORIGINAL TEAM !!!!! Sure, if you want to re-start the franchise at least do it with those who started it in the first place.
Then if anyone wants out on the next one, so be it.
If Bill REALLY dosen’t want to do this in Live-Action, then let him play his character as a ghost who follows the team around from job to job & sometimes helps them out.Can you imagine the sort of mischief He could get up to if, as Peter Venman, he was a ghost ???

it would be great to see a gb3 come out , but not by useing a comp. it is not the same. I’ve been waiting fore it to be made but i can not watch it if it is done by comp. it will not be good that way. I really hope it is made with real poeple . that way it is much better then i can watch one of my fav. movies.

I have been a huge Ghostbusters fan since I was 4 years old. I loved both movies and the cartoon. I think a 3rd movie would be great. I heard that its going to be all CGI. At first I was disappointed by this, but then I thought that maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Since Ghostbusters is fantasy then maybe it wouldn’t hurt to do something different for the third installment. If they can make the guys look exactly like Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson and have the actors voice them, the film just might be a winner. Since they’re older now and maybe not in the best shape, the CGI version might be the best thing to do. If they could do an animated 3rd Stuart Little movie, then maybe they could do the same for Ghostbusters 3.

Well at first I didn’t know what the Ghostbusters were, but now I know. I can’t beleve they are making the third movie computer animated, but I think they should have the Ghostbusters come out of retirement, like for example, Rocky he came out of retirement and it felt good for him. So they shouldn’t make Ghostbusters 3 computer animated they should just make it like the first two movies. I want Ghostbusters 3!

CGI IS LAME!!!! Without the three REAL actors, The only thing that is going to be busted is the fan base,the ghostbusters image, any hope for another film and last but not least Ghostbusters 4 the attack of POKEMON!!! Bustin used to make me feel good………. Now it makes me feel like I’m going to vomit!!!

OK, yes, CGI can’t hold a candle to the live action, but come, the f**k, on!! Have you seen bill murry, or dan aykroyd lately, explain what kinda movie magic could make them believable today? they’d look more ghoolish than the ghosts. But yes, if they screw the pooch on this one i’ll be the first gunning for ramis’ head.
