Video: Freddy Krueger Competes In 'Mortal Kombat'

Just when you thought it couldn't get any better than seeing Freddy Krueger fight Jason Voorhees, now you can control him fighting Scorpion, Sub Zero and Liu Kang. The Nightmare on Elm Street icon is the latest downloadable character in the new Mortal Kombat game and after the jump you can see the trailer for his appearance as well as two of his fatalities. Finish him!

Thanks to IGN twice (with a nod to JoBlo) for this content.

Here's Freddy's announcement trailer.

And here are his fatalities as well a resulting babality.

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with both Freddy Krueger and Mortal Kombat, so it's kind of surreal to see the two meshed together. Plus fans have never really gotten to kill people as Freddy. The NES Nightmare game had you playing as the kids trying to defeat Freddy. What fun is that? Freddy is the bad guy but he's also the best character. So to finally be able to play as him, and to use his knife glove to its fullest potential, gives me the kind of geekgasm usual reserved for Batman trailer releases.

Here are my minor issues though. One, it's the Nightmare reboot makeup. I think that makeup looks fine but I really wish they would have went with the iconic, less realistic look from the original films. Maybe it'll be skin that's available to purchase. Second is the dual gloves. It's certainly badass for Freddy to have two hands of knives but I think it would have been so much more rewarding to just have the one and then have him use it sparingly. Granted, Mortal Kombat has never been a game about realistic biology (though the bone breaking moves in this new game look sick) but if Freddy just had the one glove and only used it on special occasions, you would have gotten so much more pumped about it.

I need take a walk to calm down over my Freddy Mortal Kombat excitement. Am I the only one?
