This year, 20th Century Fox has three films set within the X-Men film universe heading into production. There’s the highly anticipated Deadpool 2 following up last year’s runaway R-rated hit, the X-Men spin-off The New Mutants from The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone, and the next installment of the primary mutant franchise, reportedly titled X-Men: Supernova, and likely directed by Simon Kinberg, who is also producing all of them.
Since Simon Kinberg is the common thread between all of these films, it should come as no surprise that he’s in the know regarding the development of each them. The producer is currently making the rounds promoting Logan (which he also produced), he’s been fielding a lot of questions about the future of the X-Men universe. Though he wasn’t able to give any major details away, he did confirm that 20th Century Fox is aiming to have both The New Mutants and Deadpool 2 in theaters in 2018. Read More »

There are days when the nonsensical continuity of the X-Men movies makes me want to throw my hands up in the air and move into the desert and stop writing about comic book movies and there are days where I just shrug it all off because I’ll always take interesting experiments like Logan, Legion, and Deadpool over a coherent universe. Today, I feel like the latter, so it’s just amusing that Nicholas Hoult, who has starred in three X-Men movies, is only pretty sure that he’s in the next film that’s supposed to begin production this year. It’s good to know that the actors, like audience members, also aren’t quite sure what’s going on.

Earlier this week, sources indicated that the cut of Logan all the critics saw over the weekend didn’t have a post-credits scene. However, a couple days after that, there was a change in the film’s runtime. 20th Century Fox updated the length of Logan so that it was about three minutes longer than the cut that screened for critics. Then came confirmation that the extension of the runtime was due to a post-credits scene being included, or so we thought.
The same source that previously confirmed the existence of a Logan credits scene has since rescinded that story. But in the same breath, they indicate that while those extra few minutes won’t be spent on a credits scene, fans will still get some kind of treat before the movie starts. Do you hear that? That’s the sound of the X-Men movie series getting its second wind. While X-Men: Apocalypse was a critical and financial disappointment, Deadpool proved that there was still plenty of life in the mutant superhero world. Logan looks like it will prove this further when it opens in a few weeks (the early reviews have been mostly raves). And that’s before we even talk about FX’s Legion series, which has been very intriguing so far. Audiences have made themselves clear: they love the X-Men, especially when they’re delivering something off the beaten path…which means it’s time for the core series to get with the program and try something different.
And is Simon Kinberg, a veteran writer and producer with a long history of working on the X-Men movies, the guy for the job? According to the latest rumors hitting the internet, he’s lining up to direct the next X-Men movie.

Details on the X-Men: Apocalypse sequel have been scant, but we should start to get some concrete details soon, at least if Sophie Turner is to be believed. The Game of Thrones actress, who played Jean Grey in Apocalypse, has confirmed the next X-Men movie will shoot sometime in 2017. Read More »
20th Century Fox has a lot of irons in the fire when it comes to their comic book movies. Deadpool 2 is on the way, following in the surprisingly successful footsteps of the first film, and there’s also New Mutants from director Josh Boone introducing a new team of young mutants to audiences. Beyond that, there’s the hope of a Deadpool and Wolverine crossover to follow Logan at some point. But what about the primary X-Men franchise?
Not too long ago, there was talk of some trouble behind the scenes at 20th Century Fox and rumors that there might be a soft reboot of the primary X-Men franchise. We still don’t know what’s happening on that front. But it appears that the title for the next sequel in the X-Men film series has been revealed, and it corroborates some previous details we had heard about the project.
