2019 WGA Awards Winners

Over the weekend, the Writers Guild of America handed out their annual awards honoring the best writing in film and television, and they’re definitely shaking things up in the final week before the Oscars.

While Roma has been the Oscar favorite for some time now, earning the Directors Guild of America’s top honors, Green Book walked away with the Producers Guild of America’s big trophy. Meanwhile Black Panther landed a Screen Actors Guild awards victory for ensemble cast, and the American Cinema Editors awarded both Bohemian Rhapsody and The Favourite. 2019 SAG Awards Winners

Awards season continues as we inch closer to the Academy Awards, and last night, an unlikely winner emerged to take home the top prize at the 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Marvel’s Black Panther walked away with the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, the SAG equivalent of Best Picture. The film beat out BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy Rich Asians and A Star Is Born. And that’s not even the only award that Black Panther took home. 2019 SAG Awards Nominations

This morning, the nominations for the 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced. This is the ceremony where Hollywood’s actors nominate their own, ultimately voting on the winners. This year’s roster features quite the diverse array of performances across film and television…and suggests who may be suiting up for the Oscars in a few months.

AFI awards 2018

The American Film Institute, the film school and film history organization famous for alumni like Darren Aronofsky, Patty Jenkins, Terrence Malick, and David Lynch, has announced the honorees of this year’s AFI Awards. The organization voted on ten movies and ten television series that are “artistically significant” and represent “the year’s most outstanding achievements in the art of the moving image”, and the winners include movies like If Beale Street Could Talk, BlacKkKlansman, Eighth Grade, and shows like Atlanta and Barry. American Crime Story Interview

Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson are executive producers on American Crime Story. After the captivating and award winning first season, The People Vs. O.J. Simpson, there were some hold-ups. The next season was supposed to be about Hurricane Katrina, followed by the Gianni Versace murder. The Assassination of Gianni Versace became the second season, but Hurricane Katrina is still up next. Then they are developing a season about the Linda Tripp and Monica Lewinsky sex scandals of President Bill Clinton.

/Film spoke with Jacobson and Simpson at an FX party for the Television Critics Association. They described how each season has a different tone and therefore needs a different writer, and what we can expect from future seasons.
