The Aeronauts Review

The Aeronauts is designed to dazzle, both visually and in terms of its time-hopping storytelling structure, yet its impact is as wispy as the air that its hot-air balloons soar through. In what feels like the umpteenth true-story drama of the 2019 awards season, The Aeronauts is a moderately handsome production without actually being dramatically involving. As often as the film takes to the air, its earthbound scenes are dry and dull, giving off the vague whiff of dramatic leftovers.

The Aeronauts Trailer

If you’re sick of Marvel movies delivering the same superhero action, just like Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola, then maybe you’ll take solace in the action and adventure of The Aeronauts, a new movie from Amazon Studios.

Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones star in The Aeronauts, which follows wealthy young widow Amelia Wren (Jones) and headstrong scientist James Glaisher (Redmayne) as they confront the elements and risk their lives in order to fly a hot air balloon higher than anyone has done before. But this isn’t just to set a record, it’s to determine whether or not the weather can be predicted. That might not sound very riveting, but the latest The Aeronauts trailer shows some rather suspenseful sequences. Read More »

the aeronauts trailer

The Theory of Everything‘s Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones reunite for The Aeronauts, a big, effects-driven adventure about two very British people who take to the skies. It might sound foolhardy, but don’t worry: it’s all in the name of science. The film is based loosely on a true story, but it’s really just an excuse to jostle Redmayne and Jones around against cool-looking backdrops. Watch The Aeronauts trailer below.

the aeronauts release

The winds have shifted, and Amazon’s big-ass hot air balloon movie The Aeornauts won’t be getting a traditional theatrical release after all. Amazon had originally planned for the Eddie Redmayne/Felicity Jones movie to float into cinemas like any other theatrical release in October, with a one-week IMAX-run thrown in to boot. But now,  you can expect The Aeornauts to have a short theatrical run in December, before dropping onto Amazon Prime Video quickly after. Amazon is likely reconsidering their traditional theatrical window after they spent a huge chunk of change for the Sundance hit Late Night, only to see the film flounder at the box office this summer.

The Aeronauts first look

Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne shared the screen in 2014’s The Theory of Everything, a quiet biopic about the life of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking. But now the two of them are joining forces again and taking to the skies for Amazon Studios’ The Aeronauts, another true-life story. This one concerns a pilot and a scientist who attempted to fly higher than anyone had before in an open-air balloon.

The Aeronauts first look photo has arrived, and it looks like Jones and Redmayne are taking a page from Tom Cruise’s playbook and doing their own wild set-pieces for this film, because the photo features the two actors floating 2,000 feet above the ground.
