the suicide squad cast storm reid

We still don’t know who Idris Elba is playing in James Gunn‘s Suicide Squad sequel The Suicide Squad. But here’s something we do know: his character has a daughter. A Wrinkle in Time actress Storm Reid has just joined The Suicide Squad cast as Elba’s daughter.

This certainly seems like a holdover from the original plan to have Elba play Deadshot, since Deadshot had a daughter in the first film. But after Elba was cast as Deadshot, it was then decided to have him play a different character, in case O.G. Deadshot Will Smith might want to return for future sequels.

Relive review

Remember the TV series Day Break? Probably not, because it only aired for one season back in 2006. It starred Taye Diggs as a detective stuck in a Groundhog Day situation, forced to experience the same day again and again until he solves the murder of an important public official. Jacob Aaron Estes’ new movie Relive feels like that show mixed with Frequency, the Dennis Quaid/Jim Caviezel movie in which father and son communicate across time.

Selma star David Oyelowo plays L.A.P.D. detective Jack Radcliff, whose family is mysteriously murdered in the first few minutes of the film. As he mourns their deaths, he receives a seemingly impossible phone call from his niece (A Wrinkle in Time’s Storm Reid) – she’s very much alive, and is somehow calling from a few days before the murders take place. So it’s up to Radcliff to put the pieces together and prevent their deaths before they happen. Read More »

a wrinkle in time early buzz

A Wrinkle in Time has a lot of expectations riding on it. It is Ava Duvernay‘s ambitious passion project, the first non-documentary feature film that the director has tackled since Selma won acclaim and awards love four years ago. It’s an adaptation of a beloved children’s fantasy novel by Madeleine L’Engle. It has a black lead actress (Storm Reid) in a piece of colorblind casting that differs from the novel. And it’s starring some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha Raw, Zach Galifianakis, and Chris Pine.

So, does A Wrinkle in Time live up to those expectations? Not quite.

The social media embargo for Duvernay’s Disney film has lifted, and reactions are mixed at best and pessimistic at worst. Formal reviews don’t drop until March 7 — two days before the film’s release — but a few people who attended the premiere shared their opinions on the science-fiction movie.

a wrinkle in time trailer

If Oprah tells you to “have faith in who you are,” you darn well better.

13-year-old Meg Murry (Storm Reid) is a bit of an unconventional hero to set off on a quest spanning time and space, but aided by her gifted little brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe), her best friend Calvin (Levi Miller), and a trio of strange celestial beings (Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling), she has no choice to rise to the occasion. The new trailer for A Wrinkle in Time charts Meg’s cautious hero’s journey from school troublemaker to galaxy-gallivanting savior of her missing father. And it’s all set to an empowering — and kind of cheesy — pop song.
