The Making of Jackass 3D

VBS TV has a great 15-minute long behind the scenes documentary on the making of Jackass 3D.

The franchise that most of the tv-watching world knows as “Jackass”—a crew of loveable, Teflon-coated miscreants consisting of Chris Pontius, Bam Margera, Wee Man, Steve-O, and Johnny Knoxville—began years ago when the group decided to document their gleefully destructive antics on camera. Spike Jonze and VBS take a peek behind the cameras on the set of the third Jackass film, Jackass 3D, and see what happens when the time-tested tradition of unhygienic pranksterism and camaraderie meet the technological mind-meld of three-dimensional film.

I kinda love the fact that Spike Jonze thinks that Jackass isn’t just entertainment but is really about science — guys doing insane science experiments which test their fear and pain. And it’s also interesting seeing how much work goes into filming these stunts, especially with the additional 3D technology required for this sequel.

POTD: Jackass, The Modern Day 3D Stooges

Vanity Fair has an article on Jackass 3D titled “The 3-D Stooges”, asserting that Johnny Knoxville, Steve O., and Bam Margera are a modern day version of The Three Stooges. They even did a photoshop to illustrate the point. Read the full article on View more from the photoshoot in one of those annoying slideshows.

Jackass 3 Announced!

Jackass star Steve-O let it slip today on the Howard Stern Show that a third Jackass movie is in the works. No, we’re not talking about the Jackass 2.5 direct-to-DVD movie which is coming out later this year. I’m talking about Jackass: Number Three.

“I was told to rest up for Jackass 3 which will start shooting in January,” said Steve-O.

So there you have it, yet another pre-strike film. The first two Jackass films came out in early fall (September/October), so I would assume they are shooting for a Fall 2008 release. But who knows.

Video Footage: Jackass 2.5 Secretly In Production

Jackass 2.5

When Jackass: Number Two was released theatrically, Johnny Knoxville was telling selected press that they still had plans to shoot more footage.

“There’s some stuff I’m still wanting to shoot, and we might shoot in November. It’s not for a three, it’s just because it’s something I really want to do, and I said I was gonna do it, and then I could not not do it.”

The Jackass guys claim to have over 40 minutes of deleted scenes from Number Two which are more than good enough to be featured in the first film.

“We do have 40 minutes of really good stuff that’s going to come out in some form and we’re going to shoot in November,” stated director Jeff Tremaine. “I know he’s not going to let us stop shooting, so something’s gonna happen. We’re not calling it Three, but you’ll see what we shoot somehow.”

But we’ve heard nothing since… Until now.

A spy sent us supposed footage from the Los Angeles set of Jackass 2.5, which is now being shot secretly. Check out the video footage after the jump.

Update: We have learned from Zack Lawrence that the Jackass crew is in fact currently shooting new stunts and segments for Jackass 2.5, which is currently scheduled to hit DVD this Christmas. Bam Margera apparently made an appearance on the Howard Stern Show earlier today, and let it slip that the Don Vito teeth pull which was shown in the television ads and movie trailer will be one of the cut segments featured on the all new release.
