Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, Paramount’s upcoming origin movie that hopes to relaunch the G.I. Joe franchise, evidently is taking inspiration from one of the world’s greatest film directors. Hey, might as well aim high, right?
Henry Golding, who plays the title character in the new film, explained in a new interview that audiences may spot some Japanese influences in Snake Eyes – including a specific type of sword-fighting style, as well as nods to the work of cinema legend Akira Kurosawa.

There has been an endless amount of shuffling of movie release dates this year thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. One of the bigger movies that was originally intended to arrive this fall was Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins from Paramount Pictures. Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins would have brought the Hasbro toy franchise back to the big screen this year for the first time in over six years. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic has forced Paramount Pictures to delay the movie from its fall release this year to an unknown date sometime in 2021. Paramount Pictures recently pushed back the release of both A Quiet Place Part II and Top Gun: Maverick, two anticipated sequels that already had their release dates delayed previously thanks to the coronavirus pandemic shutting down movie theaters around the world. Yet another G.I. Joe film is in development at Paramount, because evidently someone over there believes that this is still a major, bankable franchise.

Joe Origins kicked off production in Japan today with a special event overseas that revealed the film’s official logo and had some of the cast and crew partake in a special blessing ceremony at the Hie-Jinja Shrine in Tokyo, a historical Shinto site that has been around over 500 years.
