No one is better than Pixar at making grown-ups cry. They’re so good at it, in fact, that they don’t even necessarily need dialogue or a feature-length running time to bring on the sniffles. Sometimes, a few minutes of brightly colored animation is all it takes to get the eyes stinging with tears.
That was definitely the case for me with Sanjay’s Super Team, which premiered last fall in front of The Good Dinosaur. The seven-minute animation follows a boy whose Saturday morning cartoon-watching is interrupted when his father insists he join him in meditation. The boy is initially annoyed and bored, but some superpowered friends help him come to a better understanding of his father.
The premise is a simple one, but it sets up an intensely personal piece of work — it’s based on the real experiences of its director, Sanjay Patel — and it feels like one. In a new Sanjay’s Super Team featurette, Patel explains what the movie means to him, and shows us his father’s emotional reaction to the film. Watch it after the jump. Read More »
With a few exceptions, the animated shorts from Pixar Animation Studios are almost always a treat. The short that played before this summer’s Inside Out, Lava, was oddly loathed by some around the internet, despite being fairly harmless. Pixar’s next short, Sanjay’s Super Team, is attached to The Good Dinosaur, which comes out this fall. See a clip from the personal piece of animation after the jump.

The next computer animated short film from Pixar Animation Studios is Sanjay’s Super Team, which will be attached to The Good Dinosaur when that feature hits theaters on November 25th 2015.
Thursday at Comic Con, Pixar held a presentation called The Super Story Behind the Pixar Short Sanjay’s Super Team, which also served as the North American premiere of the short. After the jump you can find out what I thought about the film, and the backstory behind the film, which made me experience Sanjay’s Super Team on a level different from other shorts.

Pixar has two films in theaters in 2015, which really means the studio has four films: two features, and two shorts. November 25 sees the release of The Good Dinosaur, which will be preceded by the short Sanjay’s Super Team.
We’ve seen some concept art from the short (such as the image above), created by Pixar Animation Studios artist Sanjay Patel. Inspired by Patel’s own experience, the short features a boy who is more interested in cartoons than his family’s religious practices, but who ultimately envisions the Hindu gods Hanuman, Durga, and Vishnu, as a sort of Avengers-like super-team.
Now the first Sanjay’s Super Team images are out, and you can see them below. Read More »

Almost as exciting as the release of a new Pixar feature is the reveal of the new Pixar short that accompanies each feature. Coming with this fall’s The Good Dinosaur is Sanjay’s Super Team, a seven-minute work about a little boy coming to understand his father’s Hinduism. The first lovely bit of concept art from Sanjay’s Super Team has just been released, and you can check it out after the jump.
