Update: This past weekend, Sylvester Stallone posted a photo on Instagram with the hashtag #drago, which is yet another piece of confirmation that a member of the Drago family will be a character in Creed 2. Read our original article from July 5 below for speculation about how this might play out in the sequel.
Ever since Creed hit theaters in the fall of 2015, surprising us all with just how outstanding a spin-off of Rocky could be, fans have been wondering when/if a sequel would come together. Though MGM CEO Gary Barber once mentioned that he would like to get a Creed sequel together for release in November of this year, that’s certainly not happening. But that doesn’t mean the prospect of a sequel is dead altogether.
Sylvester Stallone has been taking to Instagram over the past couple of weeks with some interesting nostalgic posts that seem to hint at what’s in store for Creed 2. We know /Film is a movie website, but maybe you’ll forgive us for delving into the wide world of sports for a moment. After all, few moments have impacted culture worldwide like the 1985 exhibition boxing match between Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago. This event shook the sporting world to its core and rattled the foundation of international politics – the world was never the same after Drago hit the mat and Balboa stood triumphant. There’s little debate that the first Rocky is the best Rocky. To this day, Sylvester Stallone‘s Oscar-winning underdog story holds up because of its unpredictable nature and great, unique characters.
The bigger question is, what’s the most beloved film of the franchise? The one fans will watch time and time again no matter what else is on. For my money, that’s Rocky IV, the montage-mad 1985 film that pitted the Italian Stallion against the unstoppable Ivan Drago, played by Dolph Lundgren in his prime. Rocky IV is by far the cheesiest of the series (squeaking out a win over Rocky III by a close margin) but it’s so unabashedly ’80s, from the music to the Cold War narrative, that’s it’s hard not to enjoy.
Rocky IV has gotten some poster love in the past but Jason Edmiston‘s newest gem takes the cake. It perfectly represents the film’s over-the-top tone while also being just a damn good looking poster. Skuzzles will release the poster on Boxing Day, December 26, and /Film is proud to exclusively give you a glimpse at the gorgeous Rocky IV poster by Jason Edmiston. Read More »
