Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was one of the big winners out of Comic-Con 2016, with James Gunn’s upcoming sequel headlining Marvel Studios’ panel and going all-out with new footage and big revelations. At this point, it’s getting hard to believe that this group of characters were considered obscure just a few years ago. There are going to be kids growing up who hold the likes of Star-Lord and Drax in the same esteem as Spider-Man and Wolverine. That’s nuts.

You could feel the reverberations of Guardians of the Galaxy‘s success beyond Hall H, like at the Marvel Animation panel. Although the panel teased the new seasons of the company’s various shows and announced a new Hulk/Doctor Strange team-up movie, they also revealed a new series of animated shorts built around Rocket Raccoon and Groot. Do These Marvel Trademarks Hint at Future Films?


The MCU may be mapped out through 2028, but Kevin Feige isn’t always forthcoming about specific details on those plans. However, a recent raft of trademark applications from Marvel may offer a few clues.

Some of the trademarks, like Guardians of the Galaxy and Age of Ultron, have obvious connections to films we already know about. But others, like Strikeforce Morituri and Journey Into Mystery, could just be hinting at other projects to come. Speculate with us after the jump.

Guardians of the Galaxy Concept 5

With Iron Man 3 about to escape fully into the wild and Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Solider in various states of production, we’re moving closer to the point where things will be made clear about the studio’s next team movie, Guardians of the Galaxy. With Marvel’s other Phase Two movies being primarily sequels to established properties, Guardians stands as the biggest curiosity on the studio slate.

(Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man is also something of an unknown, but given that it features a human lead and that we’ve seen test footage, it isn’t as much of a question mark.)
