Hawaii May Host Predators

Part of the interesting story behind Predators is that Fox is reportedly letting Nimrod Antal, Robert Rodriguez and Troublemaker Studios have their way with the project. At Comic Con, Rodriguez said they were just going to hole up in Austin and make the movie their way. But we knew the film wouldn’t entirely be shot there, and one report suggests the film won’t be based entirely in the Texas Hill Country, as the production has been scouting jungles in Hawaii. That sounds more like a Predator movie, at least. Read More »

Nimrod Antal To Direct Predators

nimrod antal predators

A couple weeks back it was rumored that Nimrod Antal was the top name on the short list direct Predators for 20th Century Fox. Tonight, producer Robert Rodriguez has now confirmed to AICN that Antal is the filmmaker he has hand-picked to direct the film.

Nimrod Antal to Direct Predators?

There’s a new rumor about the Robert Rodriguez-produced Predators, according to Latino Review: supposedly Nimrod Antal is at the top of the list to direct the film. Which would actually be great news, if true. What, you don’t recognize the name? Read more after the jump. Read More »

Judging from some of the comments on his blog of late, it seems a distinct possibility that Michael J. Bassett is one of the “about seven” directors under discussion for the directing job on Predators. The comments were sniffed out by the good burghers of Quiet Earth, who surmised in them a connection to the Robert Rodriguez-produced sci-fi sequel. Bassett’s quotes after the break, as well as some details on the director.

Neil Marshall In Talks To Direct Predators?

Update: As expected AICN has contacted Robert Rodrigez for comment on this rumor, and according to Harry, “Neil Marshall is one of about 7 names that Robert is looking at and meeting with right now.” So it is not a done deal just yet.

Neil Marshall is close to signing on the dotted line to direct Predators for 20th Century Fox, according to Bloody Disgusting, who obviously have sources close to this production.

Marshall broke onto the scene with Dog Soldiers, but the horror film The Descent gained him more mainstream attention a couple years back. His follow-up last year, Doomsday, was a critical and financial disaster, but his new movie Centurion seems a bit more focused. Still, I’m not sure about the choice. I’m sure we’ll get a confirmation or denial real soon from AICN, as they have a direct line to Robert Rodriguez, who is producing the film at Troublemaker Studios.

Written by Alex Litvak, and based loosely on a treatment from years past penned by Rodrigeuz, the reboot is expected to expand on the universe of “both the Predators and other species live in.” Rodriguez has also said that he wants to “feel free to walk to the Predators soundstage, pick up a camera and co-shoot the coolest scenes,” but I really wonder if a filmmaker like Marshall would be comfortable with that kind of producer collaboration.

Discuss: Who do you want to see direct Predators? Is Marshall a good choice?

Arnold Schwarzenegger might not be part of the Robert Rodriguez-produced Predator reboot Predators after all. Or at very least, he hasn’t yet been asked.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Offered Role in Predators?

As you know, Robert Rodriguez is producing a reboot of the Predator movie franchise titled Predators for 20th Century Fox.  Moviehole has learned that Rodriguez has reached out to Arnold Schwarzenegger to be part of the movie, but the Governator has yet to respond.

But how could Arnold be involved if the film is a complete reboot? Well… apparently the movie might not be a complete reboot after all.

Alex Litvak Penning Predators

It doesn’t seem entirely unlikely that Robert Rodriguez‘s old Predators pitch was pulled out of the mothballs and dusted down simply because 20th Century Fox wanted something of its kind on the fast track. Just a couple of weeks after the first signs of life on the project and we already know when the film is going to hit the big screen (for those looking to mark their datebooks, that’s July 9, 2010 – but do use a pencil) though we don’t know who is going to be directing.

According to Bloody Disgusting, however, we can now also identify the screenwriter. They’ve scooped the news that Alex Litvak, co-author of the recently sold Medieval, is set up on Predators penmanship duty.

Robert Rodriguez Talks Predators

rodriguez grindhouse

I know what you’re thinking: “Not another blog post about Rodriguez’s new Predator movie?!” I said it so you don’t have to. Lets move on.

Robert Rodriguez sat down and answered some questions for AICN regarding the recently announced Predator reboot Predators. The filmmaker confirmed that 20th Century Fox co-president of production Alex Young became excited about a Predator reboot after discovering a Predator sequel treatment Rodriguez had written 15 years ago. It is unclear right now if the original treatment will be used as a basis for the film, but since that was why Rodriguez was brought on board to carry the project, I’d be surprised if they didn’t use some of the core ideas.

“What I’d like to do with it is expand on ideas I dreamt up back in the original treatment, that had really expanded on the universe both the Predators and other species live in. We’d create new otherworldly characters while not taking away from the draw our main Predator has.”
