Perhaps the first images from Pan weren’t quite what you expected, but we’re trusting in the guy who created a successful new fairy tale in Hanna to warp the Peter Pan story into a new shape that makes sense in the end. This Pan trailer shows a big, bright, and possibly strange take on the J.M. Barrie stories, seemingly with a story structure that doesn’t bother with a “Peter Pan in the real world” setup, but just goes straight for a fantasy tale. There’s a lot of light, pretty stuff here that positions this as a fluffy fantasy, but then there’s a shot of Hugh Jackman towards the end of the trailer that makes us wonder if this has something more dark in mind, too.
Joe Wright directs Levi Miller as Peter, and Jackman not as Hook, but as Blackbeard. Garrett Hedlund steps in as a young, romantically appealing version of Hook, with Rooney Mara playing Tiger Lily. Check out the Pan trailer below. (We’ve also got four Pan character posters, with Blackbeard’s showing that yes, that’s definitely meant to be a bad wig worn by the pirate.)

“This isn’t exactly the Neverland story you know.” That’s director Joe Wright‘s description of his Peter Pan origin story Pan, and so far he seems to be telling the truth. Case in point: the villainous pirate in this one is not Captain Hook but Blackbeard, played by Hugh Jackman.
The hero is still a little boy named Peter Pan, though, played by Levi Miller. Hit the jump to see the first Pan images featuring Jackman and Miller, plus the first Pan poster with Miller. Read More »

Briefly: After entering talks last month, Hugh Jackman has officially closed his deal to star in Joe Wright‘s Peter Pan
fanfiction origin tale Pan as Blackbeard. He’ll star opposite Garrett Hedlund, who is in talks to play Hook.
In the film, Blackbeard is the leader of evil pirate who have a hold on Neverland. The (as yet uncast) hero of the story is Peter, an orphan who leads a rebellion against Blackbeard’s forces. The role marks a rare villainous turn for Jackman, who is best known for playing the superhero Wolverine. Jackman landed the role after the more obvious first choice, Javier Bardem, passed. [Variety]
Briefly: The dark Peter Pan origin story Pan may have one of its main characters: Garrett Hedlund has been offered the role of Captain Hook. Joe Wright (Atonement, Hanna) is set to direct, with the film slated for a summer 2015 release.
But Hedlund won’t be the villain; the film starts off with Peter and the future Captain Hook as friends. Hook has a crew job on Blackbeard’s ship, and the Jason Fuchs script features Blackbeard as the villain. Hugh Jackman has been linked to the Blackbeard role, but there’s no Pan yet. [THR]

The summer of 2015 just got a tiny bit less crowded. Variety reports that Warner Bros. has just pushed the Man of Steel sequel from July 17, 2015 to May 6, 2016. The new date pits the Zack Snyder-helmed film directly against an as-yet-unnamed Marvel Studios project, though in all likelihood one or the other will move before then.
Joe Wright‘s Peter Pan origin tale will now move into the July 17, 2015 slot, having previously been slotted for June 26, 2015. More, including the official press release from Warner Bros., after the jump.

Most year-end best-of lists consist of things that have already been produced, released, and consumed. But the Black List stands apart in that it’s all about the films that haven’t come out yet. Created by Franklin Leonard and Dino Sijamic, the annual compilation shines a light on the “most liked” unproduced screenplays of each year, as voted on by hundreds of Hollywood executives.
Not all of these films will get made, let alone made well, but the Black List still serves as a good indication of what projects are being buzzed about. Last year’s list included Transcendence and Rodham; Django Unchained and Saving Mr. Banks were among the highlights the year before that. Three out of the last five Best Picture winners were Black List scripts, as were seven of the past twelve screenwriting Oscar winners. Hit the jump to read titles and descriptions for the 72 that made the cut this year.
