Never Have I Ever season 2 photos

Netflix has released a batch of Never Have I Ever season 2 photos, along with the release date for the comedy’s upcoming second season and news that Common (John Wick: Chapter 2) has joined the cast.

The Mindy Kaling-created series is one of the best original shows Netflix has ever created: it’s heartwarming, specific, relatable, sad, and super funny. I’ve been looking forward to the second season from the moment I finished binging the first season last April, and now we know the new batch of episodes will drop this summer. Check out the new photos below. Read More »

2020 entertainment

We’re going to be spending the next couple of weeks thinking and writing and podcasting about our favorite movies and movie moments of 2020, but I wanted to give a special shout-out to a handful of pieces of non-movie entertainment that kept me going through the hell-year that was 2020. For me, these podcasts and TV shows were like faint lights in a dense fog, guiding me forward and serving as brief oases before I lurched back into the swirling chaos of 2020. If you’re looking for a way to end this hellacious year on a high note, I encourage you to seek out any (or all) of these recommendations.

(Welcome to The Quarantine Stream, a new series where the /Film team shares what they’ve been watching while social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.)

The Series: Never Have I Ever

Where You Can Stream It: Netflix

The Pitch: Loosely inspired by creator Mindy Kaling‘s childhood growing up in a Massachusetts suburb, Never Have I Ever is a high school romantic-comedy that follows cocky 15-year-old Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) as she recovers from her father’s death and an unexplained bout of paralysis by chasing after the hottest boy at school.

Why It’s Essential Quarantine Viewing: A young woman shoves down her expanding feelings of grief by throwing herself into a series of bad life decisions that alienate the people around her, while navigating a fractured family dynamic. But enough about Fleabag. Yes, the comparisons between Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s raunchy, incisive Emmy-winning series and Mindy Kaling’s high school coming-of-age comedy may seem odd, but just like FleabagNever Have I Ever is an unexpectedly heart-wrenching delight. Kaling’s best TV series yet, Never Have I Ever is a disarmingly sincere exploration of grief and a snapshot of the immigrant experience nestled within a sweet, hysterical teen rom-com.

never have i ever trailer

Never have we ever seen a Netflix teen comedy so full of that Mindy Kaling brand of cringe comedy. Netflix has released the official Never Have I Ever trailer for the comedy series created by Kaling and based on the actress/writer’s childhood growing up in suburban Massachusetts. Newcomer Maitreyi Ramakrishnan shines as Devi, a fictionalized version of Kaling who is just as horny as the real-life actress. Which is good, since the trailer promises us some “steamy teen romance.”

never have i ever trailer

Mindy Kaling has ruled the romantic-comedy TV landscape lately, with her acclaimed Four Weddings and a Funeral reboot, which followed her fun but uneven comedy series The Mindy Project. But now she’s tackling girlhood, and all the ups and downs that come with it, in the Netflix comedy series Never Have I Ever. More specifically, her own girlhood, as an Indian-American teen growing up in suburban Massachusetts. Newcomer Maitreyi Ramakrishnan plays Devi, a fictionalized version of Kaling, who introduces herself to her family’s altar of Hindu gods (and to us) in the first Never Have I Ever teaser.
