Amazon May Stop Making Their Pilots Public

amazon pilots

More often than not, TV show pilots aren’t made available to the public until the show has been picked up as a series. But Amazon has bucked tradition and taken to uploading their completed pilots to Amazon Prime Video for everyone to see. This enabled audiences to provide feedback into which pilots they might want to see nab a full series order. But those days may be numbered. Amazon is now considering nixing that idea entirely, and hiding their pilots away the way a miser hides his riches. The era of Amazon pilots might be over.

Amazon Orders ‘The Man in the High Castle’ Series

The Man in the High Castle series

The pilot for Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle deviated in several major respects from Philip K. Dick‘s original novel — about an alternate timeline in which Germany and Japan won WWII, and occupy divided United States territory — but it’s a good hour of television, and a very promising start to the series. Mozart in the Jungle trailer

The current season of Amazon original shows offers up another debut series later this month, when Mozart in the Jungle begins streaming on Amazon Prime. Rodrigo has a nonconformist style and a demanding approach to conducting… and he also seems to have conversations with Mozart. There’s more than that — some sex, some power struggles, and potential new personalities as Rodrigo cleans house in the orchestra — all of which is shown to some degree in this Mozart in the Jungle trailer. New Chris Carter Show

Earlier this year Amazon posted a new round of ten pilots, offering viewers the chance to check them all out before voting on ones they liked best. Five of the pilots were aimed at kids, with the other five geared towards adults. Now four of the five “adult” shows have been ordered to series. Two are particularly notable: the new Chris Carter show The After, and Transparent, in which Jeffrey Tambor plays a father who reveals a truth about his own life, and in so doing really changes the family dynamic.

Also getting orders are Bosch, and Mozart in the Jungle. Details on each is below. Read More »
