Well, it’s not nearly as good as Peter Weir going back to Master and Commander, but at least someone at Fox is interested in making a nautical thriller. Kind of. Tony Scott has signed to work with Fox once again as producer and director on a drug-running sub thriller called — seriously, this part isn’t a joke — Narco Sub. The title would seem to refer to crafts — once only semi-submersible but now fully submersible — that South American drug cartels sometimes use to smuggle cocaine into the United States. Colombian drug runners seem particularly fond of the little craft, which are adept at evading radar and sonar.
The script is by new hot screenwriter David Guggenheim, and the project overall is described as being reminiscent of films like Man on Fire and Crimson Tide. Read More »
Danny Huston will join Nicolas Cage in the Taken-like action thriller Medallion. The film has Nic Cage as a thief whose daughter is abducted and shoved in the trunk of a NYC cab. With help from another thief who is also his ex-girlfriend (Malin Akerman) the guy faces a ticking clock if he wants to rescue his girl.
Simon West directs, from a script by David Guggenheim and the film is just about to shoot in New Orleans. We don’t yet know Danny Huston’s role. [The Playlist]

Nicolas Cage has found a real partner in crime at Nu Image / Millennium films (or maybe it is the other way around) and the next film from the actor and mini-studio is the Taken-style action thriller Medallion, to be directed by Con Air helmer Simon West.
While the folks at the studio seem to want Amber Heard to be a part of their regular cult cast, too, it looks like Red Sonja, also with Simon West directing, might be the company’s next chance to put her to work. Nic Cage’s Medallion co-star will be Malin Akerman instead. Read More »
