It’s always exciting when filmmakers test the waters in different mediums, especially the medium of video games. Video games are becoming increasingly cinematic, so much so that the lines are being blurred and you’ve got film websites reviewing games. So when a filmmaker makes the leap to video games, it’s not that much of a leap.
Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts is the latest to make that leap, with a new CG spot for the Marvel’s Avengers video game, the new action role-playing brawler video game co-developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix. Marvel’s Avengers won’t be hitting video game consoles until September 4, but the beta gameplay is underway right now. That means players have already heard the game’s score composed by Bobby Tahouri, and soon it will be available as a vinyl soundtrack release by Mondo, including artwork by Phantom City Creative. While we’re waiting to see when the next assembly of The Avengers might be on the big screen, fans have been eagerly awaiting their team-up at home on video game consoles. Last summer brought the first trailer for Marvel’s Avengers, a new game from that let’s players control Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and Black Widow in a massive action adventure. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has come to a turning point in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel video games are trying to take things to the next level. Next year will see the release of two new games – Iron Man VR and Marvel’s Avengers – and new trailers for each of them debuted over the weekend during New York Comic Con.
In Iron Man VR, players step inside Tony Stark’s suit and face off against Ghost (whom you may remember as one of the antagonists in Ant-Man and the Wasp), and in Marvel’s Avengers, you’ll be able to play as Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel. Check out some new gameplay footage below.
