The new Deadpool 2 trailer arrived this morning, and unlike the previous teases for the sequel from 20th Century Fox, it doesn’t feature any meta bookends or silly gags to open the footage. Instead, this is just a good old-fashioned movie trailer with nothing but scenes from the movie itself.
Since the Deadpool 2 trailer is so chock full of footage, that means we get a good glimpse at several new characters who were only very briefly seen in the previous trailers, not to mention one new character that we’ve never seen before. Terry Crews, Bill Skarsgård, Shioli Kutsuna and Julian Dennison are all prominently featured in the trailer, but who are they playing? Let’s figure it out below. Read More »
Julian Dennison didn’t choose the superhero life, the superhero life chose him.
Or rather, that’s how I like to think negotiations went down when the breakout star from Hunt for the Wilderpeople was announced to join the cast of Deadpool 2 — via a very fitting Instagram photo from Ryan Reynolds depicting the diminutive Dennison being given a piggy back ride by Deadpool.

Not only was What We Do In The Shadows one of my favorite films of 2015, it shocked us all by coming in at #2 on the list of the best movies of the year put together by all of us here at /Film. Right now the film’s director, Taika Waititi, is busy in Australia behind the camera for Thor: Ragnarok, the third film in the Marvel Studios franchise. But before he went into superhero territory, Waititi went back to New Zealand for an indie adventure comedy that debuted at Sundance this year and is now readily available for you to watch.
Hunt for the Wilderpeople arrives on Blu-ray and DVD next week, but you can actually buy it on Digital HD right now if you were so inclined. And honestly, it could be the best decision you make this month, or even next month. The film takes the character dynamic of Up and tosses it into the brush of New Zealand with adorable hilarity that only Taika Waititi can deliver. If you need any more convincing, you can watch the first 10 minutes of Hunt for the Wilderpeople after the jump. Read More »

Note: With Hunt for the Wilderpeople in limited release this weekend, we’re re-running our review from the Sundance Film Festival.
Taika Waititi had a minor breakthrough last year with What We Do in the Shadows, and is about to have a much bigger one with Thor: Ragnarok, but in between he’s managed to squeeze in the delightful Hunt for the Wilderpeople. A sort of live-action Up with dashes of Roald Dahl, Wes Anderson, and Thelma & Louise, all filtered through Waititi’s own warm, offbeat sense of humor, Wilderpeople looks destined to become a new childhood classic. After premiering at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, the adventure comedy Hunt for the Wilderpeople is coming to theaters this summer. The film hails from What We Do in the Shadows director Taika Waititi, and since the vampire mockumentary was one of /Film’s collective favorite films of 2015, it should come as no surprise that those of us who saw Hunt for the Wilderpeople at Sundance absolutely love it. And those who haven’t seen it yet, can’t wait to check it out.
A new Hunt for the Wilderpeople trailer has just debuted, and it shows off just enough of the hilarious manhunt that takes Sam Neill and breakthrough child actor Julian Dennison through the woods of New Zealand. This is an indie you simply must seek out this summer. Read More »
One of the hit premieres out of the 2016 Sundance Film Festival this year was New Zealand’s comedy Hunt for the Wilderpeople. The film comes from What We Do in the Shadows director Taika Waititi, who is preparing to make the jump to big budget filmmaking with Thor: Ragnarok at Marvel Studios, and his latest film proves why he’s one of the best and brightest filmmakers working today.
Sam Neill plays a grumpy old man who ends up stuck with a chubby little orphan named Ricky Baker (Julian Dennison in a breakthrough performance) after his sweet wife passes away, just when the young lad was starting to feel at home in the middle of nowhere. But the two unlikely family members end up on the run together from the law when Ricky decides he doesn’t want to go back to child services and some miscommunication pegs his foster uncle as a kidnapper. What ensues is a hilarious trip through the wilderness that is just as heartwarming as it is raucously funny.
