Bumblebee Featurette

Last week brought the first teaser trailer for the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee. The film focuses on the vocally-challenged, signature yellow Autobot who has been a cornerstone of the entire franchise right alongside Optimus Prime. Now, Bumblebee finds himself on his own in what is something of an origin story for the character as he goes on an adventure that happens decades before the first installment of the Transformers movies.

A new Bumblebee featurette has arrived with a focus on director Travis Knight, the man who has done wonders with stop-motion animation at LAIKA. After directing Kubo and the Two Strings and having his hand in LAIKA’s other projects such as Coraline and ParaNorman, Knight hopes to bring some of that mesmerizing storytelling to the Transformers universe. Project X Movie

Here’s something with a heck of a lot of potential: legendary action star Jackie Chan and wrestler-turned-surprisingly-funny-actor John Cena are teaming for a new action-thriller called Project X. Cena is replacing Sylvester Stallone, who was originally set to co-star with Chan. The film focuses on an attempt to extract oil workers from “a China-run oil refinery in the Middle East.”

The Janson Directive

Large men Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena are teaming for an adaptation of Robert Ludlum’s The Janson Directive. Sort of. Johnson was originally going to star in the film, but his busy schedule has gotten in the way. Now, Cena will fill the part Johnson has vacated while Johnson serves as executive producer.

Remember Duke Nukem? The video game in which a muscle-bound bro fights aliens with a rotating arsenal of weapons, occasionally stopping to quote They Live and Army of Darkness? Well, now that Hollywood has officially run out of ideas, they’ve decided to turn it into a movie, and they want wrestler and baggy suit enthusiast John Cena to play the part. Groovy.

Blockers trailer

I like Ike Barinholtz, Leslie Mann, and John Cena. I think they’re all underrated, talented performers, and ever since seeing Barinholtz work his magic as a charmingly weird supporting character in The Mindy Project, I’ve been pulling for him to lock down some more starring roles in big studio comedies. But after watching this new trailer for Universal’s new movie Blockers, in which the three actors play parents who team up to sabotage their daughters’ pact to lose their virginity on prom night, I feel like Switch from The Matrix: “Not like this…not like this.”

Ferdinand trailer

In the wake of trailers like Peter Rabbit and Sherlock Gnomes that dropped earlier today, 2oth Century Fox and Blue Sky Animation’s upcoming movie Ferdinand looks almost pleasant. Sure, there are the butt jokes that seem to be a requirement in all non-Disney or Pixar animated kids films these days, and yes, things get a bit too on the nose when the titular bull (voiced by John Cena) ends up in – you guessed it – a china shop, but all things considered, this could be a whole lot worse. Check out a new international Ferdinand trailer and a new clip below.

blockers trailer

In the footsteps of other raunchy coming-of-age comedies like Superbad and American Pie where teens just want to have a lot of sex comes Blockers, a movie about three parents who will stop at nothing to sabotage their daughters’ sex lives.

Starring John Cena, Leslie Mann, and Ike Barinholtz as the traditionally-minded parents who discover their daughters’ prom night “sex pact,” Blockers is exactly what you’d expect out of a movie about teenage girls written by five dudes.

John Cena and Kumail Nanjiani Movie

The success of a buddy cop movie not only hinges on a good script (as all movies do), but on the strength of the duo at the center of the movie. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon, Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider in The French Connection, and Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell in Tango & Cash are all prime examples of fantastic partners in justice. But putting two partners together can be infinitely more difficult when comedy is involved, and now a new duo will be put to the test.

Universal Pictures has picked up an untitled buddy cop comedy from the mind of Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer, one that will have wrestler turned actor John Cena teaming up with Silicon Valley co-star Kumail Nanjiani. Read More »
