The upcoming action comedy Free Guy is built around a wild high-concept premise: what if an ordinary person living in a chaotic world learned that their reality was a video game and they were simply a background character within it? And what if that outrageous concept was really a metaphor about taking control of your existence and learning to connect with others?

That was the key takeaway during an online press conference for the film, where director Shawn Levy, stars Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer, and several others all assembled over Zoom to talk about the movie. Here are the key takeaways.

Free Guy clip

Free Guy, the film in which Ryan Reynolds plays an NPC living in a violent video game world, was among the many movies that Disney shuffled around on the release calendar today due to the coronavirus pandemic. The movie, which was initially supposed to arrive this July, will now hit theaters on December 11, 2020. To make that delay a little more bearable, Reynolds shared a clip from the film on his YouTube page of his character sitting inside his apartment as the outside world goes absolutely insane around him. Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker resistance fleet

Since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is wrapping up the Skywalker saga, it’s pretty much the last time for some key characters to make a significant appearance in the long-running sci-fi saga. And since it’s the end of an era in a galaxy far, far away, there are plenty of people who wanted to get in on the last chapter of the story that began all the way back in 1977.

That’s why there are plenty of cameos to behold in The Rise of Skywalker, some in the form of new characters, others being characters from previous installments of Star Wars. We’ve got a list of all the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker cameos that we know of so far, but beware of major spoilers as we name them. Read More »

Killing Eve season 2

Season 3 of BBC America’s hit drama Killing Eve hasn’t even premiered yet, but the network is so confident in the series that it has already ordered a fourth season. “How could we not have massive confidence in Killing Eve?” said Sarah Barnett, the president of AMC Networks Entertainment Group. “It has won big in every major award show and is the highest growing show on U.S. television for six years.” When any show is able to break through the noise of the Peak TV era in such an impressive way, another season renewal seems like a proper response.

free guy new york comic-con 2019

It was a dark and stormy day in New York City, the perfect day for brightly costumed superheroes to come out in droves and crowd the New York streets and subways. But there’s one superhero that stands apart from the rest. He’s a guy simply named Guy, and he’s not actually the hero of the story. An NPC (non-playable character) in a video game, Guy is a simple-minded bank teller played by Ryan Reynolds and the unwitting protagonist of the upcoming Shawn Levy-directed action-comedy Free Guy.

At 2019’s New York Comic-Con, the 20th Century Fox panel rolled out the red carpet for Reynolds and Levy, as well as the all-star cast that includes Taika Waititi, Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), and Utkarsh Ambudkar (Pitch Perfect). Here’s everything that /Film learned at the Free Guy New York Comic-Con 2019 panel.

the last duel cast

Fresh off her Emmy win for her tour-de-force performance in Killing Eve, Jodie Comer is setting her sights on her next big project. And on paper, her next project is a doozy. Comer is in talks to work with some of the biggest names in Hollywood in the Ridley Scott film The Last Duel, based on the real events of the last officially sanctioned duel in 14th century France. Comer will be starring opposite Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, but her role might be cause for concern: she is in talks to play the wife whose sexual assault leads to a former soldier appealing the king to grant a duel to the death.

Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer and Jodie Comer already have parts, and now Black Panther breakout Letitia Wright has climbed aboard the Death on the Nile cast as well. Wright will play one of the suspects Branagh’s Hercule Poirot is investigating.
