The Rental is a relationship drama that suddenly turns into a slasher movie. It probably shouldn’t work, and yet, director Dave Franco finds a way to strike the right balance. As we grow more and more caught up in the drama surrounding two couples, the tension builds. We’re waiting for the shoe to drop, and for some terrible mistake to trigger a catastrophe. And just when the sticky romantic situations involving the couples have built to a fever pitch, out comes a silent, masked killer wielding a bloody hammer.

Dave Franco makes his directorial debut with The Rental, an indie horror-thriller starring Alison Brie, Dan Stevens, Sheila Vand, and Jeremy Allen White. The cast places two couples who venture to a gorgeous oceanside house for a weekend getaway only to get more than they bargained for, and then some. Bad Turn Worse trailer

This new trailer for Bad Turn Worse opens with a reference to crime fiction writer Jim Thompson, and the reference to the guy who wrote The Getaway and The Killer Inside Me sets the tone for a story that indeed seems to go deep into dark territory. There are a few kids (Jeremy Allen White, Logan Huffman, and Mackenzie Davis) and one very bad man played with grinning malice by Mark Pellegrino.
