Did the world really need a Poltergeist remake? Probably not, but since we’re getting one anyway, we’re just relieved this new version doesn’t look half bad.

“They’re heeeeeeere.” Those pesky ghosts who speak to a little girl through a TV are back in the first trailer for Gil Kenan‘s Poltergeist. Based on the classic 1982 horror film by Tobe Hooper and Steven Spielberg, this time the Monster House director has teamed up with producer Sam Raimi to scare a whole new generation in 3D.
Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt are the unsuspecting parents of a family newly settled in the haunted house that takes their kid. They ask for help from a famous ghost hunter, played by Jared Harris in this version. The film hits theaters July 24. You can watch the first, frightening Poltergeist trailer here.
UPDATE: We’ve added a second, different International trailer. Read More »
The original Poltergeist was at the beginning of a ratings controversy that ended up creating the PG-13 rating, as the intense film went out as a PG movie. Now the remake, which is set for release next summer, is evidently way too hardcore for a PG. The 2015 Poltergeist is rated PG-13. Read More »
A second trailer for the Hammer Films horror film The Quiet Ones is now online. The film is based on a true story of a university professor (Jared Harris) who recruited some students (such as Sam Claflin) to help him conduct a series of experiments on a young girl (Olivia Cooke) who is possessed by a demon. Directed and co-written by John Pogue, The Quiet Ones is scheduled for release April 25.
Compared to the first Quiet Ones trailer, this one is shorter, punchier and incredibly effective. Check it out below. Read More »

You’d think that, after spending 2013 fending off experienced killers in a dystopian future, Sam Claflin would be hard to scare. But in the first trailer for this year’s The Quiet Ones, he looks more terrified than ever.
The Hammer Films production features the Hunger Games actor as a university student in 1974 who participates in a creepy experiment to turn a disturbed young woman (Olivia Cooke) into a poltergeist. As you’d predict, it all goes terribly awry. Also as you’d predict, the film purports to be based on a true story. Hit the jump to see the first trailer.

At this point you probably have a pretty good handle on the style of a Paul WS Anderson movie — he turns out one b-movie after another that use affordable effects, attractive stars and genre concepts to lure in audiences. And the audiences always seem to show up, making Anderson one of the more reliable directors from a business perspective.
Here, he changes things up a bit for Pompeii. The attractive cast is there (Kit Harinton, Carrie-Anne Moss, Emily Browning, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Paz Vega) as are the big digital effects and gritty but pretty violence. But there’s also a real historic backdrop — the destruction of the ancient city of Pompeii after the explosion of the volcano Vesuvius — giving the story a real weight. Will it work? Get some idea via the new trailer below. Read More »
Cool Posts From Around the Web:
Mad Men and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows star Jared Harris has just been cast in Gil Kenan‘s upcoming remake of Poltergeist. That piece of information has two deeper layers of meaning. First, it’s a good week to be Jared Harris. The actor was also just cast in Guy Ritchie’s The Man of U.N.C.L.E. Second, Harris is playing the host of a fictional TV show called Haunted House Cleaners, which shows a pretty major deviation from Tobe Hooper’s original film.
Nicholas Braun, who appeared in Red State, is also in talks to join the film along with co-star of The Following, Kyle Catlett. Rosemarie DeWitt and Sam Rockwell will star.
