2021 Independent Spirit Awards Nominations

The 2021 Independent Spirit Awards nominations have been announced. Along with honoring the best that independent cinema has to offer, this year’s Indie Spirit Awards have also introduced a television category, with several awards being handed out for the small screen.

On the feature film side of things, Never Rarely Sometimes Always came out on top with seven total nominations across all categories. Coming up right behind it is the American family drama Minari with six nominations, followed by Nomadland and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, each scoring five nominations overall. 2018 Independent Spirit Awards Winners - Get Out

With the Oscars just around the corner, it’s almost time to wrap up awards season. But before Hollywood has its biggest night, the Independent Spirit Awards always take the time to honor some of the smaller, indie movies. In this case, some of these movies have already made quite a run during awards season, were distributed by a major studio and ended up with a bunch of Oscar nominations, but they were also independently financed.

The 2018 Independent Spirit Awards winners were announced Saturday night, and Get Out came away with the big prize for Best Feature. In addition, Jordan Peele won Best Director. 2016 Independent Spirit Awards Winners

On Saturday evening, Film Independent revealed the winners for the 2016 Indie Spirit Awards, the much cooler cousin that everyone wishes the Oscars would take some notes from for future reference. Much like last year, one of the Best Picture nominees for the Academy Awards ended up taking the top prize with Spotlight winning Best Feature, not to mention a prize for the film’s director Tom McCarthy, who also got a prize along with Josh Singer for the film’s script. Could that be good news for some Oscar love tomorrow night? Only time will tell.
