We’re well past the midpoint of the year, and we’ve already delivered our list of the Top 10 Films of 2015 So Far. And as we reach the end of the summer, the movie business starts slowing down, giving a little calm before the storm that is awards season. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t still tons of movies to look forward to before the end of the year.
That’s why we’ve collected a list of 30 Movies to Be Excited for Before the End of 2015. And since there are so many great movies coming up before the end of the year, this is the Blockbuster and Studio Edition of the list, and next week we’ll deliver a completely different list for independent movies. But until then, here’s a list of movies we think you won’t want to miss over the next four months. Read More »
Mountain climbing on its own can be quite a dangerous activity, but it gets infinitely worse when you decide to climb the highest mountain on the planet. And that’s made abundantly clear in a new international trailer for Everest.
The mountain-climbing drama takes an impressive ensemble cast that includes Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal and hikes them up Mount Everest, which sits at the cruising altitude of a 747 according to the trailer. However, it’s not getting to Everest that proves to be the more dangerous part. It’s getting home.

This fall brings the terrifying elements of the highest mountain on the planet to the big screen in the mountain climbing drama Everest starring Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Jake Gyllenhaal and more.
While it would be easy to shoot an entire film like this on a sound stage and use visual effects to complete the scenery, director Baltasar Kormakur (2 Guns, Contraband) wanted the cast to experience the elements firsthand by shooting on location in Nepal on the foothills of Everest, as well as the Italian Alps. Now an Everest featurette shows what that was like for the stars of the film, and you can watch it below. Read More »
We’ve reached the end of a very busy week. There were tons of trailers and some pretty big news stories, so this is a pretty beefy edition of the Best Stories of the Week.
Recapping the news from the past seven days, you’ll find updates on the future of Marvel Studios‘ television side and Samuel L. Jackson in the cinematic universe, some rumors about the future of Star Wars and details on the past of a certain iconic character from the saga, a first look at The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, new writers for the Transformers franchise and future universe and more.
Plus, there’s trailers for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Steven Spielberg’s Bride of Spies, Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, and a double dose of Jake Gyllenhaal in Southpaw and Everest, and that’s not even half of the (mostly) great, new trailers we saw this week. Catch up on the Best Stories of the Week after the jump! Read More »
Featuring one of the most impressive casts of the year, director Baltasar Kormákur is ready to take audiences to one of the most frightening and mythic places on the globe: Everest. The new film, which stars Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson and Jake Gyllenhaal, opens September 18.
Based on true events, Everest tells the story two teams attempt to reach the summit of the mountain in one of the most violent snowstorms ever recorded. Kormákur shot the film in real conditions and IMAX 3D to give the viewer an experience almost as harrowing as the real people. Did he succeed? Check out the first Everest trailer below. Read More »
I just got home from Las Vegas, where for the last week I had attended the CinemaCon convention (formerly ShoWest), the largest gathering of movie theatre exhibitors each year.
Thursday afternoon we saw a presentation from Universal Pictures showcasing some of their big upcoming films including Jurassic World, Everest, Crimson Peak and The Secret Life of Pets and more. In previous years Universal has come to CinemaCon with a ton of footage from their line-up up to a year and a half in advance, this year’s presentation in comparison was disappointing. After the presentation I recorded a spoiler free Universal Pictures CinemaCon reaction video reaction with Steve from Collider, which you can watch that now embedded after the jump.
