Final A Quiet Place Part II Trailer

It’s been over a year since A Quiet Place Part II was meant to hit theaters. But not unlike the premise of the movie itself, a terrible disaster shut the world down and sent us all into hiding, leaving the movie waiting to be released. Thankfully, the wait is almost over, and if the latest A Quiet Place Part II trailer is any indicator, this will be a fantastic way to return to the movies this month. Read More »

Invincible Voice Cast

Amazon Prime is turning the Skybound/Image comic book series Invincible by Robert Kirkman into an animated series that will arrive next year. Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead) stars as 17-year old Mark Grayson, who just so happens to be the son of the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). As he begins to discover his own superpowers, he learns that his father may not be the clean-cut superhero that he seems to be.

The first Invincible trailer arrived earlier this year along with an impressive roster of voice talent. But not all of the cast members had been revealed, because Brazil’s 2020 CCXP virtual convention revealed a handful of new cast members, including Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption), Djimon Hounsou (Gladiator) and more. Check out the full Invincible voice cast and find out who they’re playing below. Read More »

African History Y

American History X director Tony Kaye has another piece of history coming our way – African History Y. Specific details about the film are still under wraps, but we now know the project twill star Djimon Hounsou. Kaye had a notoriously difficult time making American History X, clashing with star Edward Norton as well as studio New Line Cinema. The filmmaker tried taking his name over the final film, but was denied his request by the DGA. Instead, he disowned the project, calling it a “total abuse of creativity.” He’s bound to have better luck this time, though…right?

the king's man new york comic-con 2019

Matthew Vaughn is no stranger to taking a beloved property and crafting a fresh, energetic origin story out of it. But this time, with The King’s Man, he gets to do it to his own movies. Vaughn’s Kingsman films, loosely based off of Mark Millar’s comic books, followed a fictional secret service organization that presented a hyperviolent twist on the concept of the gentleman spy. With his upcoming action spy film, The King’s Man, Vaughn gets to explore the origins of that secret service organization while paying homage to classic cinema.

Vaughn took the stage at 20th Century Fox’s New York Comic-Con panel Thursday with the stars of his upcoming film The King’s ManRalph Fiennes, Harris Dickinson, and Djimon Hounsou. Here’s what we learned at The King’s Man New York Comic-Con 2019 panel.

Djimon Hounsou as Korath

Djimon Hounsou returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain Marvel, reprising his role as Korath. You might remember we last saw Korath in Guardians of the Galaxy as a subordinate of Ronan the Accuser who travels to the planet Morag to retrieve an Orb that has been stolen by Star-Lord. While the character was killed in that film, a younger version of Korath will appear in this MCU prequel. Before he joined Ronan, ’90s-era Korath was a member of Starforce alongside Carol Danvers.

On the Los Angeles set of the film, we sat down and talked with Hounsou about Korath’s role in this film, his function in Star Force, his relationship with Carol Danvers, comparing the film to James Gunn’s work, and more.

serenity review

A certain level of worship has grown around the movie “twist.” Career-ending contracts have been signed, backs bent, people probably (not really) thrown in movie jail for committing the worst sin a film lover can make: spoiling the twist. Twists have become such an essential part of our pop culture language that they’re more expected than not, and usually come in the form of a shocking death or a rote reveal. But there’s something to be said for the twist so monumental, so disruptive that it retroactively transforms the entire movie.

One such twist happens two-thirds of the way through Serenity, Steven Knight’s neo-noir thriller starring Matthew McConaughey as a rugged fishing boat captain whose dark, tortured past comes back to haunt him in the form of his sultry ex-wife Karen (Anne Hathaway). The sexy narrative that follows is pretty standard noir melodrama stuff: Karen begs McConaughey’s absurdly named Baker Dill to kill her abusive husband (Jason Clarke), whose drunken rages not only endanger her, but her and Baker’s young son. Though he at first refuses, bent on his obsession with catching a giant tuna that he hilariously nicknames “Justice,” Baker relents after he begins to experience strange visions that convince him that he is telepathically linked to his son.
