Maybe when we first heard about the possibility of a third Bill & Ted, it sounded like an outlandish idea. As Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves have continued to offer little updates, however — and as more and more ’80s and ’90s properties have found their way to the big screen — it’s started to seem more and more plausible. Red, the 2010 film that starred Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, and John Malkovich as aging black-ops agents, seemed like the sort of film that might just fade away. Directed by Robert Schewntke, who went on to direct R.I.P.D., the movie was neither bad nor particularly compelling — if it lived up to the promise of its cast and concept, it did so only somewhat.
But a sequel is still happening, and today Summit Entertainment sent out a press release announcing the return of major cast members for Red 2, with the addition of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-Hun Lee (G.I. Joe: Retaliation). Read More »
Screenwriters? Check. Release date? Check. Now Red 2, the sequel to the 2010 comic book adaptation starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren has an all-important director as well. Dean Parisot, the director of Galaxy Quest and Fun With Dick and Jane, will helm the sequel which is expected to return all four of those stars. Writers Jon and Erich Hoeber were hired to write the script last January and Summit announced August 2, 2013 as the film’s release date. It’ll be Parisot’s job to bring those two things together.
