After three movies set in the South – Hustle and Flow, Black Snake Moan and the upcoming FootlooseCraig Brewer is going somewhere even hotter for his next film. He’s going into the jungle. At least that’s the hope as he’s just signed a deal with Warner Bros. to write and direct a new take on the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs story Tarzan. Brewer’s take, though, isn’t just a one-shot deal, he has an idea that would be a three-story arc. Read More »

New Images: The ‘Footloose’ Remake

That Footloose remake that no one asked for and everyone keeps forgetting about (okay, maybe that’s just me) is still moving forward, and we have new images to prove it. The updated version stars relative unknown Kenny Wormald as protagonist Ren McCormack and two-time Dancing with the Stars winner Julianne Hough as love interest Ariel Moore — the parts originally played by Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer.

The new photos show, among other things, Hough looking cute in cutoffs, Wormald looking like a slick city boy, and Dennis Quaid and Andie MacDowell as Ariel’s parents. Check ’em out after the jump.

First Look: The ‘Footloose’ Remake

I know: you’re dying to see images of the Footloose remake, which is shooting now with a cast that includes Kenny Wormald and Julianne Hough in the roles originated by Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer. See a larger version after the break.   Read More »

Footloose Remake Cast Set

footloose-remake-cast

Our long national nightmare is over! The Footloose remake finally has a cast. Now I can rest easy tonight. Mostly because no one I care too much about is in the movie, which Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow, Black Snake Moan) is still directing. OK, there’s Dennis Quaid, playing John Lithgow’s role, but he’s been in worse. The rest of the names, each of which is sure to thrill you in different ways, after the break. Read More »

Because I know that casting news on the delayed remake of Footloose is what you’re all more hungry for than anything else, here’s the only casting note that matters this week: Thomas Dekker (Heroes, Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, Kaboom, A Nightmare on Elm Street) is apparently the latest top candidate to play ‘Two Degrees of Kevin Bacon,’ as, if cast, he’d step into the shoes of Bacon’s classic character from the original film.

Zac Efron and Chace Crawford have both been linked to the film, but in the last few months they’ve passed, and the directorial baton has been handed from Kenny Ortega to Craig Brewer. This isn’t hard and fast casting, though, so there’s still a chance  (There’s also an open casting call for guys 18 and up to play high schoolers.) [LAT]

After the break, better news, because it doesn’t involve the Footloose remake. Read More »

Early this week, This Is It director Kenny Ortega bailed on Paramount’s remake of Footloose. Seems like a great idea, even if the Michael Jackson movie doesn’t become the Dark Knight-sized hit that some have predicted. And yeah, Footloose? A remake? Who needs it? Well, Paramount still seems to, and their shortlist of directors is evidently topped by an unlikely name: Craig Brewer. Read More »
