Just last month, a rumor suddenly surfaced claiming that Eddie Murphy was working on a sequel to his hit 1988 comedy Coming to America, arguably the last great comedy he made before stumbling into the realm of constant mediocrity. Since the news came from a seemingly hacked, then non-existent Twitter account and TMZ was the only outlet that affirmed existence of a sequel, plenty of fans were skeptical. However, against all odds, a Coming to America sequel is truly in development.

There’s plenty of people out there who will be dressed up in costumes tonight for Halloween, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find a restaurant that dressed up for the holiday. However, residents of Chicago won’t have such a difficult time finding out.
Anyone who has seen the Eddie Murphy comedy Coming to America knows that the restaurant McDowell’s, which is totally not a ripoff of McDonald’s at all, plays a key part in the movie. And now the restaurant is real (kinda). The hot dog joint known as The Wiener’s Circle (famous for having employees verbally harass each other and the customers late at night) has been given a makeover for the weekend to look like and operate as a McDowell’s franchise. Los Angeles residents are incredibly spoiled when it comes to pop culture art events. Most of that is because Jensen Karp and Katie Cromwell opened not one but two Gallery 1988 locations in the City of Angels. Every few weeks, a new art exhibit goes on the walls celebrating either an artist or subject, usually with a pop culture theme. Lost, Breaking Bad, Edgar Wright, Judd Apatow, the list of awesome Gallery 1988 subjects goes on and on. If you don’t live in Los Angeles, usually you can’t experience these for yourself.
That’s why, in 2011, Cromwell and Karp released a beautiful coffee table book called Crazy 4 Cult, based on the Gallery’s signature exhibit. Next week, they’re releasing the sequel, Crazy 4 Cult 2, and we got Karp to exclusively explain some of his favorite images in the book.
