Even though a triangle is one of the strongest geometric shapes, a love triangle makes things far less stable. It certainly doesn’t help matters any in Terry George‘s new film The Promise.
A young woman named Ana (Charlotte Le Bon of The Walk) strikes up a close relationship with a medical students (Oscar Isaac) while she’s still in a relationship with an American photojournalist (Christian Bale), all while war breaks out around them in the middle of the Ottoman Empire. It makes for some complicated romantic drama, but it may not turn out to be as important as helping the people around them get to safety in the middle of the turmoil surrounding them.

Robert Zemeckis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are telling their own version of the event that made front-page news in the 1970s, when Philippe Petit and a team of conspirators strung a wire between the World Trade Center towers in New York City so that Petit could perform a high-wire walk hundreds of feet above ground. The story has all the tension and planning of a heist, and the daredevil spectacle of the most insane physical feats, but the real idea underlying Petit’s act was artistic.
Sure, there’s a documentary about the event — Man on Wire, which is a great film, as a matter of fact — but The Walk aims to use effects wizardry and IMAX scale to put audiences right up on the wire with Petit. The first full trailer is now available; check out this new The Walk trailer below. Read More »
Sony Pictures Entertainment has released the first official photo from Robert Zemeckis‘ Flight follow-up The Walk, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as daredevil Philippe Petit. As you probably know, Petit (with the help of a few conspirators) strung a wire between the twin towers of the World Trade Center in 1974, allowing him to do a 45-minute high-wire performance show above the streets of Manhattan. The Walk is based on Petit’s 2002 book To Reach the Clouds: My High Wire Walk Between the Twin Towers which was also chronicled in the 2008 documentary Man on Wire, and now Zemeckis is crafting a dramatized take on the “the artistic crime of the century.” Check out the first official imafes from The Walk, below.

Seven years after Ratatouille declared that “anyone can cook,” French chefs in the movies are still being awfully snobby about who gets control of the kitchen. The new The Hundred-Foot Journey trailer shows Helen Mirren as Madame Mallory, a Michelin-starred chef in the south of France who faces an unexpected challenge when an Indian family opens their own eatery right across the street from hers.
Initially, the two competitors seem ready to go to war with each other, Neighbors-style. But Mallory is eventually won over by talented young Hassan (Manish Dayal), and takes him under her wing. Watch the trailer after the jump.
