I’d like to make this the ‘leading lady’ edition of Casting Bits, but I don’t think Caleb Landry Jones would like that very much. (Jason Segel would probably be OK with it.) Still, after the break you’ll find that two films have chosen their lead actresses, while Jones joins Jordan. Ahem. To wit:

  • Alexandra Maria Lara (above) takes the (female) lead in Ron Howard’s racing movie Rush,
  • Cody Horn will be the leading lady in Soderbergh’s Magic Mike,
  • Caleb Landry Jones, aka the First Class version of Banshee, joins Neil Jordan’s Byzantium,
  • and, as a final note, Jason Segel appears to be confirmed for Judd Apatow’s This is Forty.

Yet another new international trailer for Matthew Vaughn‘s X-Men: First Class has dropped, and while it looks a lot like all the other trailers we’ve seen, I can’t argue that it doesn’t look good. There’s also a tiny bit of new footage within. Watch it after the jump.

A couple weeks ago a great international trailer for X-Men: First Class appeared, with dialogue dubbed in Russian. Now there is a Japanese cut of the trailer — same thing, but with original English dialogue. If the dubbing put you off before there’s no reason not to take a look now. While some of the marketing for the film has been a little off the mark, the two core trailers — this one and the primary US one — have been fantastic and full of promise. So catch up now by hitting the jump. Read More »

Total Film has a new cover story on X-Men: First Class, and the magazine has created a bonus for those who purchase: a series of three vintage-style covers that emulate the classic styles of mags such as Life and Esquire. They’re great ways to get across the swinging ’60s vibe of First Class. And damn, but Michael Fassbender’s cover makes him look like a pretty ideal possible James Bond successor.

There’s a gallery with the covers right after the break, and then a rundown of quite a few new plot details that have broken over the past couple days as various people involved in the film have talked to the press. Consider those details all mildly spoilerish at least; if you want to be surprised by the film just check out the great cover gallery and move on. Read More »

I don’t know about you, but when I saw the first trailer for Matthew Vaughn‘s X-Men: First Class, I went from being cautiously optimistic to unabashedly optimistic. It looked like everything I’d want from an X-Men film: action, character-driven drama, an excellent cast and plenty of meaningful nods at storylines familiar to any Marvel fan. Now a Russian trailer with new footage has been released, and I’m feeling even more confident in my high hopes for the film. Check it out after the jump.

Nicholas Hoult Cast as Beast in X-Men: First Class

Nicholas Hoult has been cast as Dr. Henry Philip “Hank” McCoy (aka Beast) in Matthew Vaughn‘s X-Men: First Class.

It had been previously reported that Benjamin Walker (star of the Public Theater’s “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson”) had been cast in the role. Then last week we heard that the studio was worried about Walker’s age. You see, Walker is only a few years younger than James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, who are supposed to be his elders in the film. Fox decided to find a younger actor to play Beast. Hoult is 20 years old (turning 21 later this year). McAvoy is 31, while Fassbender is 33.
