Disney Movie Encanto

The next movie we get from Walt Disney Animation Studios is Raya and the Last Dragon. Originally slated for release in November, the coronavirus pandemic forced a schedule change that pushed it back to March 2021. We haven’t even seen a trailer for this movie yet, but we’re already getting details on the original animated movie that will come after that.

That movie is currently going by the title Encanto and it comes from Zootopia directing duo Byron Howard and Jared Bush and co-writer/co-director Charise Castro Smith. The film will not only follow in the footsteps of Moana and Raya and the Last Dragon by following a woman of color in the lead, but it will have some traditional Disney magic at the center of it. ZOOTOPIA 2 - Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde (1)

We often talk about how Walt Disney Animation Studios surprises us. No one expected Frozen to be the monster hit and cultural phenomenon that it became, and I don’t think anyone thought Zootopia would become one of the highest grossing films of 2016. But what might surprise you is that Zootopia is now the second biggest original movie ever released.

Zootopia Documentary

Disney’s Zootopia is already one of the most successful films of the year. The film has raked in over $786 million worldwide and it’s one of the best reviewed films of the year with a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. If you haven’t gone to see it yet, you’re missing out on one of Disney’s best animated films. Personally, I even think it’s better than Frozen, Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph and Big Hero 6.

If you’ve already seen Zootopia, then you might want to check out a fantastic 45-minute documentary that takes you behind the scenes, showing how the movie evolved during the two years of production that a team from Fusion spent at Walt Disney Animation studios. It’s a thorough and fascinating look at how an animated movie is made and how Zootopia changed during that process.

Zootopia - Clawhauser

Unlike their Star Wars or Marvel movies, Disney’s animated features don’t fit into a single shared universe. They do, however, very often reference each other, via sneaky little Easter eggs. Even their latest, Zootopia, gets in on the fun, despite taking place in a universe where human beings don’t actually exist. We told you about one of Zootopia‘s many Easter eggs back before the film even hit theaters, and now that it’s actually out, several more have been discovered. Below, check out some of the Zootopia Easter eggs you might have missed.  Read More »

Zootopia - Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps (2)

Earlier this week we told you how Zootopia was going to be a different movie, originally following Jason Bateman’s character Nick Wilde and featuring an more-in-your-face message. Well you might be surprised that the original idea for Zootopia was a James Bond parody featuring talking animals. How the that idea evolve into whats now on the screen?
