Eli Roth‘s Borderlands cast continues to expand.
Ariana Greenblatt, who played Young Gamora in Avengers: Infinity War, is the latest performer to join Roth’s film adaptation of the action-heavy, sci-fi video game. She’ll play a character named Tiny Tina, a dangerous 13-year-old who is hellbent on revenge.

Eli Roth now has a House with a Clock in Its Walls reunion ready for his take on Borderlands, because Jack Black is joining the previously-announced Cate Blanchett for the video game adaptation. Black will play wisecracking robot Claptrap in the film, and honestly, getting Jack Black to play a sarcastic robot is pretty good casting, no matter how you feel about this movie. The cast also includes Kevin Hart and Jamie Lee Curtis, with Craig Mazin handling the script.

With very, very few exceptions, film adaptations of video games have primarily operated somewhere in the “disappointing” to “embarrassing failure” range. But nobody tell Hostel and Cabin Fever director Eli Roth about that, because he’s putting together a cast for his film version of the bestselling video game Borderlands that appears to be punching way above its weight class. Horror film icon Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween, Knives Out) is the latest addition to this hyper-talented cast, which also includes Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart. What a trio! Read More »
I wonder if anyone sat around playing the video game Borderlands when it debuted in 2009 and thought to themselves, “Man, the guy who directed Hostel should turn this into a movie that stars Galadriel from The Lord of the Rings and that funny guy from those Seltzer/Friedberg spoof films. And it’d be great if it was written by the person who wrote Superhero Movie.” If you recall ever meeting such a dorm room Nostradamus, it might be smart to call him up and ask for suggestions for lotto numbers or stock market tips.
It’s true: Kevin Hart, who appeared in Scary Movie 3 & 4, Epic Movie, Superhero Movie, and Extreme Movie before becoming one of the most famous stand-up comedians in the world, will star in a Borderlands movie alongside Cate Blanchett that will be written by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and directed by Eli Roth. And it seems as if Hart will be stretching into unfamiliar territory as an actor with this role. Read More »
Eli Roth‘s Borderlands movie just landed a surprising cast member: Cate Blanchett. Blanchett will play Lilith, one of the four playable characters in the original Borderlands game who has remained a supporting character in the franchise ever since. In the mythology of the game, Lilith is “from the planet Dionysus and is one of six Sirens, a group of women with unbelievable powers.” Blanchett and Roth previously worked together on The House with a Clock in Its Walls.

Borderlands, the video game series that kicked-off in 2009, is headed to the big screen. Eli Roth is set to helm the Borderlands movie for Lionsgate, with a script by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin. The original game followed a group of “Vault Hunters” looking for an alien vault on the planet of Pandora (no, not the one from Avatar).

As we hope that some upcoming video game movies will break the mold of underwhelming adaptations that has defined video game films since the 90s, one more has been tossed on to the growing pile of forthcoming video game-based projects.
Today, Lionsgate has announced that they’re developing a Borderlands movie. It’s based on the RPG/first-person shooter combo game that follows a group of stranded colonists on an alien planet that has been left for dead, and is slowly moving closer to the sun, sparking the rise of horrifying creatures to wreak havoc on those left behind.
