McConaughey stars in White Boy Rick, a crime thriller by French director Yann Demange that adapts the wild true story of the Chicago teenager who would go on to be the youngest FBI informant and drug kingpin in history. The first White Boy Rick trailer, which features McConaughey as the titular Ricky Wershe Jr.’s father, gives us our first look at this stranger-than-fiction drama.

Wildling is Fritz Böhm’s first feature film, and it’s such an assured debut, darkly mystical and elegant. This nighttime fairy tale tells the story of Anna (Bel Powley), a young woman who’s spent much of her life locked in a room like Rapunzel, with only “Daddy” (Lord of the Rings’ Brad Dourif, in an equally untrustworthy role) as company.
Daddy treats Anna with tenderness, warning her against “the wildling” that stalks the woods surrounding their remote fairy tale tower. He seems loving and protective – but he’s also keeping Anna in seclusion. We watch her grow from toddlerhood to young womanhood in the confines of the same tiny room – and all the while we keep seeing Daddy inject a mysterious substance into Anna’s tummy. These opening scenes are disorienting, diving right into the narrative instead of offering any tidy context, immediately eliciting intrigue and perplexity from the audience. The context comes later, as Wildling’s story grows clearer but never less strange. Read More »

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is already the #1 highest grossing film on the domestic box office charts. And with a release in China this weekend, Disney and Lucasfilm are certainly hoping it has the legs to take the top spot on the international box office charts as well. In the meantime, fans are already eagerly anticipating Star Wars: Episode VIII, to continue the story that began in The Force Awakens. Little is known about the film as of now, but a new rumor has named another potential star for the sequel.
While we previously heard that Beyond the Lights and Jupiter Ascending star Gugu Mbatha-Raw had landed a pivotal role in Episode 8, a new rumor pegs Bel Powley, the breakout star of the Sundance selected Diary of a Teenage Girl, as being in the running for the same role. Read More »
After making a splash at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, the indie sensation The Diary of a Teenage Girl is coming to theaters next month. The film may not have made our list of the Best of Sundance 2015, but it’s certainly one of those indies worth seeking out this summer.
Now a new trailer from across the pond has surfaced, showcasing a tale of sexual exploration and coming-of-age, driven stupendously by a breakthrough performance from Bel Powley. And coming through with outstanding supporting performances are Alexander Skarsgard and Kristen Wiig too. Watch The Diary of a Teenage Girl UK trailer below! Read More »

Coming-of-age indie narratives are a Sundance staple each year, and this year one of the most buzzed-about was Marielle Heller‘s The Diary of a Teenage Girl. Based on the novel by Phoebe Gloeckner, it stars Bel Powley as Minnie, a teenager growing up in 1970s San Francisco.
Minnie loses her virginity to a much older man (Alexander Skårsgard) who also happens to be dating her mom (Kristen Wiig), and her life only gets crazier and more complicated from there. Check out the first Diary of a Teenage Girl trailer after the jump. Read More »
