The narrative connects a series of wild gags unleashed on the clueless public, taking the road trip on some crazy twists and turns, from Eric André being sexually assaulted by a gorilla to Lil Rel Howery getting stuck in the bottom half of a port-a-potty. Bad Trip

Welcome to The Quarantine Stream, a new series where the /Film team shares what they’ve been watching while social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.)

The Movie: Bad Trip

Where You Can Stream It: Netflix

The Pitch: From one of the guys that brought you Jackass and Bad Grandpa, this hidden camera comedy follows best friends Chris and Bud (Eric André and Lil Rey Howery) as they go on a cross-country road trip to pursue one of their high school sweethearts. Meanwhile, Tiffany Haddish is in hot pursuit as Bud’s escaped convict sister, who is pissed that her hot pink car has been taken without her permission. But this isn’t just your average buddy road trip comedy. Along the way, the narrative includes inventive pranks on real, unsuspecting people, pulling its real-life audience into the mayhem.

Why It’s Essential Viewing: Sacha Baron Cohen has perfected the hidden camera comedy that pulls real people into insane situations with cringeworthy results in the Borat film franchise. However, Jackass and Bad Grandpa producer Jeff Tremaine and director Kitao Sakurai get a little more wild and crazy with their stunts in the narrative-driven prank movie Bad Trip. That’s not the surprising part though. What will really catch you off guard is that no matter how raunchy and inappropriate Bad Trip gets, it’s full of kindhearted, helpful people willing to lend a hand in some truly shocking and awkward scenarios. Eric André (The Eric André Show, Man Seeking Woman) rarely shies away from comedic extremes in his work, and it appears that streak will continue in Bad Trip, the new prank movie which debuts on Netflix later this month.

The streamer has released a new trailer for the film that showcases some pranks we’ve seen in previous marketing materials, but also reveals a new bit involving André and co-star Lil Rel Howery as the two – well, there’s no way to put this delicately – get their dicks stuck in a Chinese finger trap and wander onto a golf course. bad trip netflix release date

Bad Trip, a movie I remember seeing trailers for in theaters over a year ago, is finally being released – on Netflix. The hidden camera comedy featuring Eric André, Lil Rel Howery, and Tiffany Haddish, was once slated to arrive in theaters in 2019. Then it got pushed to 2020. And then, of course, the pandemic got in the way. At one point, the film dropped onto Amazon Prime Video – even though it wasn’t supposed to be there. It was promptly pulled from that service, and now it’s officially headed to Netflix next month.

As younger viewers continue to spend more time watching YouTube than going to the movies, here’s a depressing thought: what if the movies begin to evolve to seem more like YouTube videos? A new film called Bad Trip is coming out this fall and is seemingly trying out that tactic. Eric Andre, Lil Rel Howery, and Tiffany Haddish star in a film that blends a traditional narrative with a prank format, in which an overarching story unfolds and real people are fooled along the way.
